If you still want to use VCRs (I still have a soft spot for these units), try to find a Toshiba VCR model W625CF or W627 (a picture of one is on one of my videos). Get one of those (on ebay), and tape salad is off the menu for good!
+Shereen Esser besides, my grandma's Sony vcr stopped working after I saw a piece come out of the machine slot. it is the rewinder, and it cannot rewind tapes anymore!
If you don't record much, you can cut the bad film out, and scotch tape it together. You would have to make sure it's not cricked or there will be jumpy/colorful picture.
Your VCR probably reads the tapes by opening the top of the cassette and partially pulling out the tape and the tape gets stuck in the axles when you were ejecting the cassette. I had a problem one time where MY VCR was eating my tape, too. I've never had problems like that before.
Symphonic made this garbage VCR/DVD combo that were Funai crap. Back then, Symphonic made better record players from the 1950’s and 1960’s. Symphonic was “The Symbol of Superiority”, which is now “the Symbol of Junk”.
i fixed mine sony dvd/vcr got 2 issue are dvd drive tray wont open then i replaced with fresh new drive belt now is works then vcr has playback issue first time becuase the tape and spin for rewind mode something stuck i has took that tape out and tight the ribbons before insert the vcr then hit forward they runs very fast !!! then done hit rewinds cuz make sure belt running smooth so now my vhs/dvd is back to normal whew !!! this unit has low hour life becuase i work at comprenew
I had a 2004 model Emerson vcr/ DVD recorder combo, and I was 8 when my dad got it from EZ pawn in Feb 2012, and it worked great, until I put stickers on it and when you eject the tape, it makes a loud noise, then turns off, when you turn it back on, it says eject T. then, it started eating my tapes. then I gave it to my repair neighbor in June 2012, got it to work again, then the picture looked unfixable. the DVD side worked the whole time. got rid of it in December 2013, the day before 2014.
It is because the stickiness got on the tape sensor, and it makes that loud rattling noise, then turns off, then it displays the tape still being in there which it isn't.
And also the remote control that came with it unfortunately, in may i think, the coils or whetever you wanna call them in the battery thing the gripper for them broke, making the batteries fall out. That was a little bit before i gave it to my neighbor to fix it.
So basically the stickers on my emerson Vcr dvd recorder combo basically caused the led sensor in the vcr to be interuppted with no tape in it and shut off. But then by may 2012 it started eating my tapes sometimes because of that it was affecting the mode encoder switch. It was a nice combo made by funai that i could've taken better care of. I wasn't even 9 when i got it with 4 vhs tapes on Feb 14 2012 Valentine's day that year. Major League 1989 paramount vhs original blue text stickerlabel/end label print 1989 vhs of honey i shrunk the kids i ended up destroying the slipcover for no reason but i still have the tape as the reels are yellow. 2 Rocky and Bullwinkle tapes 1 being Banana Formula And the other being La Grande Moose Volume 5.
Went I Have a Pansonic DVD/VCR/TV Combo, It's Not Play My VHS Tapes. Because It Not Picturing Because It's Blury, The Sound Is Glitching, Tries To Turn The VCR/DVD Video Combo Off, Tries To Eating My Tapes And Eject The VCR On My Pansonic VCR/DVD/TV Combo.
i have a symphonic tv with built in vhs and its a piece of shit eats tape and the tuner is busted the only thing it good for is the video in if ofcourse you dont mind the 10000000db humming
The cheaper units, mainly Funai-made units, will lack the LCD display.
So True. My VHS DVD combo started eating tapes after four months, but my 15 year old VCR works perfectly.
Suposedly, the fix for eating tape is easy, so I wish you the best.

@WinVistaUser2 I have another VCR now and it works very good, Panasonic omnivision, great quality and fast rewind
Oh the joys of dealing with tape media. I remember when this happened with one or two VCRs when I was a kid.
@genuinescorruption I have been looking for a panasonic omnivision
I once saw a warning on someone's VCR that said: DOES NOT REWIND - WILL EAT TAPE!
Brian Draney i did see a video of someone putting a tape in it and pressed rewind 2 times, and it ate it.
+Shereen Esser besides, my grandma's Sony vcr stopped working after I saw a piece come out of the machine slot. it is the rewinder, and it cannot rewind tapes anymore!
It can but it crinkles up the filmstrip when you reverse search. I HATE THAT SO MUCH!!!!

That sucks. We've gotten rid of all our VCRs.
i fixed mine sony dvd/vcr got 2 issue are dvd drive tray wont open then i replaced with fresh new drive belt now is works then vcr has playback issue first time becuase the tape and spin for rewind mode something stuck i has took that tape out and tight the ribbons before insert the vcr then hit forward they runs very fast !!! then done hit rewinds cuz make sure belt running smooth so now my vhs/dvd is back to normal whew !!! this unit has low hour life becuase i work at comprenew

I have it in storage but hasn’t been set up since like 2010
@@patricknedz Okay. It's the mode select switch that's at fault. I've fixed many of these.

The VCR got hungrey and decided to have a snack.

I meant 5 seconds after you eject it.
