While Mary Slept was composed specially for Multitude of Voyces’ Anthology Volume 3 - Advent to Candlemas Mixed Voices Anthems - to enrich the repertoire of post-Epiphany works with texts by women poets. The poem - written in 1893 - reflects on the protective relationship between mother and son but, rather than imagining the mother’s point of view, in this particular instance the poet imagines Jesus comforting his mother, aware of the great grief which is to come to her in future years. www.multitudeofvoyces.co.uk/v...
