WOW! Blink and you missed it; an all-time Broadway GREAT right after her triumph in creating Evita. PL's low brassy dark voice certainly suited the material; enjoy the signature, and IMHO arbitrary , rubato. Per Broadway database, it only ran 31 performances, including previews. THANK YOU for posting this gem.
Oh my goodness! Thank you for posting this! This is the perfect way to start my day. Patti gave me chills when she sang "As Long As He Needs Me". Perfection! Thank you! P.S. Who is the young woman who sang with Patti during "It's A Fine Life?"
This Production was so unlucky in the fact it took one negative review from Frank Rich to close it. Yes Patti is a little unsure of her character (this was a preview recording) but she managed to wow audiences by Opening Night. So sad that it failed it was the last run to use the original designs.
Yes, it’s a little ‘park and bark’ but that’s sort of why we love Patti. And ALAHNM is great - you get the emotion even with the slightly poor video quality.
That might not actually be her fault. I read her biography, and she said they were pretty much just given the blocking and that's it. No character exploration or anything. Speaking as an actor, that sounds a little.... inorganic.
Thank you for uploading! Would you please upload anything else from Oliver!? West End, Broadway or Tour (besides the video with Barry Humphries which I have already seen).
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 Many thanks. By the way, this looks incredible. It makes me wish that more videos of this time were circulated in such high quality.
She was the reason I went to see this production. She was great. Her voice was great. Before she baca me a parody of herself. Unfortunately, Georgia brown sings these songs better.
This blocking makes no sense. One of the greatest theatre voices of the 20th Century and we are going to make her walk up stairs backwards and run away at the climax of the song 🤦🏼♂️
She's not my teacup. I don't believe her in this role at all and she's so tough as nails, there's no vulnerability to her Nancy. And in her final note of the reprise of "As Long As He Needs Me" she's way off-key.
Her vocal fortitude never ceases to impress!
I know right?! I can't wait to see her live next month!
NO WAY!!! I never thought I'd see color footage of this either.
I was as surprised as you to see a drop of color emerge from this dark and ancient video.

oh my goddddd I got chills when she knocked something over during "the hell I've got my pride".
I'm amazed by the way she ascended the stairs. LOL. I love this woman! ❤❤❤
Thank you for posting! Patti sounded fantastic during this time ❤️
Omg thank u for this post any more if u have it
Nobody does Nancy better than Patti....As long as he needs me...breathtaking
Shani Wallis is better!
Georgia Brown, Sally Dexter

Indeed, Rich's review did not help.
Awesome
WOW!!!!!!!!
I kept waiting for her to step out of character and yell, "Stop videotaping. NO PICTURES!"

Actors get directed by… directors. They don’t choose the blocking/staging.
Can you post "Pick a Pocket" from this recording, please? I would love to see it.
How did she not land the roll of Georgette in Oliver and Company?

Sorry to bother, but what date do you have for this video?
April 25, 1984. There is another video from 5/5.

Do you have consider yourself?
Amazing post thank you. But I can't understand a word she says xxx
I prefer Shani Wallis as Nancy! Shani IS Nancy and the perfect Nancy too!
Not much to the scenery and yet she still manages to chew.
I'm sure you mean that in a kind way.
Cannot understand one word. So have no idea why it's a fine life.
Am I wrong? Who can understand a word? Xx
Yes you’re wrong. Not a single word? How about the word “hyperbole”?

Georgia Brown sings them better than anyone ever will.
That's what I was saying.
How did she become a parody of herself?

Literally cannot understand a single word
