If you listen to "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett you will understand the reference in this song better. I heard him all the time on the radio back in the day and his songs just have a great relaxed fun vibe about them. Jimmy Buffett is a rabbit hole you will surely enjoy going down. Of course Alan Jackson is truly great and to see them paired up is and was just fun. Love it.
When I was pregnant with my first son (2003) my cousin put on Jimmy Buffett's Let's Get Drunk and Screw, the song is hilarious, while we were in her car, my boy started dancing it was the weirdest feeling. (Both of my boys liked to dance before they were born, and after.) All I knew of Jimmy was Margaritaville, even though I had (and still have) a diverse musical family.
Jimmy Buffett is a legend. He has been around since the '70s and his fan base is STILL growing! My grandparents introduced me to his music over 30 years ago... Margaritaville is probably his greatest hit, but there are so many good songs to choose from! He has a huge loyal fan base called "Parrot Heads"...kinda like Home Frees "Home Fries". While his rabbit hole may not be as deep as some others, it's definitely full of feel good vibes and humor.
Jimmy Buffett is a singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs have such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as “Son Of Son Of A Sailor”, “Fins”, “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”, “One Particular Harbor”, "Come Monday", “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.
You also forgot to list "novelist" to his credits. Last time I checked, he had 4 novels published. Of course that was a long time ago, there may be more by now. If you read much, "Tails from Margaritaville" is a good place to start.
Jimmy's biggest song by for is "margaritaville". Also check out "cheeseburger in paradise", "fins", "changes in latitudes, changes in attitude", "come monday", "one particular harbour"
Buffett is a legend!! His concerts are so fun especially the tailgate parties prior to his concerts!! Alan is amazing too concert. Seen both several times!!
You should do Jimmy Buffet's song "Margaritaville" Very, popular and I wouldn't be surprised if it sounds familiar to you. Oh, and I love watching your channel. You do a great job!!:)
All jimmy Buffett songs are amazing. Dammit, the whole dropping it at 5 is such a legendary move! Love the channel!!!! With Jimmy I would say "a pirate looks at forty" "why don't we get drunk" or "come Monday" all equally favorites for me but, every song he does is great for sure!
My sister had a friend who went to a Buffett concert, and commented that "some guy in a white cowboy hat came out in the middle of a song". She had no idea who Alan Jackson was.
To this day Jimmy Buffett's album " License to chill" (also adult song with Kenney Chesney) is the a Album I put on when a quick escape to the islands. Boats to build is Jimmy featuring Alan Jackson. And Coast of Carolina is my personal favorite. Please react more to Jimmy Buffet.
Jimmy Buffet a legend. "a pirate looks at 40" my favorite. everyone will comment "margaritaville" which is signature song. Alan Jackson next song got to "Wanted" Old school penmanship is next level
Alan Jackson is the king of county if you ask me. He has so many number one hits and most of them he has written himself. A lot of them he is the solo writer. So impressive. My favorite is “home”
Jimmy Buffet is a legend. Have you ever been to a Margaritaville restaurant or store? They have them in a lot of tourist places and theme parks. You need to listen to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and then re-listen to this and you’ll catch references. This song is Alan Jackson referencing that song.
I saw Jimmy Buffet in concert in Orlando Fla. When he had a broken leg and was sitting on a stool. His lead in band was Steve Miller. First concert I'd ever seen and just out of bootcamp ( navy) I had a blast.
Buffet's fan are called Parrot Heads. I have been to Margaritaville many times. I lived in Key West for many years. His songs include: Margaritaville Cheeseburger in Paradise Son of a Son of a Sailor Just to name a few.
For Alan Jackson, some of his best hits are some of his earlier hits. He was my entire childhood for a long time. But you should listen to Chasin' That Neon Rainbow, Chattahoochee, Livin' On Love, She's Got The Rhythm(And I Got The Blues), Tall, Tall Trees and Little Bitty. Some of my favorites from Alan.
Absolutely. He's SO good. Love him! But also, Bailey Zimmerman's Rock and a Hard Place came on the radio and since AB loves Chris Stapleton so much, he need to listen to Bailey.
Jimmy Buffet fans are known as "Parrot Heads". His music is a little country and a little rock with a dash of island influence thrown in. "Margaretaville" is highly suggested as Jimmy Buffet's opening act.
Took me a while to understand but I always wondered why you won’t see Jimmy Buffet on a weekend. He says he works just like everybody else and deserves to have the weekend off.
Jimmy has many hits but his main thing is he is one of the top box office draws for his live shows. VERY loyal fan base. He celebrates the ocean or beach in many of his songs.
Remember when, where were you, little bitty; livin on love; Chattahoochie, gone country, and murder on music row, are some great ones but he has a ton of hits
Jimmy Buffett is an absolute legend! Of course, I’ve been a parrot head (Jimmy Buffett fan) for 40 years so I’m sure I’m a bit biased. Give him a listen. Songs like Margaritaville, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Manana, Tin Cup Chalice, The Devil I know, Book on a Shelf, Who Gets to Live Like This, Delaney Talks to Statues, A Pirate Looks at 40, Cussin Island, Last Mango in Paris and so many more. He’s got hundreds of songs in his catalogue with dozens of albums. His music will put you in a totally chill mood. Take a pick of any of these songs and you’ll end up down the Buffett rabbit hole.

It would be a great tribute to him if a song reaction on this one was posted. The song isn't autobiographical though he did mention when he wrote it, he factored in his then recent experience of being turned down in the music business so many times before he made it and he does love his dogs. While Jimmy had fanatical fans (known as parrotheads) for those who knew him, he was unpopular with so many people into mainstream music because he only had 1 Top 10 hit. There are few artists with 10+ or 20+ truly great songs in their discography. Though only 1 hit the Top 10, this man has literally written and recorded 100+ songs that are reaction-worthy. Death of an Unpopular Poet is one example of an obscure and awesome song that only a real Jimmy Buffett fan would even be aware exists. Loved that guy. Fins up. You will be greatly missed Jimmy! RIP brother.
All you need to know about Mr. Buffett... Business wise: He basically turned one song from 1977 into a 3/4 of a BILLION dollar (that's Billion with a 'B') Empire today. I see that you have watched 'Remember when' by Alan also. For another fun summer vibe song like this, check out 'Chattahoochee' & for an amazing powerful song, check out 'Where were you when the world stopped turning' which he wrote immediately after 9/11. Lyrics to Jimmy Buffett's 1973 song: Death of an Unpopular Poet:
(This somber, sad, even reverent song seem apropos)
I once knew a poet, Who lived before his time
He and his dog Spooner, Would listen while he'd rhyme
Words to make you happy, Words to make you cry
Then one day the poet suddenly did die
But he left behind a closet, Filled with verse and rhyme
And through some strange transaction, One was printed in the Times
And everybody's searchin', For the king of undergound
Well they found him down in Florida, With a tombstone for a crown
Everybody knows a line, From his book that cost four ninety-nine
I wonder if he knows he's doin', Quite this fine
'Cause his books are all best sellers, And his poems were turned to song
Had his brother on a talk show, Though they never got along
And now he's called immortal, Yes he's even taught in school
They say he used his talents, A most proficient tool
But he left all of his royalties, To Spooner his ol' hound
Growin' old on steak and bacon, In a doghouse ten feet 'round
And everybody wonders, Did he really lose his mind
No he was just a poet , who lived before his time
He was just a poet, who lived before his time
