It's like saying you prefer football over soccer because "people don't wanna just use their feet". like they're just different games aiming for different play experiences.

I’m a newer player and the perk search function wouldn’t be that useful to me. You slowly unlock them and learn what the symbols are over time. This is a unique situation where fresh, never played players have access to every perk in the game. Search function probably wouldn’t even get used that much with high Mmr players imo but I’m not there so idk
I'm not arguing that for new players, dbd is a mess all around however I do find it funny that if this is a $350000 tournament and no one practiced before hand, that's on you. Imagine if I joined that big of a tournament for cod but never touched a fps title beforehand, I'd look like an idiot.
Yeah, this whole ordeal is more the fault of the lazy streamers than dbd. There was one team that got Dowsey to coach them for just a week prior to the tournament, and that team steamrolled. The rest of them either completely winged it or let someone with sub-100 hours act as coach. They were all very complacent for reasons that I don't personally understand. I guess they're all too rich to care about the prize money.
As a heads up to those who don't know, DBD was one of MANY rounds of this tournament. There wasn't $350,000 on the line for DBD. The winning team, if I recall correctly, earned a point towards the overall rankings of the full tournament filled with other games.
This all could have gone so much smoother if they just taught them the basics and threw them in there with no rules Maybe one like no dupe perks but besides that they really made a huge mistakes giving them comp rules

It was one of those weird multi week tourneys where they play like 4 games and a bunch a charity stuff. They pretty much just got the biggest names possible and picked the games out of a hat.
What it shows me is that these streamers make so much money, they didn’t spend 5 mins researching / practicing for a game that would be in a tournament to win thousands
this is super eye-opening; it's insane how difficult it is for newbies. I have nearly 3k hrs as survivor and I'm trying to coach a brand new player and it is so hard to figure out how best to explain this game....there's so much to learn.
depends, are you teaching killer or survivor? survivor is pretty fucking easy to explain, killer is harder because killer has a lot more theory and mechanics to learn
While this may be true, a lot of it also has to do with attitude, and these steamers are showing a really bad one. Obviously you're going to suck at a new game or thing your doing for the first few times. Especially if the game is a completely different genre than you're used to. Though for the streamers case I think their attitude was this terrible due to the 350k on the line and poor tournament management tbh.
I played custom 1v1 matches with my friend and they quickly learned the basics, and understood how to use the environment to their advantage, as well as counter-play through mind games within a few weeks. Nearly a year later and he is already a teammate that will do everything in his power to save the team, and is pretty damn good at looping

I started playing less than a week ago and I'm already winning vs survivor teams with 1k+ hours no problem. Mechanically the game isn't nearly as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

this part of the tourney was a mess but tbh i blame a lot of it on the streamers. they knew well in advance they'd be playing dbd and only one team thought to practice, which is the team that won. if you're competing for so much money and you know there's a game in it you've never played before you should at least learn what the game is. some of them were pretty chill about the whole thing but there were a few very big streamers who talked down on the game and kicked and screamed just because they couldn't be assed to learn what it was before a major twitch tournament. also, there was no camping rule but the "experienced" coaches were told to avoid it when they played killer since a lot of the streamers were pretty new and the officials wanted the games to last longer for content sake. definitely not a disqualifying rule tho.
Everyone had a week to prepare, yet it's clear Shroud, Tim etc. didn't bother. One guy even said this was the first time he even booted up the game. The rules were stupid, but these streamers just came across as lazy and wilfully ignorant. $350K apparently wasn't worth even the tiniest bit of effort from them. I guess Shroud doesn't need any more donations!

