- The “Lost Coast “ of the King Range in Northern California is a magnificently wild and beautiful landscape with the longest continuous undeveloped coastline in the United States. The King Range itself is very sparsely populated and remote, a haven for those who prefer wilderness to suburban life. You just may find me looking for a piece of land there sometime soon!

I always forget about how people from europe(and other crowder places) come here and see just vast, untouched land. It must be such a treat.
My favourite thing about Europe is the rich culture. But you can’t really have both in the same place!
@@elijahlucian It definitely is! The only place in Europe I've been to that has that type of vast, untouched land would be up north, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. Of course, we have oases od untouched nature throughout Europe, but nothing as large as other continents. I'm going to visit my friend in Texas next year and have to decide which coast I'll explore - the Grand Canyon one or the Niagara Falls one!
I've been to Sorrento in Italy and have seen the Amalfi coast. The way the mountains drop steeply to the water reminded me of the Oregon coast. It's such a shame it's not safe enough to build towns and cities climbing up the hills like in the city of Positano or Amalfi.

"Lockung" is a word german romantic poets used to describe a particular feeling one has while admiring Nature.
It describes that feeling of fear and fascination for the power and immensity of nature , that weird attraction that glues us to the window during a storm , the unexplainable appeal that pushes us into a dark wood at night , the fathal pull that makes us jump into the rough ocean.
No metter how many warning signs they place , there will always be someone who will not be able to resist that attraction.
I had no idea California had black sand beaches! I thought that was only in Hawaii. That place looks so beautiful!

Over 50 years ago I regularly drove the coast route from LA up to Oregon and sometimes Washington. Your video brought back so many memories, and a deep longing. I now live in the central US. Oh, how I miss the ocean!

Wow! Beautiful to watch this on my 4K TV. The view is incredible!
I walked the Lost Coast back in the early 70's, before it was a "thing" to do the hike. I was 18, and alone. I walked from the mouth of the Matole River, at the north end, and walked to Shelter Cove - 24 miles of pure isolation. 7 days, never saw another person. But don't kid yourself - take a tide schedule - you can get trapped. Don't do it in the early spring - the rivers will be quite high, and there are - or were - no bridges. Oh, and bears.Take care.
Not so much solitude these days, but still full of the rugged, wild beauty of the Lost Coast. Definitely tidal zones that are impassable except at low tide. I have started using a bear canister instead of food bag, keeps rodents out too. Nice to hear from you!

I did that hike The Lost Coast from Matole trailhead to Shelter Cove 5 times. Loved it. You exit avenue of the Giants in the redwoods off 101and you pass a little town called Honeydew. Awesome freaking hike. Must be on everybody's bucket list. A MUST

We accidentally found it once too!!! It was a fantastic find. We happened to be at an environmental conference in Monterey, we drove up to Humboldt county and saw the road to the lost coast. What a find!
This wild place spoke to my heart, I can totally see myself buying a piece of land and putting up a tiny off-grid cabin to spend part of my year at just exploring the beauty.
