It’s so satisfying isn’t it! I was using it at around 900-1100 and no one was falling for it but finally got two people with it in the last couple days.
@@gardenmenuuu What I notice is that in the second move I can find nothing better than capturing that pawn and when he recaptures with queen and you attack the queen with knight, he doesn't put the queen back on d8 and puts it somewhere else so I usually exchange the queen's and I am usually more comfortable playing when queens are exchanged and I usually win
Just came across this video. I had seen the technique on other sites, but I believe IM Rosen was the first I've seen to put it out. About the trap, I really like how you explain what happens if black does NOT fall for the trap. Other people just march on as if it's inevitable for black to fall for it, but in many of my games I'm ready to spring the trap when the other person goes "off script". Nicely done, Eric. And very glad you kept at it and continued making videos.
Learned a ton! I play those first two moves when i'm black. I usually don't take the pawn because I'm skeptical. But now, I know what white can do lol Awesome video! Keep it up.
Recently played a game with a buddy who plays 1e4, d5 regularly. The b4 trap was devastating, he was totally lost in a few moves. Awesome and very easy to understand instructional video!
Wow I just wanted to know how to play against the scandi and this was the first video when I searched. Crazy I just stumbled on Erics first instructional video. I love this guy and he inspired me to start chess a couple years ago and I played the Stanford gambit almost exclusively my first couple years because of him.
Your videos have helped me develop my own game and thinking. Mainly when you calclulate whilst drawing arrows is very helpful as i dont know notation that well. Thanks :)
What if at 2:43 black plays Qe4 and checks? To me it seems that black can make the time to move the king to D-file and thus breaking the threat from the white knight.
I know this is a bit late, but I think the check isn’t that scary and you can just block it and the queen might still be out in the open afterwards. Plus, you will get slightly more development.
Knight A6 completely prevents the fork threat which is unaddressed in this video. I'm my opinion, this is probably the most common response. Whats the best play for white in that situation?
This didn't even get recommend to me. I searched up a counter for the Scandinavian defense and saw you pop up. After clicking on the video I hear the words "welcome to my first ever instructional chess youtube video". So cool to watch this now.
Good video and explanation. If there is an opportunity, i look forward to seeing your other video on Scandinavian for White against Black playing 2. .. Nf6 followed by 3... c6. I like to understand what is white's plan. Thanks
Oh wow I was just looking for videos on how to play against the Scandinavian and this popped up, I though it was a normal video until I realized it was his first instructional video.
Great video. A guy at my club regularly plays Scandinavian. Please note opening videos/opening traps. "Crush sicilian with Nc3" a personal favorite of mine.
Gothamchess just dropped an in depth guide to the Scandinavian where black plays queen H5, so now almost every one of my 1300 games is people playing this opening. Really glad I found this early video by one of my all time favourite chess guru's!
I'm currently trying to figure out the answer to this question. I think Ba3 is okay, c3 is okay, and Nf3 is okay. But I'm not sure which is best. Let me know your thoughts
I just came back to this video to see if this was addressed myself, but I think the advantage for white in this case is they can simply continue development in the center, while black's pieces are a bit awkward on the side of the board.
Was looking for some fun responses to Scandinavian and tried this but 5... Na6 just puts me behind it feels. What aggressive moves after 5... Na6? Just develop with 6. Nf3?
My opponent played Knight to a6 :( I lost on cause I couldn't remember what to do. I remembered you telling this trap briefly in a St Louis lecture, so I googled, and I was surprised to find this was your first video ever. I have said this a million times before, will say it again, I love you and your content!
same here but i still managed to win them all. Even if Na6 happens, i think idea is still the same. We are still developing and we can start attacking the queen with rook first to let our bishop get there.
Ahhh how far we’ve come lol also it’d be funny if instead of introducing yourself as IM, you say ‘hi I’m Eric. I’m good at chess.’ Edit: REALLY good at Chess.
Hello Eric, I was looking for the most tricky response to the Scandinavian and I found this video very interesting, but I wondered if I can actually apply this idea to a correspondence game. I’m asking because unlike any other time control with the correspondence format you have more time to ponder your moves and your opponent would have more chances of refuting this idea. Greetings from Dominican Republic 🇩🇴🙏🏻
Well done Eric if it is ur first video then 10 out of 10 you have explained the easiest way to counter this opening . How about becoming my mentor ? I am eagerly waiting for ur next video😊
Could you cover some ideas behind the main Fried Liver deffence line? I know the d4 push is crucial, but after the Bb5+ pawn exchange, I always hate the position. Thanks!
Sure! I actually covered an interesting line for black against Fried Liver in a recent video on the STL Chess Club TH-cam Channel. It's called "Beat Fischer, Karjakin, & Kummer." I may make video expanding further on the options for black since there are a good deal of complications in many lines.
Omg. Was just looking for this since it's the most forceful London killing defense and I need to learn how to address it. Had no idea this would cause me to stumble into your first ever video. Way to go in building up a strong following!
Hey Eric. I already watched a lot of your videos and love the stafford gambit (even if everyone seems to know about this days :D ). I have an Opening request: Can you make a video showing the Max Lange Attack and/or Italian italian koltanowski gambit? Would love to see what you think about it and hope you know some lines here I was not aware of. Have a nice day!
My chess teacher always basically plays scandinavian defense when i played 1. e4. so basically, i lose everytime trying to challenge my own chess teacher, but now after watching this video, i might beat my own chess teacher if he ever plays the scandinavian defense

