This benjo (not banjo) instrument was invented long ago in Japan. Learned this listening to a BBC podcast episode of Lives Less Ordinary titled “Balochistan’s mystery benjo man”, part 1, released April 14, 2024 (the day before tax day).
Actually his from balochistan not india😅, but love how foreigners getting to hear our tradition music, and as a 100% rock beliveer makes me happy that people who listen to rock enjoying this🤘🏼💙💚❤
Because of the drone it reminds me of the Dulcimer, and the Bagpipe. Its own beautiful thing. But you could close your eyes and image you are in Scotland, or in the Appalachian mountains.
Did you guys notice the tone of this banjo its not at all sharp , beautiful . And it is very smooth tone , like Les Paul of banjo's , I don't know if has customized according to his skills but the tuning is very soulful.
What a player! He's phenomenal! The instrument is very similar to the Japanese saisho koto. I have one. Think the tuning and intervals are different though.
Thank You @@mysorevadiraj, very interesting! I Play Hurdy Gurdy, it is an instrument in somme aspets similar than Benjo... see and hear it in my channel. This rithm is very important in traditional music in Europe too, but we feel it like 2 groups of 3 beats. (cicles of 6)
@@fraioscar nice to know sir.. will surely check..If you are interested, we can do some videos together too by collaging it with benjo & Mridangam, Indian rhythm with Western music.

@@yobrojoost i get it, but joy and talent don't make you eat, i was trying to point the fact that we regard this as something exotic and needing nothing whereas if he were born anywhere else in the world he would be recognized by now and not struggle in life and it would seem abnormal if he were still poor. There is a kind of hypocrisy in assuming that because he lives so far away from "modern civilization", because he probably has a caring "community", his needs in money are not the same as ours. I know as little about him as you do, so I may be entirely wrong as well ; but all in can infer from this video is that he got talent and shows it, and if he really is "poor" as the video title suggests then he is not rewarded for that as he should be. And by the way, the only one making money from this man's talent are the people monetizing this video on social networks. So it is indeed sad.
I can see that you've really thought this through, and I appreciate you taking the time to write such an extensive reply. I agree with you wholeheartedly and hope that Mr Baksh will be rewarded for sharing his unique gift. That said, I am a musician myself and although I have at times made a living from my music, a lot of the time, especially in the last few years, this has not been possible and I've had to revert to other means. @@yobrojoost you're right, poverty is relative, and it's difficult to live from musicianship - as a musician myself as well i'm aware of that too :) but it seems to me that in those kind of videos, some people do earn money from that guy's talent, but not the guy himself. As Internet content sharers gain knowledege about mediatizing and storytelling and how to pull the emphatic strings that resonate within everybody, this kind of "stealing" becomes more common. You're right again. I've just had a look at this channel, it's from an Indian musician. He has a lot videos with Indian music and seems respectful of the players. I'm going to subscribe and send him a message to see if something can be done for Mr. Baksh and his family. The video was posted recently so there's a good chance he's still there. Thank you for the inspiration!

Good observation!
Wow! This is absolutely transcendent! I wish I could buy recordings of his music. This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard.
Do have fb? I will send some links of his videos, if i get
The notes are of the kafi scale of hindustani
or kharaharapriya scale in south India. Great stuff

Hi Mysore Vadiraj, good video, fantaastique musicien and interpretation...¿can you say me how we can name the rithm he are playing?
We call Tishra nadai in Carnatic music, like if we take Aadi thala which is 8 counts per cycle, each counts can be divided into 3 beats.
