  • In this video we take you to the beautiful sites of Moal Boal and Mactan. Although the diving in Mactan is not worth a global flight, it is certainly a nice little hop into the water after recovering from a long haul trip before heading to other destinations around Cebu. There is one large cavern dive that some would call a cave but in my opinion it is simply a large cavern with a large opening which is Marigondon Cave. The roof of the cave is around 30 meters while the floor is about 40 meters wide and the entrance has a small alcove as you go in on your right side. It does not take too long to reach the end of the cavern which is called the “Grotto” where you might want to dim your light and experience the flashing colors of flashlight fish living in this part of the cavern.
Following an easy 2 day break after traveling on an international flight and taking the small road trip from Cebu international airport we then ventured to SM City Mall to stock up on some supplies like local cash, SIM cards, toiletries and snacks all which can easily be purchased inside the grocery store and is actually a lot less trouble than going to a bank or phone store. The grocery store is on the lower level and just ask anybody where this is. SM City mall is also right next to the Cebu SM North Bus Terminal where you can take a bus from here to many destinations including Bogo, Maya port for Malapascua island, Medellin, San Remigio, Hagnaya Port for Bantayan island, among other destinations in the Northern part of the Cebu Province.
To go to Moalboal, you need to go to the south terminal where you can take the bus that says “Bato via Barili” or “Moalboal.” Don’t take the bus that says “Bato via Oslob” because it takes you to the other side of Southern Cebu. The bus stops at town proper of Moalboal. From there, you need to take the motorcycle or tricycle to get to Panagsama or White Beach.

Once we arrived in Moal Boal we tried two separate hotels. One was right in the old part of the main village that had a bit of a beating from their last storm and stayed at Neptune's which was very basic but lovely hosts and great food in a dining area overlooking the ocean. www.hotels.com/ho752929664/ne...
The other hotel (Cebu Seaview) was a much more upscale experience and this is also where I had the lovely pleasure of meeting Oscar who works with Savedra divers www.savedra.com/technical-div.... I highly recommend Oscar and his team especially if you are into technical diving as they have all you need. Take a peek at the resort cebu-seaview.com/about/cebu-s...
The diving in Moal Boal was excellent, only marred by the presence of tourists clambering over the coral tables for cheap snorkel excursions which were directed by locals dragging folks around in life vests after walking over the corals to the wall section and then into the open water into the sardine balls. This was quite disheartening to witness as these corals are getting wrecked by abuse and they need to take action to protect their biggest assett. Overall the diving was great, the visibility was not spectacular and so I was not able to get too many good videos however it is well worth the trip.