you should try dbd on a playstation 4 and see just how laggy and broken it is. evil dead a game that looks better has a bigger map and way more shit lags way less than a game that’s been out for 5 years. during last anniversary and when nemi got added it was literally unplayable and no dbd streamers talked about it since they’re pc. dbd really needs to get their shit together it’s so ridiculous at this point the difference between playing on pc and console is beyond jarring. if they want a fair and balanced game they should focus on fixing the base game
Try it on the switch. It's fuggin awful. I bought it for my switch so my gf and I can play together. We still play often, but certain killer powers are unusable and nearly impossible to play against on switch. I rage quit against nearly every huntress I play because of the awful dedicated hits. My nurse is still busted, I can not blink. Billy and blight do not work. I get 360'd by the worst survivors in the game at the lowest mmrs. Makes me sad because I honestly enjoy killer side more.
Yep, not to mention DBD was the only game among hundreds that made my PS4 fan go crazy, which eventually resulted in it shutting off to prevent serious damage. I had to disassemble the whole thing and replace the thermal paste. Luckily the PS5 can handle this ridiculously unoptimised mess of a game.
This was absolutely horrible PR for DbD. How many people decided to never even try DbD because of this debacle. This could and should have been a spike on the steam charts and brought new players to DbD, instead it highlighted that DbD is a trash game to thousands of viewers. As soon as this dropped BHVR shoulda stepped up and overhauled the lobby UI and gave us search bars among other things and brought it out of the dark ages. Instead we (finally) are getting perk and cosmetic presets, they are slightly altering the main menu and a whole bunch of meaningless changes coming this fall. Somehow they think that these are good changes while they continue to not bother bringing in QoL changes that gamers take for granted in other games. It took BHVR 5 years to make it so we can select a page number ffs, we can't even make the game stay on that page.
LITERALLY. So much of this would be avoided if they just added a Callout system and a better UI. The only issue with call outs is if they want the game semi-realistic (I say semi since no way would survivors be running after getting gutted by a hit once, or would they live being on a hook that long but its the entity’s rules idk) then it wouldn’t make sense, thats why they have perks like Wake up that work like a sort of notification for your team to go to that gate or so on. Their not really not worth being perks though which is the issue. So many matches could’ve been saved if you had a way to notify players where you are, or where you need help on a gen, a gate, or where a killer is heading, etc. I wish we had this badly, we already do it over the mic, why not make it so players who want to immerse into the game itself more have the ability to do so and be just as good as party groups
I just don't understand why they don't have a fucking search bar. I can code a search bar in 5 HOURS that's how easy it is. To make a really good, well-defined search bar without bugs would probably take like 20 hours which is still very short. What is their deal with not including basic shit like this? I would prefer search bars over presets because I rarely run the exact same builds over again. Sure for console I can see search bars not really working too well but there are still good alternatives that will always be better than doing nothing.
Ima be honest 80% of that was them whining like a baby about a game they’ve never played especially since DBD is very unique compared to the games they normally play, and like 20% of it was valid criticism. I get DBD is hard for beginners especially since I started playing when it was fun for no one around 3 ish years ago, and I know it’s also not really on them because they were thrown in this with no knowledge and a bunch of comp rules so it’s not on them but this was literally like watching a group of 9 y/o playing DBD.
The problem is that DBD is way too convoluted for beginners, i started playing when the game was free on epic games and did the tutorial and still didnt learn shit outside of things that i already knew due to watching videos from when the game came out. Most of the sistems in dbd arent explained in game, the only thing that the game explains to you is that Killers have to kill and Survivors have to do gens and run away, nothing about boons or hexes or how diffrent perks interact with eachother, doesnt explain ways to deal with atleast the original killers, i for example didnt know until recently that you can flashlight Hag traps and im around 200 hours in. It doesnt teach you how to properly run from the killer, or the fundementals of looping, the same way it doesnt teach how to use basic mind games to help Killers in chase. This isnt good for the game, as a new player you feel like the game doesnt want you playing it, and they didnt even experience the worst part about this game, the grind.

Like the guy that was surprised that attempting to get off the hook was killing him when the tutorial literally says in no uncertain terms that it should ONLY be done when there are no other options. I had to go look her up because I've never heard of her before. I'm not great at the game and I can tell she's not great either and proves that anyone can get to Rank Iri 1. I finally clicked off of the vod I was watching when one of her guy friends yelled at the random for not unhooking him while said random was being chased by the killer and couldn't safely unhook. She even accused a killer of stream sniping when she had ran around two lockers, leaving behind her tracks, before getting in one. Typical baby raging survivors.

