ASWAD 1979-1985 were/are The greatest Live reggae band ... EVER .... Sat Sept 3, 2022 : Rest in peace to the Mighty DRUMMIE ZEB .... the 2nd greatest drummer in Reggae music ... plus .. he sang some of the best songs of his band's catalog ... THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC that changed my life ... for the better
Oh mate I was a punky type back in the day. I saw some well cool gigs at the Meanwhile Gardens but that Aswad gig that became the Live and Direct album will always have a special place in my heart. 😉
I was standing in the crowd on this fine glorious day,After ASWAD finished playing they came down into the crowd,just so happens they came down & stood next to me:).it was a fantastic day.
Was at Sunsplash 85 and it was a defining moment in my musical education...Aswad then were a force to be reckoned with...I drew their Lion logo on the wood chip wallpaper of my council house bedroom...my Mum wasn't too happy...'Live and Direct' will always be my number one live album of all time !

@@98266paul Brinsle’s voice I think is what carried the group rootz sound. Zeb has a nice voice but not rootzy. When they got commercial or crossover the original flavor was gone.
This is a fab song. Love the way they incorporate the brass section into Reggae. I think Burning Spear were first to do this? Turns it into a different dimension.
