I gotta ask 2 things....first off I can't believe I have never seen one before but WHAT was that device you heated up the rod with?!? that is too cool, I had no idea those existed.....and 2 are you an american doing metal work in a british basement? That is an induction heater. Basically it uses changing magnetic fields to cause conductive materials to be heated.

Thanks mate. Its an induction forge/heater. And yes, American, dual nationally really, and my workshops are in the UK. Those walls are older than America!