This is the same thing that happened with the OTV crew, sykkuno, rae, toast, Ludwig etc they didn't how to play the game and so they felt helpless as survivors and were just confused the whole time so they didn't see how fun DBD can be at it's max potential, it really hurt me cause I love those guys but they didn't bother to learn - the learning curve is quite big though, lots of information What's weird is they could have asked hafu, 5up etc to teach them but they didn't maybe it was a miscommunication

@@notyou9348 We really shouldn't have MMR. Nor should this game ever be considered a tournament type game. Too much RNG and perks and such that you don't know any information on. Like, I don't know what survivors are running (fair enough) and they don't know what I'm running (fair enough) but to combine all of that, plus the fact of no dupe perks, so you have 16 different perks to the killer's 4. And no camping, well sometimes killers HAVE to camp to get any sort of kills, and anyone that tries to say they don't camp, I can bet has camped. Plus to throw in this being BRAND NEW people. This just shows how bad of an idea this is for being a tournament style game. And even people that do know this game, RNG is real. Map RNG, killer RNG (what is the killer going to be), perk RNG (will your perks work, or will the killer counter them?), some maps are better for killers, some better for survivors, some suck equally for both sides.
Some stuff is very eye opening for sure, like the lack of a search option for perks. But at the same time these big name streamers have a horrendous attitude towards trying to play something new and out of their comfort zone... I do understand that 350k was on the line here so that might explain it, but that doesn't mean they are in the right.

loved the concept of the game but was put off pretty hard watching afew streamers/vids due to the "rules" that seem to be largely embraced by the community but not actually written or enforced in the game. it honestly seems like the community is its own worst enemy.
If they wanted to promote this game they should've let them play like it was a regular match, no limits so they can all try to have fun and not rage inducing. Tournaments with strict rules are for more competitive/ pro players with 1,000 hours on the game. Now that all the big name streamers said they won't ever touch this game again no one would really want to play from their communities besides a small few since most people want to play what their favorite streamer plays.
Seems ridiculous to get a load of people who have never played DBD to play for a cash prize when there are plenty of people out there who could have had entertaining games with each other while being competent at the game.

The thing that shocks me is that there was not a judge to validate the teams immedeatly before the game begun and explain the rules again, so something like that cannot happen.
I've never played this game but started watching some vids in my recommended. it seems by far to have the most toxic players I've seen..and I play dayz ffs 😂 Yet its so entertaining to see, I can't stop watching.
If they run something similar again, I think each team of survivors should have a very experienced DbD coach, who don't actually play the game but is in voice comms with them & can watch them real time
This tournament was literally just a giant way to convince more people to play the game. Issue is they had people who had never touched the game much less heard of DBD play in the tournament and end up having a bad time. And that in of itself reflects badly on the game because now all those people see their favorite streamer not having a good time, so now they associate the game as "You won't have a good time", solely judge it based off that, and never actually give the game a try for themselves. They added way too many restrictions, banned perks and perk combos, and all around treated this like a full on competitive match full of veteran players. That wasn't the case though. These are people, who most of which play mostly FPS games like CoD and Apex, or similar games like Fortnite. Then while playing survivor, gave them, from the looks of it, one teammate who does play DBD, but also didn't seem like they have been playing long or just not very knowledgeable at all. There is one of two things they could have done, though I think they should have done it only one way. The first way is no restrictions or rules. Since these people have no idea what they are doing, restricting them while simultaneously learning the game obviously frustrated and even angered these guys, as you can see. It was like throwing a child who has never swam before into an Olympic level swim meet. The second thing they could have done, and what I feel they should have done is given the game to these content creators, give them maybe a month or two to play the game. Let them learn how to play, get used to most of the killers if not all both playing as and against, and learn what most of the perks and items do and which are the best to use. This would have given them time to learn the game and all its ins and outs, maybe even encourage them to look up popular DBD creators and watch their videos to learn some stuff, learn about what all they actually can do other than fix gens and save teammates off hook. But again, all this actually was was just a means to try and get a large audience of people through these big streamers and content creators and try to get more people to play the game. But all they did was essentially throw children into a pool and told them to swim and race by Olympic style rules. And not only did that ruin the tournament, but also deterred thousands of people from ever wanted to try out DBD.

