N. I am new to running. Im 7 weeks into it presently. I am 46 years old. I began at about 43 pounds overweight at 208lbs. I am now at 186lbs which is about 21 pounds over my ideal weight. I have my first ever 5K coming up in a week. I can only run the 5K in 29 minutes but I have seen constant tiny improvements as I began with 12 minute miles. At my age I have been careful not to overexert myself but I feel that I am almost ready to push harder. My heart rate is good during and after my runs. Normally in the 130-140`s during my runs when heading uphill. My breathing returns to normal within 15-20 seconds after my runs. With this information can you give me an idea as to what I should do to make greater improvements? And give me a general idea as to how I can safely push harder?

I love this video!! I have been following you guys for a while now and your videos never fails to help me. Currently training to run a 5k under 20 minutes and my time is getting better with effort and time. Thank you so much for your videos!! Also, I am planning to run my first half marathon by the end of this year so your channel is very useful to me! :)
Very useful subject especially as a Parkinson’s suffer my arms don’t move and I have a stuttering stride the exercises will help to reduce the effects hopefully thanks very much!
excellent video. Do you have any advice for a middle aged runner. I am averaging 32 minute 5k pace and would like to get to around 26 minute 5k pace. I also work 70 hours a week so energy level is an issue. Any feedback would be great, thanks
Running Trucker hey there! I'd suggest making the workouts you do get in more valuable by adding some strength and mobility work. Check out some of our workouts on circuit training and speed work for workouts that are effective in making you faster, without requiring hours and hours of your time. Just stay on top of making your workouts happen consistently and you'll see results!
Whenever I’m at practice I run decent but at a meet I just zone out just go for it. I just go blank and I run way faster than I think I can run. My times went from 29.59 to 21:33 I’m about 2 months of training
Joan Lopez Keep running. I dont have asthma but I know how it sucks, and always have an inhaler with you when you run though. And running helps with being very stressed.
Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "how do we run fast" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ralebney Running Recoilless - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.
You said focus and pay attention to the bouncing around in the shoulders when doing the 20 meters drill with hands out froward and clapped together. What does this mean for shoulder placement in running at fast speeds in long distance?
This was an eye opener to me, about mechanics, Thanks so much. I will try this. I like the 3,6,,9,10 mix too for the physiology ( 10X400 at 5k pace but those are just a little faster?) The rest period are lite jogs or do you walk?
Hello, my name is Taaj. I’m a amateur sprinter. I wondering if endurance running helps with sprinting. A lot of folks say no but I have a hard time believing that because I ran XC in 2016. I was able to jog a 24 200m and sprint 100m recording a time of 11.3. I haven’t reached that time since. 11.43 100m is my best time with no endurance training. I feel that endurance training would help me reach a 11.0 100m. So to help prove my theory, would you attempt to run 100m. I feel that advanced distance runners could sprint the 100m and record a time of 11.0 or faster
I was wondering I’m a 16 year old male runner who started about a month ago I I have been doing about 3 miles day, at about a 12 min mile and can’t seem to improve that time any tips?
been running for a while. what is your advise for elbow cramps. i tend to need to start punching the air to loosen and stretch out my elbows. ill be entering the Air Force on the 25th and i want to be able to impress all the way.
