He donated all the royalties for this song to UK children’s charity Childine, but it didn’t come out that he had done that until after his death as he wanted it to be secret. Such an amazing, generous man
The album has a jazz and Brazilian Bossa Nova vibe. He met Anselmo when he went to Brazil to do some shows, and then went back there to visit the cemetery where Anselmo was buried. I think the image of the two guys in boxes represents them hiding the relationship from the public. I might be wrong but I see it like that. It is a beautiful album, and it came out when I started going out to gay places and George Michael was playing everywhere at that time.
Amazing reaftion as always guys... In interviews, George Michael was quite open about the fact that "Jesus to a Child" was written in memory of Anselmo Feleppa. In a 1997 interview with The Advocate, he said: "It was my way of dealing with my grief, which I had been unable to express publicly. Anselmo's death was the first time I truly had my heart broken." The music video is not just a tribute to Anselmo but also a coded reflection of the struggles associated with same-sex love during a challenging era. The imagery, tone, and overall feel of the video echo the emotional complexity of loving and losing someone in a world that often forced such love into the shadows.
I think the start is the sands of time and the kind of scythe going through those sands, cutting to represent an ending or disruption. You also see the metronome keeping time, perhaps even representing a heartbeat? It goes with the rhythm of the song, too. I always thought it was something like that. And the naked man lying down is just complete despair and someone totally vulnerable. Another wonderful George song. Thanks guys.
One of the most heartfelt songs he ever made , the loss of Anselmo really changed him and even told it in the “Older” album dedication , this song hits you to the core 😢
You're lucky if you not had someone you love die on you. As you get older you will face it. When you truly love someone, they never really leave you, they are part of who you are, there is just this hole in you, that you cant fill. The pain lessons over time and you stop thinking about them every day. But something reminds you of them and its all fresh again.
This is still one of my all time favorite songs of anything. ❤ It escaped me for a while and hit so hard when I rediscovered it. Along a few other favorites of mine I made at the time, it also made me realize that noticeable percussions are such a thing for me. Oooh the rhythm ...
Melancholic lyrics, sung with smooth vocals, to relaxing bossa nova? Goated George Michael song. Came out three years after his first love's death and a year before his mother's death, which was another loss that hit him hard.
The song is about Anselmo..his first living partner who died from Hiv complications in 1993
This song made me fall in love with George Michael a few years ago when I discovered it. Older is a masterpiece album

This song is not only sad, it’s devastating.

George had something to say in his songs. He was so beautiful.

This song is so beautiful. It is my anthem after my husband died young, it is a song I listen to daily. 😢

This is a classic, but for me, You Have Been Loved, from the same album, is even better.
It's heartbreaking

One my personal favourite George Michael tracks of all time. Epic and beautiful ❤
Probably one of my favorites. It allowed George to just sing a song at a slow pace with a melody.
The best grieving song ever written! Missed you George - RIP 🙏 dear 😢
The innocence of Jesus to a child....
This song and “brother, can you spare a dime” are my 2 favorite George Michael jazzy tunes.
Brother Can You Spare A Dime, yes!!! The Pavarotti and Friends live version is one of his most perfect performances ever!!
I love all your reactions 💗. The love of George Michael's life, arguably, died

This song gives me the feels every time I hear it. Sung so beautifully. ✌🏻
The intro sounds a lot like Terrence Trent D’Arby’s song Sign Your Name Across My Heart. Both are so beautiful.
One of my favourites from George, evokes so much feeling. So glad it's on the list!
Beautiful song, beautiful reaction ❤
