- Getting book reviews on Amazon is vital to the success of most books. Without that social proof authors will find further sales, Amazon Ads success, media bookings and even speaking engagements are harder to get. That said, there is a lot of bad advice out there for getting Amazon reviews - like getting reviews from friends or family or that you can't pay to get more reviews. In this video, Julie Broad of Book Launchers walks you through 5 frequently asked questions about getting Amazon Book Reviews and what you need to know.

So many hoops for an Amazon review! Thanks for breaking this down, Julie.🙂
Awesome video, Julie! I've kvetched about the $50/12 months policy, but if it keeps the bots out of the reviews, I'm totally behind it now. Thanks for the enlightenment.
I get it - on the surface the rule seems like it's a money grab by Amazon but when you dig into it - it's actually the best way they can stop a bot farm from creating a bunch of fake people to write reviews. It's a good thing!!

I had forgotten about the $50 dollar spend rule. But I really have to take pause with the family/friends reviews. I have had many friends (old classmates of 50 years ago) buy my book and they have left comments. So my question becomes - how close of a friend and how would Amazon detect them all?
Anyway, great tips as always.
They want reviews from people who purchased and reviewed your book. They can remove removes if they find someone is your friend or family. The reviews just disappear without an explanation.
They have a very smart algorithm and they own Goodreads. A lot of people connect their social media to their Good reads accounts.
What is the average cost to use a book reviewing company?
Some are really low (like under $20). The ones that are editorial reviews are as high as $750.
@@BookLaunchers thanks for the info.
It totally sucks people have to spend $50 with Amazon in order to leave a review... I could easily get 30+ genuine reviews but they don't so on Amazon (neither do I) 😠
I get it - I do shop at Amazon and couldn't even imagine I know 30 people who don't but I understand why people don't like it. On the surface the rule seems like it's a money grab by Amazon but when you dig into it - it's actually the best way they can stop a bot farm from creating a bunch of fake people to write reviews. Thanks for that info. Now I know why they say I don't qualify. 😅
