RIP John. His teachings are the clearest, most concise and well structured of any on YT. He speaks clearly, calmly with understanding. Hope he's now in the heavenly realms.
Indeed 🙏🏾
I came to comment to say how this is the most at peace I've felt in a long time watching this, he talks in a manor which invokes what he is teaching. But felt grief flush through my body reading this comment 🥹
I was actually just wondering if he was still alive, as he looks like he's nearing the end of his life in this video. I never listened to a teaching from him before, but now that I'm starting to listen to his series, I'm learning a lot. May he rest in peace 🙏
Wonderful to hear that you are learning. Thank you for the feedback.
His body may be resting in peace but his spirit is very busy indeed, spreading the good teachings...@@LondonBuddhistVideos

I'm very glad to come across an explanation of buddhism spoken by a native English speaker.
Ditto. He’s an orator .
Even to a born buddhist from Burma like me, his explanation about Buddhism clarifies a lot of things I previously did not understand.

In most places a senior students with often low intelligence, will teach new students. This is a mistake because they don't teach or answer questions well. Often getting things quite wrong and inadverently putting people off or confusing them. In this instance Richard's high intelligence enabled him to teach well and he has the depth of understanding to answer people's questions.
I will be listening to this over and over! I find this most I formative!
It took me 3 days to finish this lecture but I absolutely loved it. I watch a little bit of it as. I get ready everyday and I been learning a lot. Thank you
Wow this amazing and it was recorded 7years ago what powerful impact this has been for me. Thank you thank you thank you! Peace and love ❤️🙏🏽

Today is July 24th, 2020 & it is the auspicious occasion when Lord Buddha gave this First teaching of the 4 Noble Truth. Your video gives a very clear explanation of that teaching. Thank you 🙏

Ever Notice that the concept of a heaven to go to is a reflection of the desire to have no suffering & the craving for the end of 'life is a state of constant flux' for things to stop changing so we dont have to experience the dukkha of the unknown, learning/adapting & losing something that accompany change?
Good observation.
You got that right. I’m exhausted being a human being. More quantum leaps.
i cant thank you all enough for sharing this. its just impeccable
You are most kind. Thank you. With metta.
Suffering covers it. The subtle examples are just smaller/minor states of suffering.
'suffering, large & small'
'stress & suffering' to be more specific.

Dukha in Filipino means suffering
It isn't filipino but pali.
Pali words are adopted by buddhists of various ethnics and they write it in own language.
Pali is more like an oral language
Thai people wrote it in thai language, filipinos in tagalog and chineses in mandarin ...etc. Btw that language originated in south asia.
This is great and very clear lecture serious.
The only thing i just can’t understand about all this, is the idea of the many planes… Is there any thing pointing to its existence apart from the buddha’s?

@jeannettetuckelswaiger5071 thank you. The Dhamma is a gift to us all and Richard Jone’s was indeed an exemplary practitioner and teacher.
This is so good!
Can you just give me the right spelling for "Asamkuter" 41:41 and "Amidasanan" I really couldn't wrap my head around them.
Thanks!!
have sourced two spellings:
Asamkhata - this spelling used by Richard’s Source, Walpole Sri Rahula. lt is also used on London Buddhist Vihara website.
Asankhata - this spelling is used in the Buddhist Dictionary by Nyanariloka.
I will need some time to confirm the spelling of the second word. Thank you for your encouraging comments.

No worries. I am awaiting a reply from one of the Monks at the London Buddhist Vihara regarding the second term. Metta
Dear Emila. I have had a reply to your query from Ven. Kassapa, a resident monk at the London Buddhist Vihara. He says:
“Sorry for the delay replying. Yes it is correct, the word he uses is 'Anidassanam' and it means 'without characteristics'. This is used to describe the nature of Nibbana.

Great talk, its a shame the students were not as receptive to this mans great insight and teaching
Thank you for your feedback Oliver Auguste. I am so glad you enjoyed the talk. However, I do not know what you mean about the student’s receptivity? My recollection is that all the students present during filming were most grateful and most receptive of this dhamma transmission. Or are you referring to some of the comments perhaps? My training there was no word "happiness" was taught not to use that word. Also the word "change" nor "bliss" was used. Poor english translation makes no sense to me. Stop using those words i suggest. listen to people who don't use those english words i suggest. Like my zen teachers in japan. Also no book publishing agreement
If you want to find true enlightenment, then seek Jesus. Get a Bible and start reading the New Testament first. Find a local Baptist, Methodist or Presbyterian church to attend. This will be the start of your journey to discovering the one and only true God. The creator of this universe. This will be the best decision of your life, guaranteed.
Is there any place to get the print outs that he provided to the class?

Do some forestry
You'll know about suffering
'Life is suffering' is too heavy, hopeless sounding message for most people. When telling someone about Buddhism, i phrase it as 'life is inseparable from suffering'. Then tell them that the game is rigged from the ground-up: every living thing depends on death to perpetuate its own life - even vegans (cutting a leaf from a plant kills uh leaf; harvest a carrot & you kill the entire plant).
My unsolicited 2 cents, fwiw😉
I agree, Dukkha seems both ‘lighter’and broader in meaning.

Thank you for the feedback. I am glad you appreciate the teaching.
After watchng all lessons will i then understand buddas philosophy of life ? This covers everything?
Hello @_notabot_. The Buddha taught the same ‘material’ (the Dhamma / Dharma) on many levels over his long ministry. This beginners series is pretty comprehensive; the only content missing from Richard Jone’s beginners lectures is the prehistory of Buddhism. One day I may add that content for the context - which is illuminating. For a ‘higher’ level of thre same teachings look at the A hiddhamma playlist on this channel or others such as Bhikkhu Bodhi. There you will find much more minute, granular detail of the psychological processes of the Dhamma. Please feel free to email with any questions or to request handouts. Buddha's spiritual journey didn't cease with that particular life., "he" is still here on this planet in flesh form and the lives lived by that character, like many others, has had a significant impact not only on this world but on many more.
Also, here's an interesting read online; Buddha Has To Be Dated To 1800 B.C. by Prithviraj R.
Although "my" sources say closer to 3500 B.C.

Hello Sara K. He is referencing Buddha’s First Sermon, the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta. This means ‘turning of the wheel of dhamma”
Here is a link to an article about this sermon. It is published in Tricycle Magazine and written by the preeminent author and teacher Dr Walpole Rahula tricycle.org/magazine/the-first-sermon-of-the-buddha/
Richard also references Dr Rahula’s seminal book ‘What the Buddha Taught’.
