  • www.footankle.com/orthotics-fl... People with flat feet tend to need orthotics more than most but often have a difficult time finding comfortable orthotics. Dr. Larry Huppin is a Seattle podiatrist who specializes in orthotic therapy and discusses here how orthotics should be made to work most effectively for people with flat feet.
Those with flat feet are more often to find orthotics uncomfortable. Often this is due to the edge of the orthotic digging into the arch of the foot. Dr. Huppin discusses how to avoid this and how to ensure that orthotics for those with flat feet are both comfortable and effective.
If you are in the Seattle area and have flat feet, make an appointment to see Dr. Huppin for a consultation. We are located at 600 Broadway, Suite 220, Seattle, WA 98122 and you can call us at 206-344-3808. Appointments can be made from our website at www.footankle.com/.

I have flat feet and overpronate. I hope custom shoe inserts can help with my plantar faciitis and join health.
At the moment I’m doing heel raises, calf stretches, and consider adding more physiotherapy exercises. I’m also considering getting regular deep tissue massage sessions if I can manage to afford it.
However, I assume that both exercises, stretches, and massage to some extent changes one’s feet’s position, so how does one go about getting inserts?

At some point in the future, I will not be getting massages nor do exercises or stretches anymore - would the inserts then not be useless or even potentially make things worse, because they then don’t fit one’s feet anymore now that the positions of the feet have gone back to what they normally are without exercise, stretches, and massage?

Exercises, stretching and massage do not change one's foot position. Foot position is determined by skeletal structure.

@@Footankle Thank you so much for clarifying that, because I have come across exercises that are supposedly able to lessen one's degree of flat feet and/or overpronation.

Are there any OTC orthotics wide enough to help people with flat feet (collapsed arches) so the foot doesn't come down on the edge of the insole? Does Powerstep make any? The Powerstep Wide insole is only wider in the forefoot, not in the medial to the back part of the foot. I would really like to find an OTC wide insole for flat feet since my insurance won't pay for custom orthotics. I hope you can recommend one. Thanks very much.

Not sure what your question refers to. Are you asking about a permanent solution for flat feet? If so, here is some information:
