6:10 All the coefficients (the numbers in front of the letters) are positive. In this case we are eliminating X, so we need to multiply the first equation by -5 and the second equation by 3. So when we add the equations together we multiply by -5. You could multiply by 5 and subtract the equations but that can cause more confusion.
I'm assuming you understood how he got to: 3x + -4 = 5 Adding a negative number is the same thing as just subtracting so you could simplify it as: 3x - 4 = 5 To solve for X you first want get rid of the -4. So you need to add 4 to both sides of the equation: 3x - 4 = 5 +4 +4 The 4s on the left side cancel out so you're left with: 3x = 9 To solve for x, just divide by 3 on both sides and you get: X=3 Hope that helps! it doesn't work if the first equation equals a negative number to start it also frustrating to see the amount of "Thank you" I see in the comment section as all you have helped me achieve is a failed math test

Why did you choose to change the 5 to -5? What's the concept?

Why only we kept 5 in negative?
Because the signs behind the numbers are all positive so we have to multiply one of the equation by negative sign.

i have different solution but always same answer. i always multiply both variables like
-3(4x+3y=15)
4(3x-2y=7)
y=1 x=3
That seems more complicated. You already have a negative coefficient. You don't need another one.

To remove -4 you must add 4 to both sides of the equation. That is why you get a 9 on the RHS, and the -4 is removed from the LHS

The method does work. Perhaps you made an addition error as negative numbers can be tricky. What was the question you were trying to solve?