I'm not arguing that for new players, dbd is a mess all around however I do find it funny that if this is a $350000 tournament and no one practiced before hand, that's on you. Imagine if I joined that big of a tournament for cod but never touched a fps title beforehand, I'd look like an idiot.
Yeah, this whole ordeal is more the fault of the lazy streamers than dbd. There was one team that got Dowsey to coach them for just a week prior to the tournament, and that team steamrolled. The rest of them either completely winged it or let someone with sub-100 hours act as coach. They were all very complacent for reasons that I don't personally understand. I guess they're all too rich to care about the prize money.

As a heads up to those who don't know, DBD was one of MANY rounds of this tournament. There wasn't $350,000 on the line for DBD. The winning team, if I recall correctly, earned a point towards the overall rankings of the full tournament filled with other games.

It was one of those weird multi week tourneys where they play like 4 games and a bunch a charity stuff. They pretty much just got the biggest names possible and picked the games out of a hat.

this is super eye-opening; it's insane how difficult it is for newbies. I have nearly 3k hrs as survivor and I'm trying to coach a brand new player and it is so hard to figure out how best to explain this game....there's so much to learn.
depends, are you teaching killer or survivor? survivor is pretty fucking easy to explain, killer is harder because killer has a lot more theory and mechanics to learn
While this may be true, a lot of it also has to do with attitude, and these steamers are showing a really bad one.
Obviously you're going to suck at a new game or thing your doing for the first few times. Especially if the game is a completely different genre than you're used to.
Though for the streamers case I think their attitude was this terrible due to the 350k on the line and poor tournament management tbh.
I played custom 1v1 matches with my friend and they quickly learned the basics, and understood how to use the environment to their advantage, as well as counter-play through mind games within a few weeks. Nearly a year later and he is already a teammate that will do everything in his power to save the team, and is pretty damn good at looping
@@Pedro-vm1vg Even then killer is also pretty easy to pick up as long as you start off with an easy to moderate killer first. I started playing less than a week ago and I'm already winning vs survivor teams with 1k+ hours no problem.
Mechanically the game isn't nearly as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

Kinda impossible when there were also other games in the tournament. One of which was Street Fighter. Idk how you would've worked that out
this part of the tourney was a mess but tbh i blame a lot of it on the streamers. they knew well in advance they'd be playing dbd and only one team thought to practice, which is the team that won. if you're competing for so much money and you know there's a game in it you've never played before you should at least learn what the game is. some of them were pretty chill about the whole thing but there were a few very big streamers who talked down on the game and kicked and screamed just because they couldn't be assed to learn what it was before a major twitch tournament. also, there was no camping rule but the "experienced" coaches were told to avoid it when they played killer since a lot of the streamers were pretty new and the officials wanted the games to last longer for content sake. definitely not a disqualifying rule tho.
Everyone had a week to prepare, yet it's clear Shroud, Tim etc. didn't bother. One guy even said this was the first time he even booted up the game.
The rules were stupid, but these streamers just came across as lazy and wilfully ignorant. $350K apparently wasn't worth even the tiniest bit of effort from them.

If I remember correctly one of the teams actually prepared beforehand and were coached beforehand. None of the ones shown on there however.

I know Shroud, I know a couple of the others from when I was in to Fortnite. All the shouting and screaming reminds me of xQc trying to play. Let Apex and whatever game they play have them lol.

Almost everything I learned was from watching TH-camrs and streamers play. The game certainly didn’t help me any, lol.

From what I’ve heard they were told about the tournament a week before the actual tournament they had enough time to understand basically everything and one of the streamers had a sub coach him about gens and everything
you should try dbd on a playstation 4 and see just how laggy and broken it is. evil dead a game that looks better has a bigger map and way more shit lags way less than a game that’s been out for 5 years. during last anniversary and when nemi got added it was literally unplayable and no dbd streamers talked about it since they’re pc. dbd really needs to get their shit together it’s so ridiculous at this point the difference between playing on pc and console is beyond jarring. if they want a fair and balanced game they should focus on fixing the base game

Try it on the switch. It's fuggin awful. I bought it for my switch so my gf and I can play together. We still play often, but certain killer powers are unusable and nearly impossible to play against on switch. I rage quit against nearly every huntress I play because of the awful dedicated hits. My nurse is still busted, I can not blink. Billy and blight do not work. I get 360'd by the worst survivors in the game at the lowest mmrs. Makes me sad because I honestly enjoy killer side more.
Yep, not to mention DBD was the only game among hundreds that made my PS4 fan go crazy, which eventually resulted in it shutting off to prevent serious damage. I had to disassemble the whole thing and replace the thermal paste.
Luckily the PS5 can handle this ridiculously unoptimised mess of a game.

