I bought this Thor from Sideshow back when he was first offered. The Light armor one was sold out but I very much wanted a Thor having missed out on Avengers Thor and the first solo movie version and I loved the look of this one. I happily displayed him in my apartment until my building had a fire. One of the few things I was able to recover from my apartment was this Thor (minus one foot and Mjolnir) along with Avengers Cap (who managed to keep his shield) and Star Lord (who lost his head and weapons). I was able to replace Thor's foot and Mjolnir thanks to ebay so now he's happily guarding my bedroom. I've never gotten around to replacing the black poncho thing or the cardboard pieces, I'd never even gotten them out of the box back then. I was just able to buy the Light Armor version last week so I finally have both versions. The diecast Mjolnir is great but it is heavy. Any pose with him holding up gradually sags down its so heavy. Thanks Justin!
Personally this is my all time favorite thor look. I love the good colors. Be cool to stick endgame Thor’s head on this figure. To me that is the ultimate thor look haha
Justin I know it's pain in the ass for you to grab different figures from the cabinet. but I'm a fan of your old comparison videos. It shows how Hot Toys improve from older to newer version of the same character also they're hits and misses. Please do an extensive comparison with Endgame Thor.
I agree with you, but thanks to that I bought him in a pretty good price, the open mouth is not my preferred, but looking the figure at a distance it kind of looks good.
I got the Light Armor version to go with Dark World Loki. I have never popped the poncho on him, I just like that I have it in the box just in case. When I pulled him out of the box though and saw that cape I was blown away. I love it so much. The display base is the chonkiest thing I own out of all my figures (and I have End Game Thanos) and it is hard to pose with despite being a square. I love how heavy the die cast hammer is but sometimes it would pull Thor's hand down and once when I was trying to push the handle into his fist I broke the tiny leather strap off and was devastated until I realized it looked fine with out it. I did give the hammer to Civil War Steve on a whim once and it worked so that was fun.
I think the sculpt is spot on, it's just the choice of paint color that seems a bit off, maybe too dark for Hemsworth? I used to think Mjolnir should always be diecast until I tried to get him to hold a pose with it! That thing can be a shelf destroyer
Good review. I've both ... Not sure which I love the most. I use the Dark World for a more dynamic pose because of the headsculpt. And the AoU for a more static pose. As said difficult for me to choose one, because depending the day I like one more or the other. Have also the Infinity War version that has a total different look but love also. Would be difficult for me to choose between those 3 that I think are way better than any other version aside the Roadworn one, that I don't have but looks awesome.
Re-watching this review because I just got this TDW version and the AOU version with fixed/replaced pants pleather with Wired Cape. Can't wait for it to arrive. Such a classic Thor look. I just need a full EndGame version of thor, and an extra body of IW thor for modification for AOU to become swappable arms. Great review always Justin! Salute! 🫡
This is the only Thor I have, to me that's the perfect version of the character, I agree the open mouth is not my preferred, but looking the figure at a distance it kind of looks good, I will only get the End Game version to use it in my IW/EG display.
Hi Justin!!! I love your videos!!! You do such detailed reviews of these figures! Any time I want to see a figure review, I come to you!!! I just wish that I had the money to buy these figures lol! Thank you so much for making these reviews!!!
Hi Justin! I am so excited to see this retro figure of Thor. I like the silver metallic box and the cool graphic of Thor on the back. It doesn’t look like an old figure bu I guess it is. He looks good and looking at the accessories once again there isn’t much but it wouldn’t be Thor if there wasn’t a hammer. I guess since the diecast is heavy it puts wear and tear on the figure but I like the die cast better. The poncho looks great and is nicely shaped. I didn’t know he had a ring that came with him, could you put it on the ground and see what the effect looks like with the ring? The body on this figure looks so good and the cap is beautifully draped. The outfit is fierce, definitely Thor worthy. His armour looks like the sleeves are chain Mail and I see what you mean about the face, I don’t like the color of the hair but maybe blond figures have a different hair color that’s allowed. Personally I would have liked the blond color. His arms look so diesel. That costume is complicated and the layers of leather, metal and matte finishes look so good. The color balance is great, the red does pop. The poncho hides some of his outfit and I’m guessing it’s a rain poncho and not for any other purchase. Comparing him to the Ultron version the colors are more muted abd aged. He’s been through much more and he’s different by AOU. AOU has bare arms, and Hemwirth really looks like that, his arms are just like that. The hair is lighter in AOU so I like that, Thanks for the video 😊💎
Aside from the hair colour and mouth i think the dark world thor has a better headsculpt. Maybe because we can see his eyes better. The likeness is stronger to me than the other one but might be because im not seeing it in real life. And the costume is better too. The gold makes more sense with how asgard is portrayed. And also because the chainmail was already silver, the gold actually worked.
You are so right about the metal hammers. Yeah, they look and feel more premium when they're metal, but the figures can't hold them! Lol, I'm not saying people are wrong for wanting them because they do feel really cool, I'm just saying they severely limit possibility. This figure suffered especially because he had the rubber armor overlay that already limited mobility to basically just holding his hammer high. Except...the metal hammer makes that really hard haha. Did Hot Toys start doing plastic Mjolnirs? I have Thor 2011 version, the two Dark World versions, and Infinity war with Stormbreaker. I'll have to look and see if I can piece a non-metal Mjolnir from ebay once I figure out which version came with one.
This is awesome, haven't gotten to watch yet but does shipping take a while from Toyswonderland rn because of covid? My alita and Infinity war thor said the would be here last week but are not yet.
@@JustinsCollection I see, I live in the US in Arizona and my girlfriend is getting kinda upset with them because we ordered a bunch of figures together and her patients is thin so I have to make stuff up alot on why they take awhile lol.
You plan on doing a retro review of Ultron ? If you buying another one from toys wonderland then wait for me to buy mine first in case the price goes up 😂
I'll have to go back and watch The Dark World again, but his hair looks grey instead of blonde on the figure...but the figure itself is still looks great.
He's clearly got a great deal going on with Toyswonderland, no way someone could afford to actually spend thousands of dollars on geek chic week in and week out even with a "full time" job. Not to mention the issue of all the space all this stuff would take up. The stuff he is keeping he probably gets for free or at a massive discount for driving traffic to TW, and the stuff he isn't keeping likely gets sent back to TW.
I do get a discount but I still pay for everything. Space is always an issue but I work in corporate sales, don’t drink, don’t do drugs and choose to spend my funds on toys. I also make some back on TH-cam. I also keep everything I review. So yeah.
Justin, please, on your next collection video tour, make it as traditional (a “video video”). The last one looked like a powerpoint presentation 🤣 Cheers!
This is my definitive Thor. A very classic look that highlights Thor in a more traditional fashion.
Nice!

Thor: A Dark World wasn’t that bad, I liked it, they should’ve made Hot Toys of Jane and Malekith from that movie.

I also like the open-mouth expression, it gives him a bit of playfulness, which Chris Hemsworth's performance beautifully captures as well.
