@@ZeallustImmortal honestly the most offensive thing I remember from Jon’s time on GG was the bit in Sonic ‘06 where he kept saying “bust a cap in that n*gga!” a few times over like 10 seconds, and they had to repeatedly censor it. Something like that feels a lot less out of pocket when it’s in a long drawn out series of recording sessions and was itself censored. I was only thinking back to JonTronShow videos with my comment, but even with GG in mind I don’t know if Jon ever took a video from 0-100 so quickly with a joke like that 😂

Like I said, I think I anticipate people to say the weirdest, most absurd things and to potentially push the boundaries the most during a let’s play because that’s sort of how that content has progressed and it’s what I expect. Maybe, when it was first coming out, that was a lot less the case. I can’t say. But particularly when you compare that joke to other JonTronShow videos, this one is particularly blunt for how dark it is. Maybe there are darker ones if I were to go back through and rewatch, but I can’t remember ever watching Jon and audibly just going “JESUS JON 😂” like I did with this one.
20:47 the funny thing here is that most of the food restrictions and stuff like that in religions were based on reality, where pork isnt eaten it turns out pork carried parasites, where shellfish isnt eaten same story, stuff like that. It was like PSAs via religion. Back before we understood food safety like we do now, people would just avoid foods that made them sick and teach their kids via religion to avoid those foods.

In the very rural area of east Tennessee that I grew up in there are what we call snake handling churches. I'm sure you two are familiar with the concept at least. There was even a show that called maybe Snake Salvation (I didn't watch it so I'm not sure) where one of the younger preachers went to my old elementary school. It's legit the most attention that we ever got and it was for that! I was to say the least mortified that was how the country was introduced to our poverty stricken hollers. The only other thing of note that happened was when I was very young Smokey Mountain Wrestling would come by every year or so and I got to meet the Rock N Roll Express which was a highlight in my life but I digress. The Headbangers who would later be a WWF/E tag team was cutting a typical heel promo calling us poor, uneducated hillbillies and this lady who would come to be my 8th grade teacher years later got so offended that she jumped up and started cussing from behind the guardrail. Nothing wrong with that really just showing the maturity of my teachers literally at a school event. We were so poor that out gym was carpeted with the basketball court was just lines of vinyl tape in the damned carpet. Well the Headbangers went up to her and started taunting her which caused her husband to jump up and get his nose shattered from a punch from one of the wrestlers. The teacher and her husband sued and soon there was no more Smokey Mountain Wrestling, let alone any wrestling event that ever came back. I would rather be known as poor, uneducated hillbilles than fucking snake handlers because that takes a special type of crazy.
