This bike doesn't need mechanical updates like modern bikes, Yamaha got it right. Keeping a fun, affordable, and reasonably competitive two stroke in the lineup shows they're listening to their customers. Realistically if Yamaha updates the suspension and looks every so often, it could stick around for a really long time.

I haven't ridden dirt bikes since a glorious time for me in '78 when I owned and rode two race-campaigned, tricked-out 125 Elsies in Canton, Ohio--I was a huge Marty Smith fan so, for sure, it had to be those Hondas. And at 61, I don't plan to overdue it--still a big bicycle rider--but man, twistin' the throttle of one of these new little 125 two-strokes would be mighty therapeutic, sort of like opening up a kart on one of those recreational rental tracks where you pretend you're driving the old stock car out front.

Bad Ass John. I’m 53 and ordered the 22 YZ125. Should be in late Aug/ Sept. I have 3 Sons who ride and they talked me into it. Lol. Of course they think they will ride it but they aren’t touching it. I was actually looking for a Harley or Ducati Scrambler and bought a 2 Stroke. U only live once.

@Flee Bag better throttle response an little more on the bottom end my son said, I got a side by side video of it in a race, both bikes had same pipe/silencer an same jets, but the other bike had stock reeds an our bike got the holeshot out of 39 kids in 125b/c pamx fast house series
Can you put different bar pads on this bike, I have one and I hate the current bar pad and I want to change it, but I don't think you can aye. Anybody know?
You possibly could but you would have to have a stool to jump on and off of it, wrecking wouldn’t be pretty for a bike that big compared to you. I mean you certainly could, but you should be at least 5’6, how old are you and how much do you weigh?
mxa should do a test of a full works yz125 and or 250 vs a full works ktm 125 and or 250. like witch is better when they both have pro circuit pipes, v4 reeds, porting, suspension work the uhh whole thing.
Its sad, because just a couple of YAMANA engineers could tweak this superb bike to get 37hp in about a weeks time with easily and repeatable parts for the production line. Minimal investment on the port re-design, compression, pipe and reed cage and start the 2022 production run with 37hp to match the Australian bikes.
They could do that but then it would be a peaky bike just making power at the top. What makes the yz so nice it’s it’s grunty bottom end compared to the ktm’s which have absolutely zero power in the lower revs.

Small mistake about the sprocket ratio, 13- 48 is stock on the regular YZ125 (the YZ125X off-road version does run 13 -50)
Have a 2012 yz125 and still watch the same bike test every year 😂💙💙

Are the vforce4 reeds best with a fmf pipe or pro circuit pipe?
it's more about the style of pipe not the brand....Vforce are good for mid-top end.
They cost less to fix and are much more reliable than KTM.
better suspension too.
And far better bottom end power.
