    Hi Nice Video. I think the best Portable Recorder is the Zoom F3. It´s so compact, fast to start up, no worry about gain setting. When I´m out to record Nature Sounds or do my Rain Walk Videos, I´ve never needed more than more Channels.
    Have a great Day :)

      I still haven't used one! Possibly a purchase when I'm back in the UK for some long hikes. I mainly use my Tascam DR100 mk3 on a day to day basis

    Those two mics are PERFECT for a blimp. Have two LC’s in my blimp, these would be perfect.

      I've used these in a blimp a while back for some wind recordings. Worked great! I am going to get some rycote BBGs when I'm back in the UK so will probably have a video on that too

    Thanks for the credit on the Joby stereo bar. This was actually a V2 iteration I came up with, the first effort used a macro photography dual arm bracket. Same kind of design but V1 was more bulky. The Joby version is way more compact and lightweight. Glad to see other folks using the same design!

    • @rarefindssound
      @rarefindssound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem! It's a great design. Especially for packing into awkwardly shaped spaces in backpacks as you can bend and manipulate it a bit. It's also really cheap and affordable

      I have been thinking about the perfect travel rig for a week now (I am going to iceland in november) and I have been scouting everything thomann has and also ended up with the idea of using on of their goosenecks. So seeing this video is soo great!
      I wonder if the normal metal goosenecks produce to much noise, do you have any experience with that?

    If I put a shotgun or a pencil condenser at centre and a 90 degree adaptor with pencil condenser on both side, can it be a MS with focused sound at front, not sure what name is that but can this be good surround sound setup, or F3 with just 2 mics point to left and right with 90 degree adaptor, the front and back won't be so clear isn't it? But I see there is TH-camr musicians just use their syntheave machine like the one from Teenage Engineering and Polyend to sample sounds and make music direct from it without post processing first bad also a popular song was recorded with iPhone build in mic too, if they can make music from these mics, do we really need to spend and get these expensive high end dedicated mic?

  • @rarefindssound
    @rarefindssound  ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think joshgledhillaudio on Instagram has solved the quirk with the KZ Earphones and the Zoom F6.
    We reckon it's the mic built into the headphones making it mono when it's twisted on the input. You are able to buy ones with or without the mic. So possibly get them without!

    Hi friend, thanks for the very fine videos!!
    I own the F6 and I have also noticed this strange mono/stereo-thingy when twisting the headphone jack (of my DT770 headphones). Just started using the F6, since I just bought it and this is a bit disappointing... Do you have any updates on this, on your side? Maybe the jack plug is slightly bended on my phones?

    • @rarefindssound
      @rarefindssound  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm interesting. We thought it might have been because of the microphone on my headphones. But now I'm not so sure haha

    Cool. Great little portable rig you got there. Covers all bases and also pretty small to carry around. These days I only take out my F3 and the Usi's, and I'm usually OK. Great to see anyway. It's always nice to lust after more gear, but it seems like you go tit figured and you're happy with what you have. I keep seeing recommendations for those KZ headphones too, so I may order some today from Amazon. Can't really complain at 20 quid. The only thing I never understood when I look at the KZ range, it seems like many different companies produce them. Are yours the CCA model ? Does it even matter ? I guess the working are all the same, but branded differently.

    • @rarefindssound
      @rarefindssound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah like you I find I take out my smaller recorder (Tascam DR100) most of the time then go back to a location with the zoom if the sound is great to record it again.
      I'm not sure on the KZ retailers. I bought mine from Yinyoo Store on Amazon and mine are the ZSN model. I think the different letters correspond to the colour of them, but I could be wrong.
      Also, I think joshgledhillaudio on Instagram has solved the quirk with them not being stereo. We reckon it's the mic built into the headphones as you can buy ones with or without the mic. So could be something to have in mind if you do purchase some!

    By covering the rycote mount with the windscreen you are killing a lot of the shock absorption. The mic should be free to move in the mount, which means only the mic should be touching the bendy part.

    • @rarefindssound
      @rarefindssound  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Heya Paul. Yes not ideal for shock absorbing but the only way for the wind cover to stay on securely. I'll probably invest in some rycote BBGs or something similar when I'm back in the UK

      But without a disc and separation is then the sound similar as if using one mic mono and then just convert the track to stereo? Since already carrying those two mics anyway, maybe the disc is not much extra load, strap disc outside of backpack.
