We just did Booroloola to Burketown and Normanton to Cairns on the Burke D Road Take plenty of diesel is my advice. We had an extra 70 litres in Jerry Cans and did it easily. Karumba sunsets at the point are a must see
Ha! Yeah it's a long stretch........ Fortunately we have at least a 700km range towing so no problems there! No Fuel on the Burke Dev Rd between Karumba & Chillagoe Yep! Karumba is one of our fav places too.. Safe Travels PMK3AUSTRALIA
Thanks 👍 Stephen, Glad you liked it. Seems so long ago now as we are currently in Airlie Beach on our way down the QLD. coast. Cheers Paul & Michelle PMK3AUSTRALIA
I was looking on g maps . and it looks like one of those back roads !! not sure how else to describe it really . cool video !! interesting to see.. I was there in Karumba in June . the water level or tide tide height has significantly dropped . from what I can tell that exposed ship at the end was about 3meters less than what I saw it ..
G day. Yeah it’s a back road 😂😂. We like talking the road less travelled 😃 From memory the tides at Karumba can be as much as 7 or 8 mtrs. So the wreck in the river in our video is probably at low tide. When it ran aground there the tide was 5 mtrs Thanks for your comments Cheers Paul PMK3AUSTRALIA
Hey mate thanks for the videos and all information, we planing for a trip , cairns to Karumba, I have 4 wd but my friend got a little hatch , what do u think about taking hatch back all the way , do u need a 4 wd? And u mentioned about fuel station?
Hi Jake, Thanks for you comments, I usually don't like advising if I think you can do a trip or not, but I can let you know our experiences. Ultimately it is your decision. Be prepared. Cairns to Karumba the way we did it on this video is via the Burke Dev Road from Chillagoe. It's a mixture of bitumen & gravel rd. The trip is long, nearly 600km from Chillagoe to Karumba from memory & there is no fuel between. So you will need to be self sufficient. This is also a bit remote & less travelled. The gravel sections of the burke Dev Rd. can have bulldust patches as you can see in our video. Not sure if I would recommend you take a hatch on this route. It's up to you. The 4WD will have no trouble as long as it doesn't rain. Just check conditions & weather at Chillagoe before going on. We had no problems on our trip & it's great country. The Savannah Way through Mt Surprise & Croydon is another option. I think this is all bitumen & has fuel along the way. This is also a lot more popular with people travelling west from Cairns. Hope this info helps Cheers Paul & Michelle PMK3AUSTRALIA
We always struggled with our weights with the Pajero We needed something with a better tow capacity & payload for our style of travel Plus the paj was getting old & needed replacement The Dmax ticked all the boxes at a great price at the time. It’s 2 years old now 👍😃 Cheers PMK3AUSTRALIA
Ha!😂😂 We don't ...... but it's not that bad & nothing we keep in there is a problem with dust We just clean up after the trips & were not always travelling through bull dust 😃 like this trip Cheers Paul & Michelle PMK3Australia

Can I ask why you got a Dmax was the Pajero insufficient?
We always struggled with our weights with the Pajero
We needed something with a better tow capacity & payload for our style of travel
Plus the paj was getting old & needed replacement

How did you go with dust in the van?
We cover all our vents off road & have properly sealed our van. No issues with dust
