Bracken is just phenomenal. Even though it has the cloves and cinnamon in it, they almost have a cooling spice for me. Works in any temperature for me.
Masculine purial is my absolute favorite fragrance of all time !! To me its a more masculine and lavender vetiver version of reflection man!!!!! The powder is so smooth !!!
Fougere Royal is without question my go-to fougere fragrance. I am on my fourth bottle. It smells fabulous. I would also include a truly fabulous fragrance from Masque Milano called Hemingway.
Favorite fougeres this week are Les Indemodables - Fougere Emeraude Nobile 1942 - Fougere Nobile Tom Ford - Beau de Jour MDCI - Invasion Barbare Naughton and Wilson - Gravitas Houbigant - Fougere Royale Tom Ford - Fougere Platine Rogue - Fougere L' Aube
I do own B-612 and it’s a beats om me! projects monstrously! Don’t think it’s on the light side, at least not on me. Only need two sprays to last a hole workday.😊 Love that one and together with Hacivat my favorite from the house!
I live in dry heat and fougere royale and masculin pluriel works great. I agree I wouldn't wear the sweet ones in the heat. Thanks for another great video.
Lol I wear Ani at temps 80-90 and I must say I find the fragrance smells a lot better and the spices unfold and as of now I prefer how it wears in the warmer weather than compared to the cooler months. in cool months its a "Nice Vanilla" in the warmer months its "More than a Vanilla".....but hey im loco 😂😂😂😂
What about Calvin Klein "Eternity E.D.P."? I just started using it today. It smells good, I enjoy the smell of it a lot, but I don't yet know what it's overall performance is like.
Now i got my decant of B-612 and to be honest it reminds me a lot of Masculin Pluriel. Both smell really synthetic and they remind me those car defusers.
I think many of the new men’s fragrances are classified as fougere’s you went for more of the “classic” style. I would pick Chanel Platinum Egoiste with that mental cold feel in the heat works well. Also the new Viking Cologne would fit this list well. Was able to sample it and it’s very nice.A fresher more citrus Viking that will be great for summers.
Being based in southern Vietnam I can say fougere don't do well here except in the less hot months like Nov to Feb. Tried Fougere Royale and Rive Gauche but still too cloying.
@@ThePerfumeGuy i actually got it for myself but found it too green for my own taste, yes yes, he knows 😆 i got myself xerjoff’s 40 knots and it arrived today, oh my god, what a beautiful scent! I think women can easily wear this one, dont know why it has so many masculine votes on fragrantica 🤔
I love Roja Vetiver Pour Homme Parfum Cologne and the performance is horrible on me. Do you have any similiar smelling options with more longevity? Love this concept Sebastian!
Love most of Nishane but B612 was such a let down. I had a hard time smelling it on me. It was so faint I assumed I had received a bad bottle. Really wish it would have been more noticeable.
Bon Monsieur for the win in my book or Fougère L’Aube from the same house. You’re right - Bracken Man is a pretty solid bet also. How about Scandal and Fiero too? ☺️
Yes I agree re Scandal for sure. Especially Scandal Parfum Cologne in the humid heat. Fiero not too experienced with unfortunately! Will have to check it out. :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy Fiero is a similar take on Dior Eau Sauvage lasts a bit longer. I have worn me decant of Fiero along side eau sauvage with good success Fiero lasts a bit longer I feel.
I’d like to add Patrick cologne a great cheapie that is super green from fragrances of Irelandbit in my opinion is super beautiful . I was also thinking Penhaligons Endymion could work as well. Even green Irish tweed could be considered. Have a great night all.
I just bought Special for Gentlemen by Le Galion. You recommended it a few years ago. It's a superb fougere, I'm blown away! Though probably not the best choice for hot and humid weather.
It’s really really good! But it’s warm and resinous so I left it off. But either way I need another bottle as I’m way at the bottom in my current bottle.
