I am in Florida and I bring my coleus inside my patio when there is a freeze/frost advisory

Do you think they would survive if you transfer them to pot and then store for winter or is it easier to propagate?

Oh yes, coleus can be and are often successfully grown as house plants. They can get really big too. I’ve taken the entire plants inside before in the previous years and they continued to grow indoors, they got so big one time they became too much to handle 😅 and that’s the only reason why I take cuttings now. Sometimes I use my cuttings as a dining table centerpiece and give some to the guests before they leave. Then I pot them up and grow them as baby houseplants all winter until summer when they’ll be moved back to the garden.
And Yes you can dig the plant up from the ground and put in a pot although it might go into shock for a bit (transplant shock) and some leaves might wilt and fall off but if you keep the root alive by keeping the soil moist, it’ll bounce back 👍
If this is your first time, why not try both? If for some reason the mother plant doesn’t bounce back (though I’m sure it will), you’ll have the cuttings as a safety deposit 😊

How long do they take to root at room temperature?

Hi, after about 20 days or so you should start seeing small roots. I usually wait about a month and a half for all the cuttings to take root and then I’ll choose to pot only the really strong and healthy ones that put out the most amount of roots.
