Yyeeesss, you made the video! Detour, thank you for taking the time to make two of the most helpful videos I've ever had access to as an artist. Thank you for continuing to spread knowledge, and help all grow together.
Definitely start it. Sales tax isn't as difficult as it seems. as long as you start collecting and paying the local gov should be OK with you. but most times they don't check. its just good to do it in case of an audit.
Super impressed with the information here. I have 2 small side business, one sells physical goods (hot sauce!) and the other is custom software, both in Washington state. This is basically identical to how sales tax works here as well!
Thanks. its something that i think we all should be aware of because its something that can be a big hit if you get audited. a friend got audited and that's what got me to become organized. I was a lot at first but once i started making sure i was organized with my taxes everything runs smoothly.
I do a service, my commissions are digital art works, client asks for me to create a logo for their business or posters for a band question is do I have to put sales tax in the invoice box when sending it to clients?
If it's a business service it's non taxable. So a design project that has a digital asset file is still a service, but if the client asked you to do a hand painted version they can frame to hang in the office or a dimensional sculpture they can gift to others that would be taxable.

Helpful. This is the topic that gives me some pause with starting a small art business. I guess it doesn't have to be intimidating.

Are murals tangible items or a service?
I put them down as a service.
