Hi! Moros were known to be great warriors so you may look into the different weapons that they used and the kind of ships they were able to build at that time for the exact details about their material culture.
Personally, it was never acceptable back then. Try to imagine living peacefully in a village and suddenly your home were raided and the next thing you know you are being sold like cattle and horses. On the otherhand slavery was a trend back then and had been a way of life to different culture and civilizations around the world. People accepted it as a norm and lived with it for centuries until it was outlawed. Unfortunately, it still happens today in the form of illegal recruitment and human trafficking. They take advantage on poor people by promising high paying jobs abroad but once they got there, they were forced to do other abhorrent things. The difference right now is that this is treated as illegal and there are already policies respecting and protecting human rights which intends to stop and criminalize slavery or human trafficking.

Even before the Spanish conquest ,slave raiding was practice , during the early founding of rajahnate of cebu by a minor prince of chola dynasty of india they fought these raiders which they countered by scorched earth policy burning the coastal village in cebu to deprivedthe raiders of the loot and slaves the name cebu came from original word sugbo meaning burned down

They don't give enough concentration on the other places that gives us the fact that those occurrence lead to many different aspects of our Philippine history. This article will take you back in time and experience how Zamboanga's old days is rich and meaningful In the late 12th or early 13th century, Zamboanga was founded. Subanens were the early people of Zamboanga. They were of Malay origin who came at about 6,000 to 2,500 years ago. Subanen people name it "Sung Lupa" which means "pointed land" and they called Pasonanca "Nawan" meaning "future" where they establish. They also have a leader. A Subano leader is like a Barangay Captain nowadays. His leadership is in terms of the number of families residing under his dominion. Zamboanga City was also a site of the Spanish settlement and garrison on La Caldera which is now called Barrio Recodo in 1969. This place also served as a military outpost, to protect the area from foreign invaders and Moro pirates. Upon the consent of King Philip IV, Zamboanga became the main headquarters of the Spaniards in June 23,1635 and the Spanish officialy founded the city . The Zamboanga fortress which is known as Fort Pilar were approved to build by a governor general from Spain to forestall enemies in Mindanao like Moro Pirates and other foreign invaders. The name "Zamboanga" provides an interesting historical background. This was called "Jambangan" by the early Malay settlers which means Land of Flowers. The Samals and Badjaos also came here with their feil vintas and they were confused with the word "Jambangan" with "Samboangan" which came from the word "Sabuan ", the wooden pole used to help push their Vintas in Shallow watersor to tie them for anchorqage purposes. The word "Samboangan" was found difficult to pronounce by Spaniards. So, this was preferably called "Zamboanga". This place was also considered as the center of barter trading among Chinese, Malays and the native Tausugs, Samals, Subanens and the Badjaos as early as 13th and 14th centuries. The introduction of Islam was lead by Mukdum,Rayah Baginda and Abu-Bakr. They are an Arab missionaries and teaches of Sulu reached the shore of Sulu at about 1480 to 1490.The one who introduced Islam in Cotabato was Sherif Kabungsuan and it begun to spread through Mindanao including Zamboanga . There were new culture ,some natives converted to Islamism while others retreated to mountains and remain pagans. The introduction of Christianity begun when Spaniard built their first fort in La Caldera (presently Recodo). At first it was a wooden palisade but later reconstructed with stone in 1593. The first conversion of Christianity could have taken place here among the Sama-Lutaos and the Subanen who were staying with the vicinity of the Spanish settlement.

Maraming salamat.
