    yes nice, i soldered my internal resistors to make it work, easy, then with your help i'm brightening the readout and putting it into a 1992 BMW 325is, i like the features of this GM mirror

    Thank you, Lincoln, for a very helpful and comprehensive mod. It is exactly what I was looking to do with my 2007 Tacoma. Just a brilliant and very inexpensive solution.
    I picked up the "261" model of the mirror. Very similar to the model 177, but has a 16 wire connecter instead of a 7. Do you happen to know if the pink wire is still the hot wire? Or can you point me toward a wiring layout that breaks down the wire colors and what they do for the model 261? I was hoping they were the same, but I'm afraid to experiment in case I attach the hot wire from the battery to the wrong contact in the mirror and fry the electronics! Million de Gracias, Senor! Muy agradecido por su ayuda!

    Thanks!
    I was wondering if the mounting methods (the clipping and the screwing) is compatible with each other. But yes :)

      it was not bad,
      just time consuming to run the wiring in a clean way 🙂👍

    Hello Lincoln - the lime green wire : You tied that to power, but doesn't that mean that the mirror will never dim? I'm confused.
    I tied both the pink and the lime green to power, and it won't dim when I expose the reflective-side of the mirror sensor to light. The mirror stays bright. Shouldn't it auto dim when bright lights are behind you?

    • @Informed104
      @Informed104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So yes, the Red/White wire down behind the kick plate is the reverse lights wire. I tied the lime green wire into the red/white wire using a T-connection solder joint. I cut a slit into the red/white wire, dug out the copper wire and soldered the lime green wire to it. I insulated the connection using 3 different pieces of shrink tube, covered with hot glue at the joint.
      When I shift into reverse, the lime green wire is supplied with 12 volts, and overrides the mirror's auto - dimming feature, giving a clear rear view, regardless of the intensity of bright light behind the truck.

    Lincoln - to test the mirror, I just attached the pink to the battery positive, and the black to the body, and when the compass/temp didn't light, I tried the negative terminal. Still, no light.
    I thought it might be a problem with the mirror. I returned the GNTX 261, and found a GNTX 177. Tried to test it, and had the same problem. So, I ask how you connected the mirror.
    Another question - do you have to hook up the sensor to the mirror, to get the mirror to light up? Could that be the problem?

    • @LincolnMaxnCo

      The way I wired the mirror was:
      Pink +,
      black - (negative)
      I connected everything together as shown on the video.
      If I were you I would also connect the sensor to see if that makes a difference.
      I ended up returning the first mirror because it did not work.
      Towards the end of the video I showed a picture of the wiring diagram I used.
      For my second mirror I ended up testing it at the salvage yard to make sure it worked.
      I hope you get it sorted out 👍

      @@LincolnMaxnCo Thanks for the advice. I did as you had suggested, and hooked up the temp sensor, still no lights (power on green light, or blue comp/temp). Scraped and used contact cleaner to clean contacts, verified continuity for each wire. Used the PINK wire (pin 1) to POS terminal, and the BLACK wire (pin 2) to bare metal in the body. That didn't work, so I attached it to the NEG terminal on the battery. No lights.
      One question: when you tested the mirror did you attach the black wire (from the connector) to the NEG battery terminal, or to bare metal in the body? I tried both, but no difference. Just wanted to make sure I didn't fry anything.

      You're welcome
      I attached the ground wire to a verified ground on the body, ( I showed the location on the video )
      If the mirror is not powering up, it is very likely that it could be a bad mirror.

    • @Informed104
      @Informed104 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LincolnMaxnCo Thanks for being really patient with me, Lincoln. I know this all sounds incredibly stupid. About the ground, yes, in the final wiring to the truck, I did see that you attached it to the body for ground. But, in the initial testing that you did, when the mirror was on the little table, I couldn't be sure if you just attached the black wire to the *body for Ground*, or to the *NEG battery post*.
      Before I leave the salvage yard, I need to test the mirror using a battery on the bench. That's why I'm asking about using the battery post. I know how stupid this question sounds, but do you know if I can use the NEG battery post for a Ground, to test the mirror? Will that hurt the electronics inside the mirror?
      It's just that I've gone through two different mirrors that haven't worked, and I'm paranoid that I'm doing something wrong to ruin the mirror's electronics. Really, really sorry for the dumb question!

    • @Informed104
      @Informed104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LincolnMaxnCo Success! After much searching through a couple of salvage yards, I found a working GNTX 177 auto dim, compass /temp 2-line display mirror, that actually works!
      My concerns about ruining the mirror were unfounded. Either ground worked, and the working mirror was verified by simply hooking up pink to POS terminal post and black to NEG terminal post on the standalone battery.
      The other mirrors did not work, and I suspect it just requires re- flowing the solder on the resistors on the PCBs inside the mirror.

    Disculpa la pregunta lincon pero el cable de la reversa no entiendo para que sirve si me lo pudieras explicar en español te lo agradecería porque no quiero dejarlo mal instalado en mi tacoma

    • @LincolnMaxnCo

      Saludos
      Por lo que lei, el cable sirve para que si pones la camioneta en reversa, que el espejo no se ponga oscuro aunque tengas una luz fuerte atras, para que puedas ver mejor.
      Tambien lei que hay personas que lo han instalado sin conectar el cable de reversa y dicen que les trabajo bien.
      En mi caso, cuando no conecte el cable inicialmente, el espejo se me ponia oscuro, luego connecte el cable al "+" positivo y el espejo se aclaro como lo mostre en el video.
      Espero que me entiendas y que lo puedas hacer 👍
