    Hi Marty! I bought some watercress last week, saved some thicker stems as some already have some roots on them. Planted these in a pot with pot sitting in a little bit of water. Looks like the watercress are starting to grow! :D Your video inspired me to grow my own.

    got some with roots propagated in water, just odds and ends from a bunch from the asian grocer. Will get some back ups going too. Fav way to cook is in a pan, bit of garlic, chilli, water and chicken stock or oyster sauce, sometime just a splash of soy sauce. Parents like it with balachaung but too stinky for me

      @martysgarden  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This video helped a lot and I added my own touch that might be helpful for someone, grab a 5-$10 solar powered pump for fountains and float it in the tub for some free aeration. Also look up Gordons Ramseys watercress soup recipe on youtube it's simple and damn tasty.

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A floating solar water pump sounds awesome. I will look into that for sure,,as I am now considering combing Australian freshwater Yabbies combined in an aquaponics system with the Watercress. See, latest video.
      Thanks again for the feedback and comment.

      Nice Idea I was thinking of putting fish or something in there to I'll def check that out.
      I've had two of the $10 solar pumps for over a year now an still going strong so no need to get the expensive ones.

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am still searching for one of these pumps as it look like I have found a bath tub to start growing my Watercress in.

      Cool, they grow fast. So easy to multiply once you have one plant. I just took another ten cutting from my new plant.

    G'Day Marty - another great show mate. Curious how you think these would go in the tropics. Right up in the Top End here and in our winter now which is 30C during the day and around 23C overnight. Would these go OK outside in those conditions?

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      patchtoplate Yes, I believe you could grow them no problem in the shade or morning sun. The key would be to replace the water often or have a deeper trough and raise the plants up, maybe on brick. A larger mass of water would keep cooler and have less temperature fluctuation.
      You just don't want the water getting hot or too warm.
      I would give it a go for sure.

    I had one in my aquaponics system and it went mad, unfortunately as it was in direct sunlight and the sun scorched it to death after a few hot days. Gonna try it again in its own shaded grow bed.

    How did those micro greens from woollies go? How long did they take to size for harvesting?

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They went great. I was able to grow them to full adult size and take a ton off cuttings. Actually, I am still doing it and selling 4 plants today for $10,,so I not only get lots of fresh greens. I make a profit too!

    Does it grow well in Sydney with warm Temperate climate

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mohan Udiavar Yes, my friend, it will grow very well in Sydney. However, you will need to keep it shaded on the hot days,,and keep the water cool around the root zone in the summer months. I would recommend starting them this Autumn.

    Just back from a friend's farm in E. Texas and I discovered a pond with lots of watercress. Trouble is, how can I be sure it is watercress. Is there any plant that resembles it and might be poisonous? The leaves absolutely look like nasturtium leaves so I feel positive, but don't want to sicken anyone.
