If you even look at the offices under discussion as they are seen operating in the Bible, you can see that Apostles are missionaries. They plant churches and convert the lost. They appoint elders, and teach scriptural doctrine. I don't see much "Equipping" going on in the Bible.
Based on his reading of 1 corinthians 9:1-2, it looks like Piper doesn't believe apostles are for now. Although personally I think Piper (along with Calvin and Luther) were/are all apostles for Christ. Commissioned with a special assignment to teach the world and specifically the church, about aspects of God which have been lost/forgotten over the centuries.
Piper is a shepherd of the church who preaches and teaches the Word. I don't believe in so called modern prophets or apostles because prophets and apostles in the Bible were foundational for the beginning of the Church.

@@zarraga619 I think there is a confusion... foundational means the beginning...of the Church...the Bible says the church was built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets. So since the church has been established now it is the role of the shepherds to equip God's people. Yes it is for the benefit of the saints (God's people), as written in Ephesians 4
@@joedyms I thought foundation is to laid important doctrine like grace, gospel, faith, truth etc which the apostle and prophet can only laid for the church. Then the pastor teacher teaches on that truth of what the foundation was laid.
