Some facebook groups are posting some games/challenges to have fun or to exercise their brain. Unfortunately, few of them involve in Mathematics. However, a lot of answers were incorrect, including the answer of the one who posted that challenge/game. Base in my estimation, 2-3 out of 10 users have got the correct answer.
PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction), GEMDAS (G is for Groupings), or BODMAS (Brackets, Of/Order, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction) is a rule that we need in everyday life. It is an order of operations when we evaluate such operations like; ×, ÷, ＋, －, with groupings, and exponents. Yet, BODMAS has an additional operation, which is square root (√) in Of/Order. Not only the √ is a part of Of/Order in BODMAS, but exponent also. It is important to know this because we will apply this everyday. Especially in junior high, senior high, and college. In solving PEMDAS, GROUPINGS, and BODMAS, you will start from left to right, because if you start from the opposite way, your answer will be incorrect.
RULE OF SOLVING PEMDAS, GEMDAS, and BODMAS
・Parenthesis; Groupings; Brackets
・Exponents; Exponents; Of/Order
・Multiplication or Division/ Division or Multiplication
・Addition or Subtraction/ Subtraction or Addition
First of all, you will start from Groupings (Parenthesis or Brackets). Simplify it before moving to the next rule. Next, if you already simplify the Grouping and if it has an exponent, simplify it. Solve for square root also if it has one. Then, in multiplication and division, one of them can start, but it must be left to right. For instance, solving for 8÷4＋5×3, the division is in the beginning, and the multiplication is at the end. In order to get the correct answer, start with division, then multiplication and add them up.

Simplify first the square root then solve multiplication and division (left to right) and lastly, do the last rule; add or substract from left to right).

It read as Php 50.00＋Php 20.00＋Php 0.05×4＋Php 0.25×4＋Php 0.10×2 (in case you would ask, “How did you get 4 and 2?” It is because 5 centavo, and 25 centavo has 4 coins, hence I multiplied with 4. Same with the 10 centavo, I multiplied with 2). First, you will apply 3rd rule (Multiplication or Division).
Php 50.00＋Php 20.00＋Php 0.20＋Php 1.00＋Php 0.20
Then you will apply the 4th rule (Addition or Subtraction) from left to right.
Therefore, I have Php 71.40 and if you did left to right exactly without following the rules, it is simply your answer is incorrect.
PEMDAS, GEMDAS, BODMAS, or whatsoever it called, they are still the same. It is important in our lives, due the fact that we apply it everyday. They have 4 rules that needs to simplify: 1st rule is the groupings, which contains Parenthesis and Brackets, 2nd rule is the Of/Order, which contains Exponents and Square roots, 3rd rule is the multiplication and division (any can be first), and 4th rule, addition and subtraction (any can be first). It must be simplify from left to right in order to get the correct answer. Otherwise, you will get the incorrect answer.
