    Great video! We're on our 2nd season with our now 3 1/2 yr old daughter but we only get to go a couple of days a year and generally it's 3 days in a row holiday type deal so it's very tough to manage fatigue over a few days while keeping the excitement high!

    You two are doing a great job teaching your children to ski!
    As a 20+ year ski instructor let me offer a tip or two. One good way to start really little kids is to play catch with them. Find a good spot and daddy let's go of baby who slides a very short distance to mommy. Make this fun! The purpose is to develop balance on a moving ski. Don't go steeper or further apart than the speed you want them to ski at.
    I'm not a big fan of child between the legs, I've seen crashes. It is very easy to get your skies tangled with the childs. I like using a harness. But I try my hardest not to hold the child back/slow them down with the harness. Instead, keep the rains loose, but use them to make the child turn, like you described. They should be constantly turning to maintain a constant speed. It helps if they are going towards the other, constantly turning parent. This gets them used to controlling speed by turning. At the ski school we see lots of 4-6 year olds who constantly go too fast and crash hard, because they never learned how turn to controlling speed. This goes for the kids who know how to make a pizza to stop, too.
    Some of the best things you say is that there is no one best way to do any of this. If you are willing to invest a few years making this super fun for the family you will have good little skiers!
    Also, hire an instructor to help you and/or your child. A good one has done this many many times.
    Happy skiing!

    Guys, please don't advice any children against mastering the plow motion. There is a reason why this motion is a pillar of all ski schools world wide, and it's not only because it's handy for beginners on ski. When you become expertly good on skis and go down very icey triple diamond black slopes, or in forest paths with no room to maneuver, this plow motion that you master will be your best tool to control your speed.
    In short, the plow is essential, and should not be skipped! This coming from an expert skier who still attends ski classes even though I'm 40.

    I'm curious , why is the airplane hand position better than having them place their hands on their knees? Don't we want their hands to help them lean forward?

      Ideally yes, but our kids had a tendency of turning into limp noodles. Telling them to stand with strong cores helped get them not to fall over.

    My recommendation as somebody with an adaptive snow sports qualification with the backpacks great for picking kids up but not good for the 'slope ropes'. It sits too high up on a children's back, Which is why in this video the child fell when pulled on. The best kind of tethering is to go from the hips, there are harnesses now that exist for both children and adults that do this. So you behind can actually help create turns if needed without pulling someone over in the process. :) great video though!

At 5 and 6 they are both of the harness and are starting to use poles minimally. Keeping my fingers crossed on the grandson

      Mark Roost absolutely let us know how the MDXONE works. 30 months sounds about perfect for giving skiing a try. I went out with my son Bryce for some lessons for the first time this year earlier this week (about 32 months) and he did great. Funny thing was that, unlike our daughter, Bryce did not like the wedgies. He did much better trying to keep the skis together on his own. You should check out our video (the most recent one posted). Good luck and enjoy the time with your daughter!

    This couple are really nice, and I'm sure they're well intentioned, but there is a reason that they said "taking a 2 year old skiing is exhausting"-- that's because 2 year olds are TOO YOUNG TO START SKIING. Wait until your child is at least 4 year old. Yes, you may be eager to get them going, but trust me the 2 year spread between a 2 y.o. and a 4 y.o. makes no difference in the long run. In fact, the 4 y.o. has a better chance of staying with skiing because they will enjoy it more because they can accomplish more. (Btw, 2 y.o's do not "carve")

    • @HamletFyfe
      @HamletFyfe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you must take a 2 y.o. "skiing" just let them play in the snow with a pair of those light plastic "skis" attached to their snow boots- they will associate fun with the snow and want to come back when they're physically ready.

    Adventurous Taylors Hi, I would like to ask you if you can delete this video. I am a professional ski teacher and I am begging you to do it. It's full of really dangerous advices which actually complicate the whole process of teaching the child how to ski. Bind the ski tips together or putting them on any sorts of ropes is highly dangerous for you, for your child and for other skiers.