Maybe someone can relate to this, and give some advice or feedback. I am 54 years old, getting back to running, but now I find that instead of being able to run further, I feel heavy in the legs. I am not obese, only slightly overweight, about 5-7 lbs. I don't feel tired necessarily, but have no energy and feel, well, just plain heavy-legged. Any idea what I am experiencing? I have tried upping the carbs, but this didn't seem to make a difference.
I really need to get prepared, I plan on joining the Army and I really want to get in. I need to pass the fitness test. In terms of running, I need to run 2km (1.2 Miles) in under 10 minutes and 45 seconds. How do I do this.
I leave for navy boot camp and I can only run 1 mile for burly under 10 minutes. I need to run 1.5 miles in under 12 and I leave august 9th. Any advice plz
I am a 16 yr old boy , i ran 6.8 km for the first time and it took me 30 minutes,i didn't got tired but my legs gave up and i also get pain in my lower calf when i run ,how can i fix it?
I'm 250lbs what would be a good routine to get my run time faster... I'm averaging a 21 minute 2 miles at the moment. Please help. And how many times a week should I run...???? Please help
I’m 12 and I’m thinking of changing to distance because I’ve never been very good at sprints like terrible. My 100 was 17 sec. 💀💀 but that might’ve been because that’s when my knee was sore for the whole season but idk. Any tips on switching for short to long distance??
It depends on what distance you are aiming to compete at really. But generally middle to long distance athletes have to build up their base fitness levels over time (especially off season) with different lengths of distance sessions. These are at a slow, medium and hard pace. For example, you do a hard 5km run at 90% intensity on Saturday and a slow 10-15km run at 50% intensity on a Sunday. Various interval training can be added to this later as your base aerobic/anaerobic fitness increases. Hope this helps.
Any breathing tips you can give me? My track coach says to breathe in with my mouth opening on exhale closed during inhale. but my soccer coach says mouth closed whole time.
I have a few questions, one is, can I share this with my coach, another one is I have done 26 half marathons, and am trying to complete a half marathon in all 50 states, as well as trying to complete 100 half marathons, also, I am getting ready for my first full marathon, and was wondering is, who would be the best person to help me with all of these exercises
At 5:23 he mentions we will do 10/400 meter “efforts “ which 400m and is equivalent to going around the track once a number of 10 times with rests in-between. On the third (3), sixth (6), ninth (9) and tenth (10) loop of doing effort, we go a faster on those. Thanks to your question I found a handy "10k guide." If my pace is normally 14 minutes and 23 second mile but want to achieve a 13 minutes and 55 second mile in a 10k race, this guide tells us how to get there www.runnersworld.com/advanced/a20825846/the-best-10k-workout/ Let's do it!
I’m 12 and I’m in cross country and my time is 6:34 and I am wanting to improve that so that I can become a better runner and I want to critique anything I’m doing wrong.
Hello coaches. While out running the other morning and reflecting on the show it came to me to suggest that you consider adding a nutritionist coach and a medical coach to the show. Just chew on the thought for a while. Thanks for great program.
My question is: I have a chest injury from combat and it effects my running. I build my runs up slowly especially after winter, and add wind sprints. What can I do to build my lungs so I can increase my distance and pace?
Hi - I ran in a local Half Marathon yesterday, I was running very strongly till mile 8, good pace also.I started to tire from mile 9 and between mile 11- 13 I was suffering with severe, fierce cramps in my calf and hamstring. This has happened to me before during the last 2 years.I did drink at the station on route, warmed up beforehand and stretched - any ideas ?

