I just found out that my 10-year-old grandson loves tomatoes! He tried a Mr. Stripey for the first time and his eyes lit up. Then we went out to the garden with his sister and they picked corn to eat with their supper. Out of all the things that I have shared with my grandchildren, sharing my garden has been my favorite!

Awww, that's so sweet! I remember being a child and going to my grandma's house. She had a wonderful garden, and she grew many types of veggies, and flowers too. I loved eating at grandma's house, because the food was always so fresh and delicious! And fresh corn and tomatoes from the garden can't be beat, they're so good you don't even have to cook them 🍅🌽

I’ve only been a grandma for three years but my boys LOVE the dirt, plants and watering so far.
I can’t wait for the time they realize the food they love comes from the plants they love! 🤗
I live 600 miles away from them but sent them home from our spring visit with little baby plants this year for the first time. Mamma says they love the process but haven’t harvested the matoes just yet lol I can’t wait! 🤗
I’m hoping to live up to my grandma!
Thank you for sharing your experience! I just absolutely love this for us ❤️

Just want to say, you’ve inspired me so much! If it weren’t for you, I would’ve been crying over my first garden failures instead of rejoicing in all of the successes!! Just planted more zucchini, beans, and cucumbers, and got a few suckers in water for another tomato harvest before the frost. Currently sitting here updating my garden spreadsheet with the 37 different seeds I am planting for the fall garden. First year EVER and LOVING it - and would’ve had such a harder time had I not found y’all - so THANK YOU from a brand-spanking new homesteader (even though I’ve been dreaming of it for decades!!!!)

I went on vacation and came back to everything bolting, over ripe or dead from heat/drought. But August is here, there's still a lot available to plant in the holes of the dead plants. We keep our heads up and keep at it. Good vibes to you and may your garden flourish.

For the honey. Try fermenting garlic in honey. Excellent health benefits.

    • @thelittlebrownranch9105
      @thelittlebrownranch9105 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

That's my suggestion too. Fill a jar with peeled garlic cloves. Add enough honey to cover the cloves. Add lid loosely as fermenting = gas. Mix a few times for the first few days then once daily. Eventually the garlic will soften and stop floating to the top. That's when you should start eating the garlic. Add oil and spices to the honey to make a salad dressing or marinade. Deeelicious!!

My husband has several honeybee hives. We harvested about 15 gallons of honey this year. One of my favorite things to do is to ferment cranberries in it. Not only for the health benefits, but it is delicious. I do have a video on it if you want to look it up. I give a step by step. Fermenting honey is best done during warm weather as the fermenting will go faster. Make sure you have burping tops for your mason jars!
That video and the one for vanilla extract are two of my most popular videos...

Jess, one of my favorite sides is roasted grapes with rosemary. Wash seedless red or black grapes and remove the stems. Toss with olive oil and salt n pepper on a sheet pan. Place sprigs of rosemary amongst the grapes and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes. Serve at room temp. Oh Yum!

I started infusing garlic 🧄 honey last year and it’s my favorite! I always have some readily available first you ferment the organic garlic in the honey for a couple days. Then after it’s fermented pop it into your fridge and use it whenever! Great for teas, or drizzled on a charcuterie board! But our favorite way is dripped over some spicy fried chicken 🍗!
In the winter, honey fermented cranberries are Delicious too! I added rosemary, orange peel, and cinnamon sticks to the fermented honey and cranberries!! Yum 😋

I have struggled keeping my veggies productive this year. Between drought and down pours, pests and crab grass 🤨...I’m just thankful to have made it this far. That being said...oddly enough...my herbs have done exceptionally well! I have basil, thyme, sage and rosemary that are absolutely showing off with very little love and attention from me.
Cletus and Jazzman do prefer to lay in the gardens right around my herbs so maybe THEY are the master gardeners of the family lol...good pups for sure!

