John C. Farina: This story saved my life - I first read it in Jr, High, and many years later (1971) found myself in the Ecuadorean Jungle working with the Peace Corps. My hut was 'attacked' 3 times over a 5-day period, as I was apparently located on their main highway. Luckily I had several containers full of kerosene for cooking, and I was able to fight them off by establishing a perimeter with a hoe and poring kerosene and lighting it, similar as described in the story. When I went into 'town' 5 days later to refill on kerosene, I found out that everyone - all 50 of them - in a 5km area had left and recently returned !! And they were quite surprised I was still alive...
I first read this story in a library at Ibadan,Nigeria in 1981.I never came across it since then until now!II NEVER FORGOT IT!!...What a gripping MASTERPIECE!!!
When is some savvy film-maker going to produce this masterpiece? It is an absolute classic that, because of it's content, lends itself perfectly to CGI. First read as a teen, this is one story I've never forgotten. It would be a smash at the box office!

Any movie would pale in comparison to the short story...as all movies are inferior in this day and age to the novels from which they come.....Movies are today for shock value, with little acting talent, and zero artistry... what is known as visual diarrhea.. Enjoy the radio...a picture you have hear to imagine....
When i was a fourth grader, our class had to do a report on this story. I was struggling with writing down the report,and by the 5th-6th sheet of paper, ended up writing my own story based on the ants perspective. I got an A! 🏆🏁🏆
The Naked Jungle, with Charlton Heston, is based on the original story. I saw the movie when I was a kid. Even though it''s quite different from the Suspense drama it's a really good movie.

That's an interesting idea. What was the perspective of the ant?
The Edge of Nightfall I wrote it from the point of view that the farmers were the real invaders, and the ants were defending their territory. 😃
Very imaginative. Could be an interesting horror movie, or horrors-of-war movie.