This was absolutely horrible PR for DbD. How many people decided to never even try DbD because of this debacle. This could and should have been a spike on the steam charts and brought new players to DbD, instead it highlighted that DbD is a trash game to thousands of viewers.
As soon as this dropped BHVR shoulda stepped up and overhauled the lobby UI and gave us search bars among other things and brought it out of the dark ages. Instead we (finally) are getting perk and cosmetic presets, they are slightly altering the main menu and a whole bunch of meaningless changes coming this fall. Somehow they think that these are good changes while they continue to not bother bringing in QoL changes that gamers take for granted in other games. It took BHVR 5 years to make it so we can select a page number ffs, we can't even make the game stay on that page.
LITERALLY. So much of this would be avoided if they just added a Callout system and a better UI.
The only issue with call outs is if they want the game semi-realistic (I say semi since no way would survivors be running after getting gutted by a hit once, or would they live being on a hook that long but its the entity’s rules idk) then it wouldn’t make sense, thats why they have perks like Wake up that work like a sort of notification for your team to go to that gate or so on. Their not really not worth being perks though which is the issue. So many matches could’ve been saved if you had a way to notify players where you are, or where you need help on a gen, a gate, or where a killer is heading, etc. I wish we had this badly, we already do it over the mic, why not make it so players who want to immerse into the game itself more have the ability to do so and be just as good as party groups
I just don't understand why they don't have a fucking search bar. I can code a search bar in 5 HOURS that's how easy it is. To make a really good, well-defined search bar without bugs would probably take like 20 hours which is still very short. What is their deal with not including basic shit like this?
I would prefer search bars over presets because I rarely run the exact same builds over again. Sure for console I can see search bars not really working too well but there are still good alternatives that will always be better than doing nothing.

Ima be honest 80% of that was them whining like a baby about a game they’ve never played especially since DBD is very unique compared to the games they normally play, and like 20% of it was valid criticism. I get DBD is hard for beginners especially since I started playing when it was fun for no one around 3 ish years ago, and I know it’s also not really on them because they were thrown in this with no knowledge and a bunch of comp rules so it’s not on them but this was literally like watching a group of 9 y/o playing DBD.

The problem is that DBD is way too convoluted for beginners, i started playing when the game was free on epic games and did the tutorial and still didnt learn shit outside of things that i already knew due to watching videos from when the game came out.
Most of the sistems in dbd arent explained in game, the only thing that the game explains to you is that Killers have to kill and Survivors have to do gens and run away, nothing about boons or hexes or how diffrent perks interact with eachother, doesnt explain ways to deal with atleast the original killers, i for example didnt know until recently that you can flashlight Hag traps and im around 200 hours in.
It doesnt teach you how to properly run from the killer, or the fundementals of looping, the same way it doesnt teach how to use basic mind games to help Killers in chase.
This isnt good for the game, as a new player you feel like the game doesnt want you playing it, and they didnt even experience the worst part about this game, the grind.
its not really their fault but i agree not all of it was valid critism, they would complain about chases and shit when they have no clue how to do anything, not the games fault... they shouldnt have even had this game in the tourney to begin with. its too complicated to learn for a few rounds... also they shouldn't have banned all this shit and made it even more confsuing

I had to go look her up because I've never heard of her before. I'm not great at the game and I can tell she's not great either and proves that anyone can get to Rank Iri 1. I finally clicked off of the vod I was watching when one of her guy friends yelled at the random for not unhooking him while said random was being chased by the killer and couldn't safely unhook. She even accused a killer of stream sniping when she had ran around two lockers, leaving behind her tracks, before getting in one. Typical baby raging survivors.

