As a white woman I guarantee you that we don't do it because we want to be black or because we want to steal it from you.
We do it because it's a comfortable and protective style that also looks beautiful at the same time.
Here are some reasons why I wear box braids as a white woman:
    1. It helps me see & reach my scalp to oil it.its all nicely separated and I can oil every section. (for growth)
    2. When a white person puts oil in their hair it makes us look like we haven't washed our hair for months. Our hair does not absorb or rather the oil doesn't blend as good as someone with curly hair. It just looks wet and oily. Box braids help to hide that
    3. Box braids also allow me to hide a bad haircut, a bad dye job or damage.
    4. My hair is super freezy so it helps hide that as well and it's perfect for rainy days and vacations at the beach or humid weather!
    5. Its a protective hairstyle. So no damage!
    6. I don't need to wonder how to style my hair every single day... It already us!
    7. Its out of my face, especially when you want to wear a lip gloss on a windy day its very handy! Straight hair literally goes right in your mouth lol
    8. It's just comfortable! I don't have to do anything!!!!
Some misconceptions about white people wearing box braids:
    1. That we will go bald - only if the extensions are too big and heavy or if the knot up top is done too tight then yes, obviously but most of the time we do the opposite of that or the hairstylist will do the opposite to suit our hair type!
I've worn box braids for a year now and my hair is thicker and longer than what I've started with. I had a terrible bleach job last year and box braids saved me!!!
    History:
If you Google Bulgarian or tibetian braids you will see that they are similar to box braids with the exception that it doesn't start from the scalp and isn't separated neatly.
My family and ancestors would add hair from their horse not only for leght and thickness but also because horses are sacret animals in our culture. We put gold coins in our hair for wealth and protection from bad spirits. And wrap our scalp with scarfs for even more protection from the sun, because our people used to work outside in the fields and garden 24/7

Awesome job!❤ I'm Caucasian and my college roommate was African-American. She taught me how to do her hair because she couldn't afford to pay to have it done professionally. I did it for years and even did several other young ladies hair during that time as well. When I would do Caucasian hair I noticed a lot of issues that you are having. I had to experiment quite a bit. I added rubber bands throughout the bottom to keep the ends from slipping out before I was able to seal the hair. I also put some mousse in their hair to help. ❤

the crazys this is a very VERY late reply and I'm aware as I'm only finding this video now you see the problem is many ppl or let's say some girls women whoever from the black community like me believe that braids are meant for black people's type of curly coily hair because our hair texture is very different from other races and it's true tbh braids don't really suit white ppl but it depends on the style or colour I suppose because white ppls hair or other races hair is very different as I stated and if they wanna take out the braids it might mean hair loss or something else that's why I don't advise other races to get braids like this and also are they prepared to sit in a chair for 6 hours + or so idk I got my braids done today and it hurt like hell but it's worth it because my braids embrace my African / Nigerian family culture I hope this helped you have a better understanding

@@CarrieJo0801 also, I had another look at your technique, and regarding the slippage issue, what I've found works (great) with that, is splitting HER hair from the very beginning. If u keep her whole section in one leg, it will easily slip. If u use a method that divides it into 2, or better yet, THREE, you will avoid slippage altogether. And regarding my previous suggestion, u can use Jam, or Got2Be glue, Gorilla Snot or something similar, but bear in mind, as soon as u dip them, u will be washing away alot of the product and the strays WILL creep back out. Water is NOT your friend when you braid straight hair! Hope this helps.

As a woman with fine hair, it takes roughly 8+hrs to do mine in box braids. I like the funky colors for mine and usually they stay about a month give or take. I think u did a good job. Your right, the ends like to poke thru the braid. After the braids are dipped, I go over each braid when I get home and I first spray them with leave in conditioner and then gel each strand if my hair is actin crazy. I think the braids turned out beautifully.

Actually it is more of a Hollywood thing to have the larger braids on Viking women. They needed tight smaller braids during battle that stated out of the way. They tended to have cornrows or box braids or even dreads. Granted that’s not what they would have called them.

Just don’t do them super tight at the roots and make sure the hair you’re braiding can hold the weight of the extensions. Watch for redness in the scalp or broken hair at the roots. That will help tell you if they are too tight or if there is too much weight.

    Bro listen-
Box braids aren’t just for black ppl let me explain.
Yes they did originate in Africa but it’s also been shown to originate in parts of Europe as well. For example I’m Egyptian and dreadlocks and braids also originated there. Yes we did have mostly curly/wavy hair but some of us like myself have mostly straight hair. As you can see in the video the girl is white and she doesn’t have to go so far and do so much to braid it. All it is is simply applying some product and braiding. In my opinion if your hair can do it naturally then do whatever tf u want it doesn’t matter what people think. If you have hair then pretty much any type will braid. It’s a very beautiful style and it doesn’t BELONG to anybody specifically.

It is great❤️ i just wanted to ask you a question... I am a white woman and I do love black people and their culture. I have also box braids but i was so not sure if i should have them. Because i was afraid if black women would be mad at me... Because i read some blogs where they say that black women hate when white women get box braid... What is your opinion? Best regards and love❤️

I'm a black girl and I say you can wear it. People just want something to cry about because they hate white people

Every culture has worn rows of small braids or dreads in their hair. Please don’t buy in to this cultural appropriation propaganda. Don’t let anyone tell you not to wear your hair the way you want to wear it. White womenswear box braids for the same reason as any other race. It’s a protective, easy hairstyle.

I want to do this so badly but don’t know where to get affordable extensions. Can you cut hair off a wig and use them as extensions? LOL

These took me like 6 hours but that’s because I’m an amateur. A professional could knock it out much quicker

THanks for making this video i've gotten box braids done before and now have ddreadlocks. Then I got slammed with people in comments saying white people shouldnt wear traditionally black hairstyles as its cultuye appropriation and o get that. A black person hair was shamed and ridiculed for so long in history that it's a sense of pride to be proud of your heritage and hair.
Buttttt. If white people cant imitate black hair styles, by that same logic, black people shouldnt imitate white hair styles by wearing wigs that look like caucasian hair..y'know? When you put it that way, it sounds a little silly.
And also, Vikings were first documented to have dreads.
Theres no ONE hair style that should be restricted to one race.

Do you actually have an afro though...or just frizzy/curly Caucasian hair? Because there is such a thing as curly Caucasian texture hair...it's a common trait.
