Those glasses held up fairly well when you consider the horrendous trauma Holly and the 2 thrown from the plane sustained. Crushed chest, large lacerations, multiple fractures of arms & legs, skull fracture and brain mostly removed by the impact is a very violent set of injuries.

20-800 vision means you have to be 20 feet away to see things people with normal eyes can see at 800 feet away. Apparently Buddy Holly was close to being legally blind, so the lenses in those famous specs had to have been as thick as the glass in the bottom of a Coke bottle.