I love this video!! I have been following you guys for a while now and your videos never fails to help me. Currently training to run a 5k under 20 minutes and my time is getting better with effort and time. Thank you so much for your videos!! Also, I am planning to run my first half marathon by the end of this year so your channel is very useful to me! :)
Yo Harry kane thanks for the tip!

Thank you for teaching me! I’m a MS long distance runner, I’ll try my best.
Very useful subject especially as a Parkinson’s suffer my arms don’t move and I have a stuttering stride the exercises will help to reduce the effects hopefully thanks very much!
That's awesome to hear!
excellent video. Do you have any advice for a middle aged runner. I am averaging 32 minute 5k pace and would like to get to around 26 minute 5k pace. I also work 70 hours a week so energy level is an issue. Any feedback would be great, thanks

Plyometrics can help , plenty on TH-cam
Wake up early. Run before work.
I have northland cross country today and I’m watching this on my bus 😂 wish me luck 👍

Whenever I’m at practice I run decent but at a meet I just zone out just go for it. I just go blank and I run way faster than I think I can run. My times went from 29.59 to 21:33 I’m about 2 months of training
Yemyz 3 miler?

Damn that’s quicker progress than me but I’ve been running for 7 years now I can do the 5k in 14:44!
I now run a 6:10 mile and 7:12 mile for 5ks :D
Nice what about now
I’m just watching this since all the slow kids are catching up to me.😂😂 it’s time to put in work💯💯😡😡
Put in that work, and keep em in the dust
Im doing the same thing 😂
BRUHHH SAMEEEE
i dont understand the part where you mentioned about run three, six, nine and ten faster. can you explain in details on these?
For the 10 x 400m runs. The 3rd, 6th, 9th and 10th run are run at a quicker pace than the other runs.
Ha ha, I just realized I've replied to comment that is 8 months old and probably forgotten about.
I didn't understand what you meant by 3 6 9 and 10. and to spike it.... is that the speed or the distance?
I’m trying to be prepared for basketball season and I didn’t make the team last year but I’m determined to do it this year
Awesome! I will surely try those exercises!
I do cross country im in 6th grade but I got asthma but I’m not going to give up 😪😪😅🙃
Joan Lopez Keep running. I dont have asthma but I know how it sucks, and always have an inhaler with you when you run though. And running helps with being very stressed.
Joan Lopez ahhhh my cross country is today and I’m so scaared
Joan Lopez I have asthma and xc has helped me out a lot
I run all the time, but this channel has helped my fine details. Can you show things to help your run on treadmills, During those snowy days.
Tim Sullivan perfect timing! We've got some tread videos coming this week!
Best running channel
So glad to have you on here as a viewer!
They are really good!
Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "how do we run fast" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ralebney Running Recoilless - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my colleague got amazing results with it.
yup yup!!!!!!!
How is it going now
You ROCK Nate👊👊Thank•You TRE. Your visuals are super helpful to see what I can improve on, yesss!! Cheers to longer efficient kickass runs💡💣💥
been running for a while. what is your advise for elbow cramps. i tend to need to start punching the air to loosen and stretch out my elbows. ill be entering the Air Force on the 25th and i want to be able to impress all the way.
thank you for this tip!! I will implementing it in tomorrow's run!!
I suck at running trying to get prepared for the navy I always finish close to last and my mile and a half is 13:40 but I want it to be at 11:00
Maybe someone can relate to this, and give some advice or feedback.
Great video, thanks for the wisdom champ :)
Love this video. Did this type of workout yesterday. I’m wondering what race in California you would recommend for a half 2018
I am a 16 yr old boy , i ran 6.8 km for the first time and it took me 30 minutes,i didn't got tired but my legs gave up and i also get pain in my lower calf when i run ,how can i fix it?

Short? WTF. Too much talking not enough showing.
I'm 250lbs what would be a good routine to get my run time faster... I'm averaging a 21 minute 2 miles at the moment. Please help. And how many times a week should I run...???? Please help
Today is field day for my school, and I’m running around my soccer field
lol im here cause im a freshman and cross country starts soon and im terrified. and i just got done crying because im slow lol
Me LFKAOAAO I was crying because I was so mad I couldn’t run a 2.9 mile
My track coach says to breathe in with my mouth opening on exhale closed during inhale. but my soccer coach says mouth closed whole time.
when running long distance
SRLA 👊 26.2 miles lets goo
I have a few questions, one is, can I share this with my coach, another one is I have done 26 half marathons, and am trying to complete a half marathon in all 50 states, as well as trying to complete 100 half marathons, also, I am getting ready for my first full marathon, and was wondering is, who would be the best person to help me with all of these exercises
What did he mean when he’s talking about the 3 6 9 10 stuff? Pls I’d love to know!
At 5:23 he mentions we will do 10/400 meter “efforts “ which 400m and is equivalent to going around the track once a number of 10 times with rests in-between. On the third (3), sixth (6), ninth (9) and tenth (10) loop of doing effort, we go a faster on those.
Thanks to your question I found a handy "10k guide." If my pace is normally 14 minutes and 23 second mile but want to achieve a 13 minutes and 55 second mile in a 10k race, this guide tells us how to get there www.runnersworld.com/advanced/a20825846/the-best-10k-workout/
Let's do it!
Awesome Thanks for the tips! GOD BLESS You ALL
I have a track meet at my school soon. Might be in the 800m. Wish me luck! (im gonna need it TwT)

That 400m exercise sounds like a good idea, I'll try it sometime
I’m 12 and I’m in cross country and my time is 6:34 and I am wanting to improve that so that I can become a better runner and I want to critique anything I’m doing wrong.
Way to go! Keep up the hard work and determination!
Hello coaches. While out running the other morning and reflecting on the show it came to me to suggest that you consider adding a nutritionist coach and a medical coach to the show. Just chew on the thought for a while. Thanks for great program.
Hey there! We actually do have sports nutritionist- Coach Elizabeth! Search "nutrition" on our channel to find all of her videos :)
My question is: I have a chest injury from combat and it effects my running. I build my runs up slowly especially after winter, and add wind sprints. What can I do to build my lungs so I can increase my distance and pace?
Check out some good videos we have on here about breathing! They should help :) th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=breathing+the+run+experience

Totally normal. Give this video a look to help iron out those kinks before next time: th-cam.com/video/vTdh69qma9M/w-d-xo.html
