A man after my own heart - thanks for sharing, a joy to watch✌️💜👍😊
I like Chivers' 0-16.5 kits too.
I also love wagon building, but sadly health and time has hampered such. I was lucky enough to have articles published on my 7mm kit built 16T Minerals and 24.5T "White Elephant" Minerals.
My weathering is akin to yours in many ways. I also try to add odd axle boxes, items in primed paint etc etc

Chivers did this kit years ago and Parkside still do this one under the Peco label. Using the available kits and some parts from others, various different diagrams can be built, not just the 21t minerals in this video, also the 16t versions, the 27t iron ore/ chalk tippler and the various versions of the 12t BR std van plus the various ex big four vans that survived to the TOPS era. Then there is the various civil engineers wagons which were modified or even rebuilt as time went on.
The wagon books authored by David Larkin and the Late Don Rowland are a mine of information on this subject.

This kit is the Welded body hand brake only variant and brand new to the Chivers range. In the Past they did the vacuum braked version with top flaps to side doors. Now back in production.
The Parkside (Peco) kit is the Riveted version, nice kit but a bit trickier to assemble than than this one.
You're right, the books by both authors are an invaluable source of information 👍

I think the paint experiment worked very well. Very authentic looking in the end result.

Wasn't convinced until the weather obliterated most of it!! Phew! 😅

Afternoon Mr train man. That’s awesome 👏🏻 and they turned it looking fantastic and how they looked in the real railway 👍🏻 I can remember then trundling threw Woodley junction when I was a little boy in 70s That 31 pulling them was just how I remember freight trains when I was a mad train spotter 🤣

Probably should've been a 37 given the wagon type and region they were most associated with - South Wales!
But its been a while since I run a 31 so.....
A lot of my spotting was in the 70's, although I wasn't very good at it 😬
Unlike my mate Bryan who's only missed a handful of BR locos!! The first couple of very early accident damaged withdrawals and some 08's that went early on too.
Back to wiring again now 😞 🙄😅😂👍

They are amazing Nigel. I was pleased with my rake of 21/24.5 ton wagons which I weathered using one of your earlier methods but this lot take it to a whole new horizon

I've got a rake of those to build, some time in the future!!

Have you experimented with Citadel colour Technical Typhus Corrosion yet? You use it after primer and before base coat for real rusty stuff.
Adds a nice texture to pick up with dry brushing.

A product that I'm yet to sample...

I'm not very good at kit building - £10 for a wagon though can't be argued with especially if you're willing to do a bit of work yourself - as for the 'dip & dab' sponge method, I use it often and it does work well even in reverse , looking good squire!

I would have put spring loaded buffers on and three link couplings make them more realistic Bill

I have bought this kit on your recommendation... And it's bloody lush. There is a bit of flash... Maybe now the moulds are wearing, but it is very, very, very well made.

Wow. Thats pretty comprehensive, and an excellent result. 👍👍👍👍. I did a similar project some years ago with Hornby minerals. One sided brakes, various axlebox covers, buffers ect. Very satisfying.

Great stuff thank you for sharing! Loved this series and your approach to building, modifying, painting & weathering, have learned a lot from you, easily one of my favourite TH-camrs.
Trying to do a similar project with 16t mineral wagons and the Larkin Books are invaluable.
Looking forward to the next video!

Airfix (Dapol) were cutting edge kits back in the day and still hold their own if detailed up a bit 👍