My friend always plays the Scandinavian defense and I never know what to do and lose, thanks for this video I might have a shot now!
Kick their asses bro

Damn. Eric playing chess using ms words. What a legend
this is probably a joke but this isn't ms word, it's ChessBase, a chess database program

Watched this. 30 minutes later finally someone played into it and he immediately blundered the king and rook fork.
I have watched this like 5 times because everytime I face the scandinavian I wanna use this trap but realize I have forgotten it.
Same. Just lost by messing it up

Your approach is so calm and casual. Such devastating results. Great channel.
The perfect blend of instructional, entertaining, and humble.
Recently played a game with a buddy who plays 1e4, d5 regularly. The b4 trap was devastating, he was totally lost in a few moves. Awesome and very easy to understand instructional video!
"I'll be putting out a lot more videos similar to this". Yes Eric, yes you will.
‘I’ll be putting a lot my videos similar to this…’ 4 years later and he kept his promise and then some!!

Wow!! Stumbled on your first video ever!! Eric, thank so much for what you do.

I just started playing the Scandinavian. This is good to know!

What about 5. Ka6 for Black ? It defends the c7 square and counters the trick, or is there another trick ?
It's just worked for me! Thanks Eric
2:32 black can just go Na6 and it prevents the whole gambit, why is qa5 the best move? After na6, white goes rb1 and the queen just moves
Yeah Na6 also feels more natural because it develops a piece and neutralizes the threat.
This is what i thought. What do you do if he does this?
5 ... na6 just solves everything
Nope, white's development with the bischop still continues leading into a very weak position for black
On move 6, if black plays Nf6 or Nc6, then it stops all of your attacks...
Excellent. Thank you very much !
LOL At the first game after watching this video I crushed my opponent with this trap. WOW TY Eric
I'm loving all the tactical traps on this chess channel. Thanks. I put this in the engine analysis and found that it's called the "Leonhardt Gambit."
Woaah!!! That actually seems legit response to Scandinavian 🔥❤️

Excellent information! Thank you!
Such a useful video - just used this for the first time with great success! Thanks! 😎
Knowing what happened since this video, this is kind of funny. Congrats with the channel.
Pretty good stuff, but what do you do if black's 5th move is Na6 instead of Qa5?
Maybe a bishop counterattack with ba3
Knight a6 stops it dead though
What about Na6?
Eric, what do you suggest against Na6 instead of Qa5 to stop the knight threat? I'm coming up against this more often than not when trying this line
Oh wow I was just looking for videos on how to play against the Scandinavian and this popped up, I though it was a normal video until I realized it was his first instructional video.
But what if black defends the c7 pawn with knight a6?
Great video. A guy at my club regularly plays Scandinavian. Please note opening videos/opening traps. "Crush sicilian with Nc3" a personal favorite of mine.
Can you please make a video on your most played openings for both black and white?

Nxc7+ wins the rook
@@tariqpsp Black can play Nxc7 in that line. That's the whole purpose of Na6, though I presume that you were thought she said a6 instead
My friend loves the Scandinavian. I am watching this at 9:30pm for a tournament tomorrow.
How did you do??
Maestro, what if Black King doesnt take on F7?....but goes to say D8 etc.
What about if they defend with knight A6???
With this variation what would be the possible continuation 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 4. b4 Qxb4
5. Nb5 Qa5 6. Bc4 e6 7. Bb2 Qb4
Rb1 and prepare to strike G7 with the bishop maybe? Then you have a way to capture the Queen
Was looking for some fun responses to Scandinavian and tried this but 5... Na6 just puts me behind it feels. What aggressive moves after 5... Na6? Just develop with 6. Nf3?
what if black calls check after instead of moving queen to the side

How do we respond if they defend with Na6?
Yeah what do you do ?
What do I play in response to 6.Nf6?? That just seems to kill it
then you'll retreat the queen and protect the knight
Maybe the same plan as 6.e6, just developing
