You fall a lot while learning of course (although learning with a balance bike instead of training wheels seems to reduce that a lot), but I don't think I've fallen more than a handful of times in my adult life. I can think of 4 times, two involving snow or ice, one my son on his bike falling over right in front of me, and one time with tram rails. And none of them quite as ridiculous as these. I suspect most of these people were drunk.
@@MartijnVos a few years back i fell 6 times on 1 evening. I was completely hammered and had to bike about 2km to get home. On the way home i fell 6 times, the last one resulting in a bent wheel. So the last couple hundred meters i had to walk with my bike on my neck. My friends had a lot of fun though, laughing their asses of as i struggled to get up again with my legs wrapped around the frame of the bike 😂

Sweet old memories. Riding my bicycle to school everyday in good or bad weather. In the winters when we still had ice on the canals we always took the alternative road over the ice. Drunk biking after a party. Biking in the dirt and jumping and so many many crashes. Lovely times. *Remember a thing that was not so nice. Hitting your jewels on the upper bar on a gentlemans bike. I can still feel that.
1:29 that’s a position I found myself in when my front tire hit the edge of a thick twig that flipped between my spokes and suddenly blocked the wheel completely. I dove head first over the steering wheel and hit the pavement with my face. Luckily I only broke off one of my front teeth and had some scrapes. When I looked back my bike was upside down, standing on the saddle and steering wheel. How did I manage that!? Luckily social media didn’t exist back then or I would have been in one of these videos 😂
In Zeeland we have a game when we bike home after drinking. It's called "strukenduken" and you try to push the friend next to you, so he'll dive in the green borders along a cyclepath. Sometimes we both crash 😅

Once we biked to the beach with a group of friends, and while laying on the beach I got this weird feeling, like a premonition, that something was going to happen, so out of the blue I said to one of my friends; I have a feeling that I'm going to fall somewhere. He laughed about it but on the way home our bicycle handlebars got entangled and we both fell. My hands and knees were abrased, completely covered with blood, and that's when he took me home to his mom to let her taking care off my wounds. Well, everything turned out well, because eventually we ended up marrying each other and kept biking a lot afterwards without accidents 🤣
So glad that I grew up in the Netherlands. All kind of stunts on the bicycle as a kid. Sky is the limit. Those poor kids abroad with their ridiculous helmets on. As someone else mentioned, if you haven't fallen at least once with your bike growing up, you're likely not Dutch. Three noteworthy ones I remember (wall of text incoming): 1. (~14 y.o.) It was freezing and they hadn't sprinkled salt yet. I was on my way to school and was approaching a roundabout, and since I already saw some younger kids laughing and pointing and then some people about twenty meters in front of me fall, I know it was very slippery on the roundabout. So I tried turning very carefully, but of course I fell as well, and slid five meters forward on the ground, as did basically everyone.. Cycling on ice is doable, as long as you go straight ahead, but as soon as you make the slightest turn, like I had to on a roundabout, it's hard not to fall. (PS: The roundabout was nearby a police station, and when one of the police cars drove out of their driveway, they too were drifting a bit. It was THAT slippery that day. 😅) 2. (~18 y.o.) Intro party for college. We went to some local bars on our bikes, with some third years as 'supervisors'. Each of us were wearing orange t-shirts (this is important later). At the bar, everyone received two beers from the get-go, but before I could finish one (I had never drank alcohol before at that point), I already received two new ones and had three, so I started drinking faster. Fast forward to 01:30 at night, I thought a lot of the other new students were still there, since I saw a lot of orange t-shirts, but apparently that was a different school having their introduction party, and everyone had already left!.. 😅 Luckily I knew the general direction of where we came from, and started cycling that way. We would be sleeping in a big hall of the gymnasium. Although I remembered the general direction to that gymnasium hall, I kinda got lost in the dark. So while I was cycling, drunk and with one hand, I was using my other hand to call a friend who was already there. I basically said something along the lines of: "I should be close I think, but I'm not sure. Oh wait, I already see it. I'll ...". And that was the last my friend heard before I fell, haha. Apparently there were some curbs splitting the car and cycle portions on a roundabout I was just crossing (whoever came up with that idea, I want to punch), which I hadn't seen in the dark. So I fell hard. Luckily, due to the alcohol, I felt no pain whatsoever. So I picked up my phone and bike, and continued to the hall around the corner. When I entered, the supervisor teachers stared at me, since apparently my entire face was bloody; my knee was bloody; and I lost a tooth.. And the next day (after the hangover and throwing up), the steering wheel of my bike was apparently almost vertical instead of horizontal compared to the wheel, so I'm not even sure how I managed to cycle those last few meters, rofl. Great first drinking experience.. 😉 3. (~13 y.o.) I'm not sure how I fell anymore, but I was again calling while cycling. This time with an old Nokia phone. The battery fall out and the Nokia itself was run over by a huge truck. Yet when I picked them up, it barely had a scratch and was working fine. Old Nokia mobile phones really were built different, haha.
4:44 this video is legendary. It's 2 boys from the south filming a frozen road that hasn't been treated with de-icing salt. They caught about 5 accidents in 10 mins time or so.

