You don't need turtle soul stones so this strategy might not be best for those that do. If I open half of the vases and get a grand prize that is not the soul stones, I have to decide to open more or refresh. If the same thing happens several times I might run out of picks before getting enough soul stones. P.S. I also got an avatar in the 5x vase
Statistically, you pick until you get a grand prize. If you open MORE THAN 11 before getting one, your odds go UP for the remaining 2.if you open more than 23, your odds go up for the last 1. If you opened 25 before you got the large skin stones, then the soul stones and coins are in only 7 left. You opened 4? Refresh!
I actually did the math on 6 star spray, opening 6 golden vases always, and refresh at the first big prize. On average you get 1.5 soul stones per 1 attempt. But because the variance is high due to we can only get 15 or 75 soul stones, you need a bit luck.

When chapter 3 came along I was sad to see all those turtle coins go down the drain so instead I levelled up the turtles. I did level up the material seeker and then spent too much leveling up the change spray as well as buying the activity pizza slice charges each day. I have turtles fully equipped at level 2 and have twice gotten x5 with the 75 turtle soul coins. As usual, final awards on the path to glory are useless but we still have 5 days left and with daily spending 10 bucks to get the pizza slice activity, I am at 8 of the 5x turtle buffs. This event has been a real drain on my resources however I figured I might as well pay attention to this complicated event. I anticipate getting the turtles to top level 6 and using the secret laboratory coins for great runes or possibly equipment for other hero equipment.
Does anyone knows if the forgotten treasury will still be open during chapter 5 or do we have to get rid of all our archeology tools in the next 24 hours??? I am unsure about this.
I have been doing the same thing, it has given me everythin I wanted, I got four new armour sets out of it, but I alaways get the souls outside the golden area....I hope they fix this lottery thing soon. I really need those lab stuff

My big target this entire event is getting that totem and then leveling up the turtles. Everything else is gravy for me...