This is the same thing that happened with the OTV crew, sykkuno, rae, toast, Ludwig etc they didn't how to play the game and so they felt helpless as survivors and were just confused the whole time so they didn't see how fun DBD can be at it's max potential, it really hurt me cause I love those guys but they didn't bother to learn - the learning curve is quite big though, lots of information

@@notyou9348 We really shouldn't have MMR. Nor should this game ever be considered a tournament type game. Too much RNG and perks and such that you don't know any information on. Like, I don't know what survivors are running (fair enough) and they don't know what I'm running (fair enough) but to combine all of that, plus the fact of no dupe perks, so you have 16 different perks to the killer's 4. And no camping, well sometimes killers HAVE to camp to get any sort of kills, and anyone that tries to say they don't camp, I can bet has camped. Plus to throw in this being BRAND NEW people. This just shows how bad of an idea this is for being a tournament style game. And even people that do know this game, RNG is real. Map RNG, killer RNG (what is the killer going to be), perk RNG (will your perks work, or will the killer counter them?), some maps are better for killers, some better for survivors, some suck equally for both sides.
this could also be part of the reason why all the QOL things we have been wanting, all got talk about at the same time.
Some stuff is very eye opening for sure, like the lack of a search option for perks.
But at the same time these big name streamers have a horrendous attitude towards trying to play something new and out of their comfort zone...

loved the concept of the game but was put off pretty hard watching afew streamers/vids due to the "rules" that seem to be largely embraced by the community but not actually written or enforced in the game. it honestly seems like the community is its own worst enemy.
The only thing that disapoints me in this tournament crap is that they were given DEMOGORGON. Thats bullcrap.
If they wanted to promote this game they should've let them play like it was a regular match, no limits so they can all try to have fun and not rage inducing. Tournaments with strict rules are for more competitive/ pro players with 1,000 hours on the game. This tournament was literally just a giant way to convince more people to play the game. Issue is they had people who had never touched the game much less heard of DBD play in the tournament and end up having a bad time. And that in of itself reflects badly on the game because now all those people see their favorite streamer not having a good time, so now they associate the game as "You won't have a good time", solely judge it based off that, and never actually give the game a try for themselves.
They added way too many restrictions, banned perks and perk combos, and all around treated this like a full on competitive match full of veteran players. That wasn't the case though. These are people, who most of which play mostly FPS games like CoD and Apex, or similar games like Fortnite. Then while playing survivor, gave them, from the looks of it, one teammate who does play DBD, but also didn't seem like they have been playing long or just not very knowledgeable at all.
There is one of two things they could have done, though I think they should have done it only one way. The first way is no restrictions or rules. Since these people have no idea what they are doing, restricting them while simultaneously learning the game obviously frustrated and even angered these guys, as you can see. It was like throwing a child who has never swam before into an Olympic level swim meet. The second thing they could have done, and what I feel they should have done is given the game to these content creators, give them maybe a month or two to play the game. Let them learn how to play, get used to most of the killers if not all both playing as and against, and learn what most of the perks and items do and which are the best to use. This would have given them time to learn the game and all its ins and outs, maybe even encourage them to look up popular DBD creators and watch their videos to learn some stuff, learn about what all they actually can do other than fix gens and save teammates off hook.
But again, all this actually was was just a means to try and get a large audience of people through these big streamers and content creators and try to get more people to play the game. But all they did was essentially throw children into a pool and told them to swim and race by Olympic style rules. And not only did that ruin the tournament, but also deterred thousands of people from ever wanted to try out DBD.
Yea, they wanted more people to play the game, but in turn just made a LOT of people not want to play it. DBD should have stayed off the list of tourney games. Let's be honest, it's not really a game that's good for tourneys anyway. With all the RNG and perks and such, it's not a good game for tourneys.
@@tinykittenlollipop1 Honestly yea, not really a good tournament game, but they still could have done something to make it a better experience and it would have benefitted BHVR if all it was was a way to make more money.
I'm kinda getting second hand embarrasment since the streamers made the game look pretty bad. And yes, it's not their fault, since they basically didint know shit about the game but they didint even give it another chance they just decided to never play it again.
They should have just made it where there's no rules. They don't even know how to play game, and with a million rules on top of that?

Like only 6 easy to play killers with 4 easy to understand perks and same for survivors just make it an auto pick so they can focus on the game and get confused about all different perks and play style