My worst fall to date wasn't even that bad all things considered. I was off-road on my mountain-bike, I was completely new to it and I went on a track a little more challenging I could handle and used the wrong break while going downward, and flipped over forward downhill. But the dirt was really soft so it broke my fall. My brother however when we were younger, lets say it was around age 10, he tried cycling with no hands and that went all fine untill we came to a tunnel. downhill he got alot of speed and right when the angle became straight again his steering wheel snapped sideways and he ran into the wall really hard, had to get stitches on his chin, u can still see a small scar from it but only if you look for it.
I once found a BMX at a garbage bin, it seemed fine after inspecting it, i drove around on it a little, was all fun and games, then i went down hill real fast in my neighborhood realized the BMX was put at the garbage bins because the breaks were toast, i think i slammed into a wall going 20km/h, it didn't really hurt physically just mentally lmao. A lot of years later i was showing off going down hill with no hands, everything went fine till a small pebble and my wheel lined up perfectly, it caused my wheel to rotate 90 degrees instantly and i went face first to the pavement while still going down hill, shattered my jaw, luckily tho, had a really good surgeon that put it back together.

I had a lot of these kind of accidents when i was young. Always alcohol was involved 🙂 Now I am older, wiser and more vulnerable, I stil drink alcohol but travel by bus, tram or metro.
I once faceplanted on the street because I forgot to let go of my steering wheel (I was not sober) and the side of my head landed on the ground first. I could feel my brains move lol! I went to sleep home alone right after that which probably wasn't that smart. But I was fine just scraped my cheekbone on the asphalt. And a headache

I fell off my bike plenty of times when I i was younger and it was fine. I'm in my late 30's now and over the course of 2024 I've had to make an emergency stop on my elektric bike 3 times. In all cases I hadn't seen a car aproaching from the right (traffic from the right usually has right of way) and had to hit the breaks at the last moment. The first time I i bruised my ribs and was sore for weeks. Second time wasn't too bad, third time scraped my legs against part of the bike and still have scars from it months later... As you get older the consequences get worse and now that a lot of people ride electric bikes at higher speeds the crashes get much worse as well...
Most jaw fractions at the Emergency and Accidents, are from cyclists. Either they have a bag with groceries hanging from the handlebars and the bag is cought between the front wheel and the frame, or they hit a car and tumble forward. In both cases the reflex is to hold on tight to the handles. So when their faces approaches the turmac, they can't shield their face, because they left their hands holding on to the bike. Its complicated.

This guy doesn't know what a paramotor is. Normally worn by paragliders, in plain words a parachute and paramotor on the back to push you along. And be aware you may not see a steep drop-off because it can perfectly blend and not see the height difference.
Half of it are people who are drunk and the other half is stupidity 😂. The normal bikes were not invented to jump off of things, for something like that you need a BMX or race bike if you want to go off road but we think that every bicycle is made to do the most insane things 😂

Either they have a bag with groceries hanging from the handlebars and the bag is cought between the front wheel and the frame, or they hit a car and tumble forward. In both cases the reflex is to hold on tight to the handles. So when their faces approaches the turmac, they can't shield their face, because they left their hands holding on to the bike. Its complicated.

Half of it are people who are drunk and the other half is stupidity 😂. The normal bikes were not invented to jump off of things, for something like that you need a BMX or race bike if you want to go off road but we think that every bicycle is made to do the most insane things 😂
