    This safety razor is outstanding. Frankly, I didn't expect it would be so excellent. Originally, I bought the Gillette Heritage just as a cheap traveling razor, expecting it would be too mild and little inefficient; but I was completely wrong. Even though this razor is quite gentle, it's very, very efficient. I achieved a perfect BBS result in a standard three-pass shave. As an experienced user of expensive safety razors on the aggressive side, I'm really surprised how excellent even a cheap razor like this one can be. In short, I'm astonished.

    Hey Mark. As it happens, my father gave me the exact same super speed as yours did to you. I use it every morning in combination with Astra blues or Gillette platinum blades and I get amazing results. The razors performance is fantastic. However, where I live, it is very hard to find good razors so I'm thinking of ordering one from Amazon as a backup. Since I am so satisfied with the super speed I would like something as good(or better) if possible, which one would you recommend; EJ DE89 or the Gillette Heritage? Thanks in advance.

    • @MarkSzorady

      I'm very impressed with the Gillette Heritage. Very smooth with the included blades and a bit more efficient than the Edwin Jagger, IMHO.:) Very mild, but efficient.:) I really like the Heritage handle, too.:) Again, I was impressed with the Heritage! Suddenly, it was available again. So, you may want to search on Amazon from time to time.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Afandi, thanks.:) As far as head shaving goes, I've used a number of razors. I tend to simply grab whatever razor I shaved with in the morning and use this for a head shave. But, generally, I really like the Chieftain and Vulcan from Vikings Blade. These are neutral and give me a nice amount of feedback when I shave my head. I can feel the blade but not so much as to be overly aggressive. However, I do lighten up on my touch when doing a head shave. Also, if the razor is too mild, I cannot feel the blade and really not sure I've shave the head. So, the Merkur HD 30C is not one I often use for ahead shave...too mild and the handle is a bit short for getting in the back on the neck. But, I have used it in the past.:)
      I also like the new razors (Steam, Ice, and Rain) from Globalshave.club. Great heavy handles and a bit more aggressive than an Edwin Jagger DE89L. Again, it allows me to feel the blade a bit more. The Fatip Grande (made after 2017) is another mild razor with a bit of efficiency that does a nice job.
      Lastly, just about any adjustable does a good job. I tend to dial it in the middle (again a neutral setting) and will dial down if i do a second pass.
      The important thing is to have a good lather up there and make sure to pull the razor in a straight line and make sure to feel the blade. this requires a constant adjustment of the razor angle. I've found that moving it side to side or not lifting it completely from the head when moving it over to shave a new row (so to speak) can result in a nick.
      HTH.

    Not sure why people want Gillette to get back into the DE market. All they will do is make it harder for artisans to make a profit in this business

      I think it may have something to do with Gillette recognizing the growing traditional wet shave market. I think that's what has folks excited.
