Using claude integration cost a lot, I had to pay $5.16 for one task (lost of prompts in a single chat had to be done to get the issue done). I am more interedted to see Cline with a free local LLM, I can pay for a great tool that helps withing the flow and the integration, but I don't like using a paid LLM, see how openai is asking for $200 and Devin for $500. I think we need to build our free open source solution today or we will be lost in the complexity later

Yes, it's not like paying any of those sums is a lot if you get a working app, but the problem is most of the work done does not in fact produce any working apps that are worth anything. And it's a snake eating its own tail since apps will cost less and less to make and people will not want to spend money on paid apps, which in turn will make apps that cost money to make not viable. It all leads to free coding for free apps. Is that a bad thing? No. Unless we count all the low quality garbage that will be made by AI from people who are just messing around. Its like that time period when we had thousands of programs on the net to chose from, not knowing which one is worth your time. When now most of those are completely obsolete and most things can be done online for free.

Use gemini 2 api, its free and about as good as gpt4. My project is too large now to use anything but Cline

I am giving it the instruction : `Never omit code, always write the full code no matter what. ` and it always writes the full code.

My problem with Cline is that, if I want to use Claude Sonnet 3.5, you also have to use Anthropic API. So, now I pay for Claude Sonnet and I pay for Anthropic API. Then, what I found, after one day of heavy use, is that I paid $17 for the use of the Anthropic API - that, with my daily use case is near $20/day. x 365, that is 30 times the cost of Cursor, which just has Sonnet built in. I wanted to use Cline - it is free but, 1) it's incredibly expensive (if you want to use Claude Sonnet), and 2) It hard-core rate limits the number of tokens per chat. It is literally the most expensive way to use the best coding AI and it sucks to spend money on the tokens it takes to re-educate each new chat with context, over and over and over. Even copilot lets you use Sonnet - Cline basically prevents you from using Sonnet. I would never say it's free - that is totally misleading. Cursor still wins for Sonnet dev.

I combine between Cline and Windsurf (which has a model similar to Copilot and Cursor, in which you basically dont have to pay per API call).
I think I mentioned during the video that is Cline is Free but you obviously need to pay for the API calls assuming you're not running with local models / Gemini (which is currently free)
      Anyway,
      appreciate your feedback!

@@YaronBeen That's fair and Windsurf is basically Cursor but cheaper - also let's you use Claude Sonnet 3.5. But what you and every other TH-camr neglect to mention is that, if you want to use Claude Sonnet 3.5, Cline will cost you a fortune in Anthropic API calls and you will be severely rate limited. If you use Cursor or Windsurf, Cline is irrelevant. Everyone keeps saying Cline is free but, if you're a developer, you know Claude Sonnet 3.5 is the current best - Gemini 2.0 doesn't come close - and Cline (the Anthropic extension) doesn't come close to delivering Sonnet like Cursor or Windsurf. Further, Cline doesn't give you code or terminal editing tooltips like Cursor or Windsurf. Even copilot got that right.
There's a reason why Windsurf and Cursor forked VS Code - it's because extensions didn't let them control the editor. There's a reason, therefore, why Cline can't compete. If you are willing to use a subpar AI and, if you can forego editing and command line features, then, yes, Cline is free. The only hope for free in VS code, with editor control, is actually copilot.

What I do not understand is why I cannot use my own OpenAI/Claude/Gemini/Grok account to use AI. I mean, I should be able to take something like IntelliJ IDEA, and use the AI that I want. I am already paying 20 bucks a month for OpenAI, why should I pay for another assistant? Let me login with my account and use it. 20$ a month is a lot of money. And I do not want a new IDE, like in Devin, I want to use Intellij or what I fuckin want.

      Appreciate the feedback.
      Imho,
The current "weakest link" for building complex stuff js the model.
None of the Ai coding assistants is able to build non simple stuff without the guidance of a somewhat skilled developer.
But as models improve, which they probably will, using Cline or competitors will become even more valuable :)
