Making A Fishing Net with a Banksia Pod Handle |

  • This is my first time ever trying to incorporate bent wood into a project. I struggled for a long time trying to decide what to build but ended up going with a custom landing net for fly fishing. The handle is made from banksia pod, the loop from walnut and maple with some brass inlaid into the handle as well.
    Thanks again to the Chris, Mike and Ben over at the Modern Maker Podcast and of course Rockler Woodworking for putting on this fun challenge.
    I really hope you enjoy, comment below if you have any questions.

      5:55 why pressure and not vacuum?
      Both, the video and the workmanship of the woodworking is just great

      Thanks Martin, I don’t have a vacuum but if I did I would have definitely used that instead.

    Nice job. Looks awesome. Why use resin instead of wood glue for the thin pieces. Is it stronger?

    Great handle and build. Where did you get the net and what type of line did you use to tie it on?

    Could you share with me the approximate size of the form you built for your net?

    Any reason behind using epoxy over say, titebond 3? Going to make a few nets myself.

    Amazing! What was the liquid you put on the pod before the resin? Was that a stabilizer?

    Great video!. I’m just wondering when you bend the wood do you just soak it in water or do you steam it. And if you soak it in water how long do you do it for. Also how do you put a groove in with a file?

    • @blacktimbercompany5716
      @blacktimbercompany5716  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I soaked it in hot water for about 30 minutes. As for the groove I just filled it in slowly and it didn’t take to long.

    How thick were the strips of wood you used?

    Sweet. How long did you let the wood soak in the tube before bending it?
