    Great video man, loved the design breakdown at the beginning

    Creativity is all about going with the flow and yes, sometimes pivoting. Good recovery. The table turned out better in the end.

      I wholeheartedly agree. Nothing has taught me more humility and flexibility than experiences like I had in this project. Thanks for watching and glad you like the end product!

      My friend learning to accept your mistakes and learn from them is the best skill you can learn in life and as a woodworker. It’s humbling but I think makes us better people in the end. Thanks for watching!

    Seeing the quality of your video and woodworking, I was surprised how small your channel is (currently). But I‘m sure that‘ll change soon enough. Keep up the great work!

    You made the right choice. Good end product. In the beginning of the video with the epoxy. Kinda short cut it. I do the same. Trying to break that habit cuz it just takes longer to fix it. Thank you for your content. We need more when you get the chance.

    Great table, love it. Thanks for putting the speed when using the bandsaw as many don't and it's misleading to beginners how long it actually takes 😊

    • @sturdyboneswoodworking
      @sturdyboneswoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah absolutely. It can definitely be misleading and make it look like band saw cuts are a breeze. Which they’re not bad really unless you’re resawing which takes waaaay longer. Thanks for watching!

    Cameron, your Sturdy Bones Woodworking channel is quickly becoming a favorite.
    Outstanding job storytelling balanced with usable tips and real-life "learning opportunities". Loved the design animation at the beginning and totally support the adjustments as you set the slab in place.
    Looking forward to the next release.

    • @sturdyboneswoodworking
      @sturdyboneswoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaha. Well she’s definitely right in this case, per usual. But I think it won’t be long before I’ll be able to justify a little CNC to make my templates. The hard sell is that my friend Warner I mentioned in the video has a 10x5 shop bot and he could easily cut out what I need. I just need to plan well enough to have them all designed first.

    Very handsome..removing the live edge added a contemporary appearance and the contrast between base and top is my favorite aspect..unsure why red oak is dissed, as your final product will enhance any room..thanks for sharing!

    • @sturdyboneswoodworking
      @sturdyboneswoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m mostly joking about red oak but it’s an easy species to pick on as I really do think the color is far less appealing than many others and requires a lot of extra work to make it look great, versus just putting a clear finish on it.

    Another great video! I picked up my tiny Delta bandsaw for $40 and I really like it. Video quality is great and so is the commentary. Oh and you can use the carving disc to take off some epoxy.

      Thanks so much! Yeah I love my little band saw. $50 used and a $20 Timberwolf blade and that thing works great for little things like that. I’ll remember that next time I need to clean up another big epoxy mess! 🤣

    Another solution to the raking live edge would have been to flip the top over so that the narrow edge was to the top & then cut the two end edges to a similar angle, so you'd only see a fine line when looking down

    • @sturdyboneswoodworking
      @sturdyboneswoodworking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Yes that is a good consideration. I thought about it for that exact reason but since I had screwed that plate earlier into the bottom there were still some pretty deep holes that would have shown up, and the bottom was also not as attractive as the top. Well as attractive as that even was for red oak.

    Three thoughts: 1. The dramatized sobbing at 15:19 cracked me up. 2. I agree, it was ugly and the final product was better, beautiful really. I think this has to do with the direction of the bevel on the natural edge, which made it look heavy. Reversed, as in the final table, it looks lighter, more in line with the floating design. 3. Why do you bad mouth red oak? A suggestion for the bottom would be to ebonize the red oak with iron, instead of staining. This can look quite spectacular, and be quite black while still maintaining a clear sense of grain. Can be done with red oak and rusty nail water, or you can be more precise and get deeper black by combining a tannic acid pre-wash with a ferric chloride solution stain. You can fine tune the concentration of those two to fine tune the outcome.

    • @sturdyboneswoodworking
      @sturdyboneswoodworking  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for watching and for your thoughts on #1-2! I think you’re right about the direction of the live edge. As for red oak, I’m mostly joking but generally I just don’t like the pinkish color. It’s a fine wood to work with, but there are more enjoyable species in my opinion, and if I’m going to be inclined to alter the color, I’d generally rather pass and use something that’ll just look good with a clear finish. I’ve experimented with ebonization and tannic pre-wash before and it’s a lot of fun. Should probably mess with it more. Thanks again!!

    I think the reason why you hated that slab is the downslope of the life edge. At least, that is my take on it. I like uplifting stuff.

    • @sturdyboneswoodworking
      @sturdyboneswoodworking  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha. I see what you did there. But I also agree with you. I think it was also that it only was live edge on one side. It felt forced instead of natural to treat it as a live edge. Either way I love how it turned out (and so does the happy customer who bought it) 😁! Thanks for watching too!

    I enjoyed your video. I picked up a 10 ft by 27-in or so live edge slab of purple heart. I had all these wonderful ideas for a waterfall coffee table. Miters are cut, the figure in this piece is gorgeous. I absolutely hate the way it looks! Sitting here looking at it waiting for some inspiration to make it something beautiful. Live edge might not be my thing.

      Hahaha. To be fair she isn’t opposed to having one. Just that it’s another big learning curve and time investment. But then again so is making every routing template by hand, so…I guess right now we’ll enjoy “walking before running”
