  • I enjoyed dining in this Max's Restaurant in Mandaluyong along Shaw Blvd. which is close by to the Jose Rizal University. Here a video clips of popular and authentic Filipino dishes like Max's fried chicken, their take on the American staple style that both American and locals loved since 1945.
I had the fresh lumpia (ubod) which is hard to make and I am way better off to eat it here because the ubod or bamboo shoots can be hard to come by. Also, the Kare-Kare was tasty though the oxtail was not really present. Understandable because that is a pricey piece of meat.
Beef pochero is like a fusion dish because it has pork and beans from the can mixed with a "nilaga" soup base. Filipino nilaga is much like caldo de res dish that a Californian would find in Mexican food markets like Cardenas. Well, Mexicans and Filipinos are like cousins when it comes to food, we both have menudo and adobo, we shared avocado, tamarind, and mango, and having lived in Fontana with a Mexican family, I can attest that we have a lot in common when it comes to taste here in the USA. I clarified here in the USA because the cilantro or coriander and other essences took some adjustment for me and it is understandable that in the Philippines, El Pollo Loco makes their salsa differently. Filipino local taste is more sweet!
Overall, I loved all of the food at this franchise and now I am in Virginia close by a Max's in Virginia Beach, I am still hesitant to try it out. I check the Google reviews and it is low at 3.9 for the Max's here. Filipinos that grew up in the Philippines have a different palate than American born counterparts unless their mom, dad, or grandparents cook food well.
