This is the first game I ever played on the N64 when I got it for Christmas when I was 7. I can still remember my technology challenged parents desperately trying to hook it up. They had the system on, and were screwing the RF adapter in last, so I could slowly see the game start to come on the screen through the snow/static screen. A memory that has stuck with me. I wish I could feel that amount of joy as an adult 🤣 Trying to medal this game on every level is quite the challenge. Wouldn't mind seeing Ryu attempt that.
not sure if you put it together but when Peppy says not to fly too low because your ship can't take it on Solar, they're actually telling you that you take damage faster the lower you fly. also Slippy says the Arwing can take temperatures up to 9,000 degrees. the arwing is taking heat damage, therefore (forgive me) IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND!
This is indeed a classic. One of the best games for the N64. I had many great games for that console, from Perfect Dark, to both Zeldas (OoT and Majora's Mask).
To get to Aquus, you had to kill 100 enemies before you got to a certain point. Also, if you flew into formation, you'd get a 1-Up from it. In Katina, Peppy will sometimes accidentally shoot down one of Bill's guys. That scream wasn't dramatic. In Area 6, if you don't shoot down all five missiles, one of your wingmen will get hit. They run like that in the bad ending. The difference between the two is Andross' face doesn't appear in the sky in the good ending.
This is one of my favorite games ever. I so often go back and play this. Not only is it a great game, but the fact you can just pick up jump immediately into it and beat it in a hour or so keeps me coming back. Now if only I was actually good at the game.
@@marksnow9917 What the hell is your point? Even being terrible at the game doesn't take an hour to beat. That means you would take the easiest route because you're bad and you'd still be able to beat it in less than an hour. Your logic is severely flawed, dipshit....
I remember playing this game so much on my N64, such good times. Finding the shortcuts and dodging all the fire and saving Slippy's sorry butt numerous times. Absolute gem of a game. Glad to see you playing this
What I'd do: - Arwing Missions only - Playable Star Fox, Star Wolf and Kat/Krystal/Faye/Miyu team missions - Compelling story dripping in Nostalgia from the series lore, but relevant and new for our times. Possible AI/Robot baddies forcing Star Fox and Star Wolf to team up to save the galaxy. - Online Battle Royale Dogfights in Space + 4v4 Team battles - Top Tier Voice Actors. Think Nolan North as Fox, Dave Fennoy as General Pepper, Danny Devito as Pigma, etc - DLC Pack Franchise Crossover, featuring the F-Zero universe and featuring the original 4 Pilots in F-Zero as a team (Falcon, Pico, etc)
I’ve been watching you for years, but this might be my favorite video yet. I have so much nostalgia for this game, it was cool seeing you share in that as well. I could never get the epic ending as a kid, so we’d play multiplayer on my friend’s N64 who was able to unlock everything.
My brothers and I used to take turns on the story missions so we could unlock everything like the landmaster and on foot for vs. This game was my childhood and the music at 53:40 will always get me in the feels
@@joejoe2658 I'm not sure in what way that is anything like Star Fox. I was thinking more like Thunderbirds, which was a classic puppet-based sci-fi adventure show about pilots.
I'd rather have a Star Fox show thats animated. Nintendo made a short for Star Fox Zero a couple of years ago, and it was well done! If anything, that should've got its own series.
This is still one of my favourite games ever. A lot of it definitely comes down to nostalgia, but I have so many good memories playing Lylat Wars/Starfox 64. I especially remember being really proud when I reached Venom on the hard route for the first time, just to reset the console because I was scared of Andross' brain boss form. Did that every time until I got a little older lol. When it was announced for the virtual console on the Switch, one of my friends immediately jumped to the shop to get me an N64 controller, since they knew how much I love this game and how long I waited for Nintendo to release that controller.
Funny how you got the strategy guide but, never used it once this whole playthrough. Also funny Fox crashed right in front of his father at the end. Lastly, I don't mind hour long retro games like this. Keep them coming, bro.
Great video as usual, man! I grew up with this game and it is one of those awesome N64 classics that is easy to revisit! While it is a very short game, it still is quite fun and replayable. I hope you do more '90s Nintendo classics! This really makes me wish for a new Star Fox game! I just hope they go back to what made this series great! Simple, fun, intense shmup with charming characters and corny dialogue (and lots of explosions)!
for anyone who's curious, the secret in the 2nd level he played is unlocked just by getting enough kills. It's pretty tough because targets are relatively scarce for how many points you need. You want lots of bombs and charged shots to take out groups.
I was sarcastically thinking “maybe you should actually read that player’s guide you have” LOL. I actually think the game does a good job at communicating that mechanic though, you get audio feedback as you get closer to the lava, and one of the teammates has that early comment about flying high.
Bro you are the master of locking on a charge shot and then immediately shooting the target down, thereby negating it 😂 Great play through, lot of nostalgia there
This is one of my favorite games as well. I, unfortunately, did not grow up with the original N64 version. But I bought it on virtual console (Wii) with some of my christmas money in high school.