I work with a team located there who tell me Ajvar (pronounced eye-var) is the traditional dish, a dip made with these peppers and eggplant, served with roasted vegetables or white cheese (goat or sheep) and bread. Oh gosh, the rain coming with the feel and fragrance sounds delicious. The fragrance of rain in the air takes me back to childhood in Idaho. We had wonderful storms there too. Don't get them much here, at least not as much lightening, which I love watching.
Im so glad to see your peppers in the sketchy soil doing much better. I was just sharing with a friend here about your problem solving ideas on this issue and how it has been inspiring for me even. Btw, I'm so glad you grew the Lesya Pepper! It's a wonderful pepper. I grew Lesya peppers that first year Baker Creek iffered them. Theu grew in the garden boxes Ben built for me before he died. It was like a gift because they were so fabulous and peppers can be challenging to grow here in NW Oregon.
I sent seeds to Patti Gilbert of Southern Blessed Homestead in Tennesee and she adores them too.
The rosemary honey sounds delicious. I finally found a local honey producer and bought a bucket this time. Honey and Thyme, either Winter Thyme or Lemon Thyme are lovely. A more gentle herbal flavor for those who prefer that over the stronger rosemary.
    Enjoyed hanging out today. ~Patty~

Thank you for sharing your pepper harvest and infused honey. While you were chopping the rosemary, I have to say I love your knife! Some might say it's silly, but quality tools are important - especially in the kitchen! :) We grew some Wa Mae Wo Korean hot peppers this year, which are a hybrid... Well they weren't hot, but we're mixing them with some spicy peppers and making a sweet chili sauce and maybe some cowboy relish (chopped cowboy candy). As a Georgia girl who also served in the military, I can say Georgia thunderstorms feel, sound, and look like home to me. There was no place I was stationed that had storms like this - and I have read thunderstorms help either put in or bring up minerals in the soil, so maybe that's a neat thing.

You can infuse (thyme), (lavender), (ginger), (orange peel plus clove)... depending on your taste.
you can sample different flavors with: 1 tsp of another "simple" honey (like acacia) plus1 or more spices" in a mini ramekin.
Leave to infuse for a few days, taste and decide what you like the most before using the raw honey.
If you or children like a particular taste (example cookie speculoos) look at the ingredients and test them in a sample.
You can also add some berries like sea buckthorn.
All this being to make a test with honey cheaper before using a very good honey as you have. (and it also depends on the seasons).

Ginger honey sounds delicious to me. I bet cinnamon would be good too.

@ Yes, cinnamon but only sticks. There is also star anise and all that kind of spices. even lemon but everything must to be dry so you can prepare your lemon zest, let it dry and use it. I like to do samples in case i would not like the finished product.

In the UK we like to eat Lamb (which I know isn't so popular in the US). One of the ways I like to cook it is with honey and rosemary or mint. If I'm cooking leg I make about 15 slits in the skin and poke in a good glob of honey, a few rosemary spikes and a half garlic clove, then roast. Using your infused honey idea cuts out a step, winner :)

I never thought of infusing honey with herbs, I have a nice rosemary bush growing so I will be making rosemary honey today. Thank you for the great idea.

Folks in Arizona are a bit nuts when it actually rains....we do a happy dance if we get more than a dirt settling sprinkle...any day with clouds is a perfect day to go outside! Love Clouds and storms.

We infuse thyme and rosemary in honey and we do sweeten tea with it, but we use it as a cough syrup and/or allergy treatment, also 😊

My garden didn't do well this year, so pickles are out. I wanted to make more bread and butter pickles because I only have one jar left that I have been saving until I made more. I might have to pick up some cucumbers at the farmers market. Ben is so cute.

I love the storms at the beach the best. You never knw what the sea will wash up on the beach. The pepper Will got was much smaller but red as well. Try rosemary honey on sourdough bread with butter. It is so good. My neighbor gave me a quart of raw honey from his bees. I bet your honey would be good as a glaze on a pork loin roast. I bless you as well.
