I took a pro forma financial projection for a transport business and with the excellent instruction provided in your video, I was able to construct a very professional presentation. B-E charts are an awesome, visual business tool. Your video instruction was excellent. Man... the incredible power of TH-cam video, the internet... and the magic of stop - pause & rewind. Many thanks.
You are AWESOME! When I first listened to your video, I was shaking my head thinking there was no way I could follow what you were doing. Even with a totally obsolete excel spreadsheet, I managed to find my way to doing exactly what you did. Thank you sooo much!!!!
Im currently taking survey calculus right now in college and my teacher is absolutely awful at his job. I have an exam in an hour and a half and this video has so far helped me way more than any of the others. THANK YOU !
Net Income = Revenue (funds coming in for period) - Expenses (funds going out for the period). It is an accounting / economic measure to determine performance of the company.
I would make three separate charts. I do not know how to make sense of adding all the fixed costs and then plotting three separate lines - it does not make sense to me. But if you insist - just add extra columns and plot them - similar to the way we had three columns for the three lines that we plotted in this video.
A yellow link should appear at the top of the screen to enable the worksheet. Good luck. I just used it and followed the instructions on the video and it came out perfect.
At 2:35:15 of the video it is missed up to put "," between -# and K for formatting style but it is correctly mentioned in the workbook. Thank you for longest video about excel I have ever watched.
I did not start with Line. It is Scatter all the way. Within the Scatter there are options to show Scatter as line or points, but they are all Scatter.
Great tutorial and easy to follow. This video helped me accomplish my assignment, maybe more thorough than the University expects. Thank you for the help!
Excellent tutorial, thanks. I'm really hoping you monitor comments for this video otherwise I'm stuck in a lurch. Microsoft 365 Apps seems to no longer have the capability to modify Series X/Y values. At 15:16 in the video, you proceed to show how to add the BEU value in the chart and when you go to add the point at 15:40, you get the Edit Series dialog which has 3 entries namely "Series name", "Series X values", and "Series Y values." In Microsoft 365 Apps, there's only 2 entries, namely "Series name" and "Series values." Is there some configuration option to enable for this to work in this version of Excel?
Nevermind - I realized that I did not pay enough attention when you were adding thew chart. I created a 2-D Line chart instead of a Scatter with Straight Lines. Now I can see the Set X/Y values. I thought I was going mad when I couldn't find anything on the internet about my problem.
Man, that was amazing, I got aproject due tomorrow and was just needed help. on the very last step when I made the break even bigger and stuff, on the legend it doesnt indicate that the BEU is a point. its still a straight line on the legend with no point in the middle, but there is a point on the graph....what do?..
This is my favorite video so far! What other videos/playlists of yours would you recommend for learning cost accounting/financial accounting? (aside from the excel finance, which I'm enjoying!)
Very helpful! My only complaint (possibly included but I missed it) is that this doesn't factor in start-up costs. I'm working on a business plan for a class and wish I would have found this sooner. Is there any way to manipulate/add in the start-up expenses?
Thank you for the quick response. Having reviewed the video, I see that you switched from Line to Scatter, is it necessary to start with Line and then switch ... or is it OK to start with scatter?
I have A LOT of videos. Check out this two minute video that shows how to navigate the channel and showcases the free classes in some of my TH-cam Playlist: th-cam.com/video/l1-1aVgFth4/w-d-xo.html
This is an awesome tutorial! Do you have a video where it shows the break even analysis using two units of sale? I am attempting to calculate & demonstrate the break even point for them. Otherwise, I need to know how many of each unit combined needs to be sold to reach the company's break even point.
Hello, Excells fun. Thank you for your video. I'm having one problem when plotting the breakeven point. In your net income column you manage to find the exact $0 point. I can't figure out how to get to this point. My net income goes straight from ($1,720,000) to $100,000 on the next row down. I imagine this has something to do with my data in the 'assumptions' table..... any help would be most appreciated! Cheers
When plotting the x and y for the BEP, seeing only 2 fields: 'series name' and 'series values'. Not seeing 3 options 'series x values', 'series y values' and 'series values' as appearing on the video @15:42. I'm using Excel 2010. Any ideas?
That was a great tutorial, thank you very much. I already really like excel and now I'm starting to love it. Thanks again, and if will be going through more of your tutorials
The link does not lead directly to the Excel download. After a long time going back and forth through the pages that have codes, we could not find the file on the website. Doesn't appear to still be on the site.
Love trick #744, i am wondering how i can search your database for other useful excel magic tricks, I would be interested in a complex machine hour or labor hour driver for manufacturing overhead annual calculator for process costing
Hi, having problem with showing the break even point on the chart, as I dont get X & Y options when creating, so the point on the chart is only on X or Y and not on the lines, please help
I just saw "NPV and IRR in Excel 2010" video before this and you talked about cash flows. In it, at the end you introduced IRR function - the value at which it is not worthy to carry out that investment (similar to break even, if break even does not occur then why continue?). The calculation involved netting cash inflows and outflows over the time period. In this video too it is about finding cost (cash outflow) and revenues (inflow) to find the break even point (profit =0). Would the break even point be exactly similar to IRR if we were to plot the above cash flows (ins and outs) to calculate IRR?
how would you calculate the break even when you do not have a cost of goods. This would be in reference to a service company where there is no cost of goods. David
When i go to select data, and press add, I got series name and series values only... I cant select which one is x-axis and which one is the y-axis for the POINT of BreakEven... Anyone can help ASAP?...
How do you include "Investment Dollars" as in a start up company. Your/my chart does work, but does not balance with my other spread sheet. i am off by $38k plus. Please help.
HY Mike, i need help, i have to create a dynamic break even analysis with excel, but i do not sell units, i just sell services, i just do not know how to set it up...thanks
Thanks! I did notice that it is impossible to find the file you are using as a template from the link in your description. Perhaps give the name of file too, I ended up just making my own file but it might be nice!
Is it possible to build this chart for six different products all with different variable costs, different selling prices and vastly varying projected sales volume?
Thank you so much. 13 years later I watch this video and it help me a lot. 🙏🙏

This is an excellent tutorial, is there a video of a break even analysis for a manufacturing company?
