      I got an Acer laptop with the IrisXe graphic card and windows 11. I didn't like windows 11 and after hearing about the Copilot AI and Recall spyware, I wanted to kick out Windows 11, so I tried to install Windows 10 and it was a real nightmare.
      External drivers were needed to identify the NVME drive, an it was a mess to get them but finally I manage to install Win 10.
      After installing the computer did reboot and whoops... I got the "Blue Screen Of Death" with no way to pass it.
      I searched for alternatives in Linux and liked Zorin 17.1 for it resembles to windows, and also has a lot of support for Windows third party software. Very comfortable.
      The installation was very easy, no external drivers were needed. It runs wonderful. The only thing I wish is that the third party software companies will make a Linux version so I'll be able to leave Windows behind.

    Installed Zorin on my 1,5 year old laptop earlier this year, and was positively surprised that it found all the hardware. Tried it for a while as a regular user would and never had to touch the command line interface. A first for my experience with Linux. As a 99% Windows user I was very impressed.
    Reinstalled Windows on the same laptop. - Had to download the WiFi driver...
    (Now running Windows, Zorin, and testing other Linux flavors on a third partition.)

    Instead of messing with installations and backing ups I simply bought another SSD and swapped them in my laptop before installing Linux anew (as the machine has space for ust one ssd). The old one is in a drawer and crying, with Win11 on it. Swapping them back is like a 5 minutes job once I know what to do.

    Have played with several Linux distros already. 64 bit as well as 32 bit, some from USB, some from a cd (32 bit are usually below 700MB). Instead of Rufus I would go with Ventoy. One can fit several iso files there, whereas Rufus can only take one. There are other options, but these two are often put against each other. Fletcher one is another such option.

    Nice presentation. I dual boot all my PC's with separate NVMe drives for Windows & Linux - just select which to use on boot up. My Linux choices are Linux Mint for most like Windows or MX Linux for its elaborate set of tools for a variety of software actions. Once Linux is installed a virtual machine allows even simpler operating system experimentation.

    Zorin is okay as a new user distro especially for people coming from Windows, but I don't like their tier-based model with paid tiers. Still, seeing a Linux howto of any kind is nice on a primarily Windows-focused channel.

    • @hopelessdecoy
      @hopelessdecoy หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The "paid" tiers are just some UI configurations, unless you're real particular with your desktop layout no one needs to buy pro unless you want to support the project.

    If anyone has a nostalgia for XP and has an older 32 bit computer, they can try Q4OS Linux distro. Not exactly WinXP, but the feel is similar. The main point is there still are Linux OS that work on 32 bit systems, if you have an old machine that is still working, and they are good to go on internet, unlike those abandoned Windoze versions. Just my experience is the struggle with modern TH-cam. The sound is OK, but the picture is jumpy. Good for music in the background.

    As a lifetime Windows user from Windows 3.1, I really like Zorin.
    I've even given it a 'Windows 10 Wall Paper' and created a 'Data D:' FOLDER (to match my 'Data D:' DRIVE in windows) and created all the standard Windows sub-folder under that (Downloads, Documents. Pictures etc). Makes me feel right at home and it has turned my old circa 2006 HP Pavilion dv6 laptop into a snappy, usable machine!

    You don't have to erase the drive if you install the OS to a different drive. If you don't have room for another drive internally, you simply plug one in to a USB 3.x port and then install to that. This way you have access to all of your Windows files, programs, settings, etc and can still use the new OS. Still having access to your Windows files while using the new OS on the external drive.

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jacobboth1914 I tried dual boot on one internal drive and it didn't go well. I found a better way is to set the boot order in bios to boot from an external USB drive first, which it then will if there is one connected. If it's practical, remove the internal drive temporarily while you set up a new OS on an external one. I bought SSD NVMe cards and external USB NVMe enclosures. Put a new OS on one and boot it from that, or unplug it to boot from your old drive.
      Linux can see and use files on Windows drives but Windows can't necessarily see what's on a Linux one.

      @@jacobboth1914 You're welcome. The normal dual boot approach, with a grub menu, was working okay until Win 10 failed to install an update. I followed advice on how to increase the size of the boot partition, after which it wouldn't boot at all. Then I found a fix for that which boots Linux okay but that Win 10 installation is still broken - it boots to the desktop but doesn't respond to the mouse or keyboard. I've now used the external USB drive method on two PCs with no issues so far.
