We were on the North pier the day before you filmed this. Wife and kids made a beeline for the carousel. They love it. We put padlocks on the fence section before the carousel a few years ago. Gone now. You can see some there when you were looking at the train. They want to put new ones on again. Frowned upon I know

The North pier is my favourite, I love a good promenade. We walked round every day when we stayed, apart from one when the wind was a bit scary. Loved the carousel too even though I was the only adult on it. The theatre was sadly closed.

Hi Jane, another great video, the North Pier jetty got washed away in a severe storm on Christmas Eve 1997, not as far back as you'd think 😊

Hi Jane got a good day here too today ,20 deg, sun ,cloud and a breeze, I'm sat on garden chilling and doing my crossword,thanks this takes me back, went to see sooty with our daughter 45 years ago at Rotherham Civic theatre,then again the new sooty man about 7 years ago, had photos taken with him and sooty, granddaughter loved it.
Piers are ok to walk on when tide is out, dont like seeing the sea through the gaps 😮. Once sat in the bar at the end of the pier and a young Lenny Henry walked in and said hello, he was at the theatre,long time ago. thanks for the memories, have a great afternoon bye for now 😊x

This video was thought provoking. The loss of the jetty which I remember with a helicopter landing pad offering joy rides was a surprise when I saw it gone.
The storm must have been horrendous.
The comparative fragility of the helter skelter ride and the vast area of glass panes in the open entertainment area must be a constant worry for the owners every time a red weather warning is issued by the met office.
I used to enjoy the classical music played through the loudspeakers on all the lampposts as I walked along the pier decades ago. The North Pier is my favourite and I hope it can stay as traditional as possible just like another pier I like so much at Cleveden.
The substructure of that pier is made of re-purposed narrow gauge railway lines!
My concern is that with the now very fast evolution of climate change the pier structures are increasingly at risk. Imagine if the huge vessel grounded at Cleveleys had been blown as far as Blackpool?

Trouble with crane machines is that they are programmed to only let people win after a set number of tries. That's why the toy falls off the crane even when you have got it, unless you are lucky!
