I just discovered you/your channel yesterday while searching TH-cam for french learning videos (specifically for tous/tout/toute/toutes--yes, after six years living in France I still didn't completely understand those, haha!) and I just LOVE your content! I use several different methods to learn french, including school courses, private lessons, language apps, audio books, etc.) and I am definitely going to incorporate your lessons into the mix. Super clear and helpful!

Can we say "je sais ce dont tu as besoin' to be: je sais dont tu as besoin. We remove "ce'. What is the different?

You said in the beginning it means what or that... I watched the whole thing but as far as I could tell, in every example it only means what.
So do you have any examples where it actually means that instead of what?

I always pronounce "Je ne sais pas." as "Jun sais pas". I thought you would compine the "Je" and "ne" for elision?

    • @tamarkelly4107
      @tamarkelly4107 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I pronounce it the same way. I think combing it to sound like "jun sais pas" is common in spoken French.

    Is it correct to say?
Je ne sais pas ce à quoi tu fais référence
I clearly understood how to use ce que,ce qui and ce dont but I don't know what to do when it comes to use a verb followed by the preposition "à", as for example
    faire référence à
    songer à
    appartenir à
    penser à

    Bonjour
One of the sentence you were saying: '' Je ne sais pas ce que pense mon professeur de français. '' Ce que + verbe ? right? Because Ce qui + verbe ?
I mean: Wouldn't be like that: ' Je ne sais pas ce qui pense mon professeur de français. '
Am I wrong? Please if it's possible and don't mind: Can anyone explain why it's ce que pense....
    Merci d'avans...

Ce qui (use after a verb)
Ce que (Use after a subject)
Dont (De que is not french)
Ce dont (Ce de que is also not French)
Quoi (What to « and then verb »)
    Example
Je ne sais pas quoi faire!
Ils ont quelque chose dont j’ai besoin
Ce dont j’ai besoin sont les vacances
Ce qui me dérange le plus c’est quand mon père se fâche de tout
Je ne sais pas ce qu’il a dit

when you are saying stuff like 'object' for your 'dependent clause' it makes it so much harder to understand as i dont know what this means ?????????????? so i don't get this!!!

Ceza then you should learn english grammar firstly.

    • @tamarkelly4107

I know that this comment is old, but I learned it as "ce que" is always followed by a subject and verb whereas "ce qui" is only followed by a verb; "ce dont" is relevant when the preposition "de" is used. It's much more helpful to think of it that way.