Fantastic suggestions. I think Bracken is a bit strong and vintage, so maybe better in cooler temps. Sartorial can be cloying with the sweet dampened honeyed aspects coming through in humidity.. strange scent tbh. I'd include Roja Scandal Parfum Cologne for a traditional classic fresh fougere, Chanel Platinum Egoiste sharp fougere with heavenly metallic opening,.. and maybe even Cerruti 1881.
Chanel Egoiste is not a barbershop fougere at all. Plus I don't like it at all. Now Platinum Egoiste is like a hybrid of a cool barbershop lavender fougere and the Green Irish Tweed DNA, producing a weird metallic accord to me. Not sure about hot/humid appropriateness though.
@Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews: Does that Pasha smells like the Fougere notes in the EDP but without the warm notes or different? I like those aspects but for my noise the mixture of fougere and that amber smells strange. Hoe about Bois de Portugal? Does Aqcua de Parma has a typical Lavender based Fougere scent too?
Yes to me the new Pasha Parfum reminds me of the EDT without the warm notes and the heavy sandalwood. I'm assuming you can classify Bois Du Portugal as a fougere but it's not typically Fougere like for me. And I have not seen an ADP Fougere or Lavender heavy scent! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy This is something I've never fully understood, the whole barbershop vs fougere. Although I own many of them, so as long as I like the scent maybe it doesnt matter.
Platinum Egoiste is such a versatile fragrance for a slightly older (30+) man. It’s not a fragrance that ever ‘wowed’ me and yet I reach for it again and again. And it works all year round.
@@apollo5756 The way I've reconciled the whole "barbershopy" vs. fougere thing, which is a bit of a nebulous, ill-defined and subjective undertaking anyway, is to think of Venn diagrams. Those overlapping circles that show set relationships. Most fragrances that get annointed as "barbershop" are fougeres, but not all. Maybe 80 or 90%. And of course fougeres, by definition, pretty much follow the structure of its eponymous fragrance, the original 1882 Houbigant Fougere Royale. The note triad of lavender, coumarin and oakmoss figure in as the fougere backbone. "The smell of a fern" implies green to me. I suppose coumarin, with its "freshly mown hey" accord, did that for Fougere Royale, but I would think any notes providing a "green" accord would suffice. Lavender I think is the "indespensible note" in a fougere if there is one. If someone calls a frag a fougere and it doesn't have lavender I tell them the burden of justifying the label is on them. I read that a perfumer explained the difference between a fougere and a chypre as immediately being able to classify each based on the difference between the lavender-coumarin and bergamont-oakmoss accords. I guess the "clean, cool and masculine" association and vibe of lavender and green made the gentleman's barbershop association inevitable. But what about the other 10% to 20% of "barbershop" scents that aren't fougeres? Is classic Old Spice a "barbershop" frag? Pinaud Clubman? I would say so. Any aftershave qualifies in my book. Old Spice is not a fougere - it's a Spicy Oriental (the world's first for men!) Any scent, regardless of classification, can be considered a "barbershop" if it conjures an association.
Fougere for Women? EEK. Hmm. I would have to research. I know there are a ton of Chypre's for women but not Fougeres. I know though there are unisex Fougere's out there!! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy I love Cartiere's Shypre La Panther fragragrances, will be nice to find something for humid summer in Florida maybe even if it's for Man
As someone new to creating perfumes I don't get fougere or chypre types. It appears to me that it's just some descriptive title given to any scent having the list of 4 materials. Nothing more. You list 8 or 10 materials you smell her yet they likely have 5 or more you're not smelling. So if I create a perfume with 20 materials which is certainly not a large #, it might be called a Fougere just because in the list of materials, I happen to have used the basic fougere materials? We never seem to get definitions that aren't confusing.
IN a hot humid climate all the fougere's you recommended would be too for me much unless you are in a cold air conditioned building all day. I would only wear heavily citrus or tea based frags and I probably would not use niche except at night, in air conditioning, and for formal events. Niche can be cloying in the heat. I also feel to much heat and humidity "ruin" the best parts of a niche frag so why waste the money.
But a Malaysian gentleman that buys Niche perfumes possibly spends all day in temperature controlled environment, so any fougere could work at 23.-25 degrees 😂😂😂
