I live in Knoxville Tennessee, I obviously wasn’t born to see the fair but my mom did and gave me a banner. I’ve also been up inside the sunsphere, they used to have parties up inside there but not anymore. The building is iconic to the state now and is even on our credit cards lol
This episode was the first that I ever recall seeing back in the day when I was growing up. This particular scene, Bart eating cereal with milk out of the box and Martin's robotic toy dog getting thrown out and run over (and Nelson laughing off-camera) stuck with me well before I started watching it more regularly and understood it more.
The real world fair did happen in Knoxville and started on May 1st and ended on Halloween. I guess Milhouse didn’t realize it was 1996 and the fair happened in 1982.
You mean the wig-sphere. I love how the writers decided to take a few shots at the 1982 World's Fair (as though they needed knocking down a peg or two). My favorite episode.
Not to mention that Season 7 brought us the episode when karma bit back after he laughed at the very tall man driving. "Hey everybody, look at this! It's that boy who laughs at everyone! Let's laugh at him!"
I miss when kids usedvto play with toys past 4 years old. Once theyre about 4 or 5 they automatically want to play videogames. At least when i was a kid, we would eventually get bored of playing Nintendo and atari.. but the internet is so filled with anything you can think of . Its like a giant library
Milhouse’s wig is PINK with a PINK BOW…😄 (The bow is purple in Tapped Out, for whatever reason.) Edit: I watched the scene again. The bow actually looks very light purple. Maybe it’s a #TheDress thing. At any rate, the bow in Tapped Out is regular purple (think Nelson’s wig).

I love this episode too.. the Simpsons used to be the greatest show in tv history imo. Im guessing you specifically searched "Simpsons worlds fair" just as i did? Lol.
Must have watched this scene at least a couple dozen times and it’s only now I’m realizing all the wigs spill out of the Sunsphere when it comes crashing down. Man, the makers of the show knew how to set up a joke and then have it pay off later on in the episode. Miss the old Simpsons :(

When I was 13 I watched the sunsphere go up. My Dad was director of internal control for the worlds fair.

They sell Wigsphere post cards and stickers at the Sunsphere. Picked up a post card while I was there.
I went to Knoxville just to take a photo with this sphere and a wig, worth it!
