Fernandinho is one of the few DMs that played behind two creative midfielders (KDB x Silva) and had to do all the dirty work alone, and did it perfectly. And not only could he handle the defensive work, he was elite enough in possession to work in a Pep team. It's taken Rodri two seasons and a much better defence in front of him to look more settled. Fernandinho was bossing it pre Pep as well. Guys like Essien and Vieira weren't just DMs. As pure DMs go, he's right up there and Redknapp may actually have a point for once 😂

So, when United signed Ronaldo were you guys buzzing to see him press from the front and drop deep to link up the play?
He has scored 15 goals for a team who have only started creating chances 2 weeks ago.
Last season Maguire had a decent season and Shaw had the best season of his life. This season United have been shipping goals like its nobody's business.

How many times did we have to go behind to get into the game? How many times did we have to rely on late goals? How inconsistent a season did Chelsea and Liverpool have? How many times did we bottle games we should've won?
Yes there were some brilliant performances, brilliant games, brilliant results but if you look at the season as a whole, we were very inconsistent and we got away with a lot of mediocre performance, everyone thought Ole was gonna get the sack in November that's how bad it was. We were literally had to rely on individual moments of brilliance to win games instead of having tactics and a game-plan. Moments FC, Counter Attack FC, it wasn't sustainable especially if we wanted to challenge for the league. It was the same at the start of the season but the big difference was that other times made big improvements and fans were back.

The Centurions argument is weird because any of those teams can have a good PL season if they were just focusing on the PL. Game management is required when you want to win multiple things. I’d rather win the league by 2 points and win the Champions League than win by 20 points and not win the Champions League.

When ppl say that Ronaldo is needed to link the play, create attacks, create chances etc., he just isn't that type of player anymore. He's a strict no.9 now so ideally it comes down to the manager when to play or not play him depending on the opposition which is easier said than done cause of his personality. It makes sense at times when ppl say he 'hurts the balance of the team' cause there is some truth in it considering his own value he believes he can offer every game but his goals, particularly in UCL, have been crucial and is the reason why they're still in it. But essentially to say United shouldn't have signed him would mean united would get on fine or even do better without him which is hard to believe cause they've had poor performances without him as well.

    • @hamzah1325

He links the play alot, you don't even need to watch full matches. You can watch highlights to see him, watch Brighton as an example, backheel to Sancho and it was shot at the keeper. Fernandinho was not a beneficiary of the City team. He is THE reason the team worked. KDB and Silva were running all over the pitch as attacking players, and he’s the only reason it worked. There’s clearly a lack of ball knowledge here. He may not be the best ever, but he deserves more respect than this.

overlooked agreed however still not in this conversation.... There's only been one real team challenging them in those 2 seasons (City) and the drop off the season after the PL win was very poor. If anything this just backs up the other teams achievements. City got 100 with the Liverpool being there, Chelsea and United both had their accomplishments in much more competitive prem eras and Arsenal are still the only unbeaten team. You're also looking over 2 separate seasons. If Liverpool had done a double in that time then i think you may put them in the conversation but then you have to look at the other domestic trophies those other teams were winning in those seasons.

Arsenal should without a doubt finish above United (logically), they have an easier schedule, a defined play style and first 11, no problems in the team etc.

They shouldn't have and they should've at the same time, without him they would not be in CL would be in Europa and would be around 14th-15th place in Prem but they can't rely on a 37yr old and need to move forward. The thing is Manchester United at this point in time is a toxic club, there are players in that team that are mid table quality and are still there somehow. Put it like this. Ronaldo is not THE problem. He definitely is not the solution to THE problem. Ronaldo brings a problem himself that he is very ineffective when he is not providing the goals. Whether it is his lack of goal scoring ability OR the team does not service him effectively. United have to balance whether its worth having Ronaldo on the field on the basis that he is guaranteed to provide a goal that match, because if he doesn't, he doesn't add much to the side. Also, if you going to play Ronaldo, you MUST play another striker that is going to compliment him, thus make him more effective.

Ronaldo is not in his prime. Everyone knows this. But to say a player has to be consistently and reignite his team is heavy weights on arguably now weaker shoulders. Ronaldo being purchased by united was to win things, Ronaldo will try but he won't always succeed, his age will incessantly be a defect to the contribution to United. But we can't call his presence detrimental, to people saying he's destroying the club, are you saying he isn't having the initially perceived effect, or are you simply attacking him due to his presence in goals recently. Ronaldo hasn't had an immense impact, this is where I think people have become so easy to revert to previous predicaments, that ronaldo was meant to have this instant impact. It's absent, but this doesn't him prove detrimental, merely showing he isn't what we expected and he hasn't delivered to everyones expectations. Personally, I think this argument and the sides you choose, or dictated through your INITIAL thoughts of ronaldo and how he's lived up to those expectations. The man IS 36
